Energy efficient HVAC and water systems, appliances and windows minimize your footprint. Durable flooring offers stability and longevity, and hand trowel-finished drywall with reclaimed wood accents provide a warm background for your life. The open floor plan lends itself to entertaining, and the views of the Front Range through the pines are enticing. These same spaces also feel private and individual. Whether training in the home gym for your next marathon, building your dream canoe in the garage, or relaxing while you listen to the crackle of a fire in your fireplace accented by those hand-hewn beams, Thurston House is a stunning place to call home.

This image shows the spacious and well-lit home gym, designed with a focus on natural light and an expansive view. The room features wide-plank, wood-style flooring that is both durable and visually warm. The space is filled with light from a large, multi-pane window with black frames, which overlooks a serene lake and the surrounding natural landscape. Additionally, a large sliding glass door, also with black frames, provides a direct connection to the outdoor patio and pool area. The walls are painted a clean white, and the high ceiling has recessed lighting and two modern ceiling fans with black blades. The minimalist design and the focus on the view create a serene and motivating environment for exercise.

Carruthers Landscaping worked with these homeowners to re-create their outdoor living space. Through design and build, they specified a 10’x10’ manual retractable canopy for their pergola in the Sunbrella motive denim fabric. Lattice walls were installed to define the space and give additional privacy.

One look at this remodel and you will see that opening up the interior living space to the spectacular backyard views was a simple decision at this home. With the addition of a La Cantina bi-fold door, this newly combined indoor/outdoor entertaining space has been transformed into the essence of breathtaking modern serenity.
The moment you step outside, you are welcomed by an entertainer’s dream space. The new BBQ bar is wrapped in Mangaris hardwood. Topped in Dekton countertops, which takes its inspiration from elegant Italian marble, the white and grey Opera surface provides the perfect seating, serving and gathering area to toast the chef! The under-counter storage cabinets, drawers and beverage refrigerator keep all the accessories close at hand.
The main motivation for this makeover was a dated patio that was failing and obsolete second story deck that had long since lost its luster. This re-fresh starts from the ground up where old concrete decking is replaced with new concrete pads and grass joints that create a soothing pattern to meet the pool and newly defined landscaping.
The upper deck provides the perfect patio cover and now features a Mangaris premium hardwood ceiling with fans, inset heaters and lighting. This richly-toned ceiling coordinates beautifully with the bbq bar. The serene protected patio lounge seating area is now the perfect gathering spot for after-dinner aperitifs or late night movie night.
The oversized patio table and bold woven seating offers a comfortable space to watch magnificent SoCal sunsets beyond the glass-like surface of the infinity pool or relax and enjoy an intimate conversation by the warmth of the backyard firepit.
To complete the remodel, the modern and sleek upper deck railing now tops this new breathtaking outdoor living space. This backyard’s modern serenity is designed to fully enjoy the surrounding nature and magnificent views.

Facts About ButterfliesDifferent Types Of Butterflies And Butterfly Facts
Natural butterfly habitats have been destroyed or affected by construction of housing and shopping developments, as well as by the use of pesticides and other chemicals. You can provide a suitable butterfly habitat that will help fortify the butterfly population, and as an added bonus, the habitat will bring you enjoyment in watching beautiful butterflies in your yard.
The butterfly habitat should be relatively sunny (5-6 hours per day) and out of the wind. Butterflies can get their required nutrients and minerals from a mud puddle in a sunny area. A successful butterfly habitat will contain the plants favored by both caterpillars and butterflies. This means that you should include plants like Queen Anne’s Lace, violets, marigolds, and maybe even milkweed for the caterpillars to eat, since they are able to chew their food. In particular, monarch caterpillars eat milkweed because it makes them an unpleasant-tasting meal to predators. For the butterflies, which are able to suck and are unable to chew, you should include nectar plants with different colors of flowers, such as zinnias, lilacs, and the butterfly bush.
Butterfly habitats should last all summer, meaning that you should select plants that bloom at different times so that something is always blooming. You might be able to take inspiration in your planting selections from a butterfly garden or inside a butterfly house if you are lucky to live close enough to one of these carefully planned attractions. Often, landscapers and nursery employees will be able to advise you as to what possible additions to your butterfly habitat will grow well in your area.

What is an ADU: Accessory Dwelling Units:
An accessory dwelling unit, usually just called an ADU, is a secondary housing unit on a single-family residential lot. The term “accessory dwelling unit” is a institutional-sounding name, but it’s the most commonly-used term across the country to describe this type of housing. While the full name is a mouthful, the shorthand “ADU” is better.
ADUs vary in their physical form quite a bit, as there are detached ADU, attached ADU, second story ADU (above garage or work shop), addition ADU, internal ADU.
IMPORTANT:
There’s simply too few permitted ADUs to make a real difference in the housing stock. But, even if they aren’t going to solve all a city’s problems, they may help homeowners solve some of their problems. The most common motivation for ADU development is rental income potential, followed by the prospect of flexible living space for multigenerational households.
We at FIDELITY GENERAL CONTRACTORS, providing a single point of contact to homeowners interested in this product, from conceptual stage including plans, city legwork, project managing of the construction stage including assistance with material purchase and other coordination, all the way to completion.

This 1926 Tudor home has been well maintained throughout the years and while the kitchen had been updated by a previous owner, the current owner knew the kitchen could become even better. Knowing her desires (which include: more storage, fun color, space to display art, durability, versatility and a space designed with the motive to invite people in), the brainstorming began. During brainstorming, an addition of a small, back entry was considered. Though this would accomplish many benefits it was decided that with careful planning great improvements could be made while staying within the original footprint.
All in all, many of the original cabinets were kept, matched and added to. A new range was installed on the opposite wall to allow for a large pantry in its original location. New floating shelving and a curved countertop integrates into the South/east corner which best utilizes the short wall, tight to the window. This curved countertop also allows for a perching spot for the owner’s morning coffee and/or guests to hangout and visit. Now that the remodel is complete, the kitchen better reflects the owners purposeful, hospitable, well-made, fun, colorful, artistic and caring personality!

Columbus Design-Build, Kitchen & Bath Remodeling, Historic Renovations

Entertaining and bringing people together is what this family is all about. Birthdays involve amazing cakes like you see on those TV shows, and groups of 30 people or more. Their ideal kitchen needed to accommodate that level of baking and hosting, but also support the daily rhythms of life.
Our collaborative design was guided by Vastu Shastra, an ancient architectural tradition that predates feng shui. Based on Vedic traditions that harmonize human behavior with natural forces in the world, Vastu Shanstra basically suggests how to inhabit a place in the best way possible.
The objectives were:
-Relocate the entire kitchen so the home’s heat source (oven) is in the southeast
-Incorporate symmetry into the overall design
-Create a large space for entertaining – open and airy with lots of light
-Simultaneously separate but join cooking and gathering spaces, allowing the cook to have a cook-specific zone that is still a part of any gathering
-Individual storage for small appliances – making them easier to use
-Simplicity – the space should be easy to use and maintain
Design challenges we solved for:
-Incorporate three load bearing points of the house
-Provide structural support that was not obvious
-Reconfigure kitchen utilities to another part of the home
-Maximize storage space
Design solutions and mindful innovations became an exciting motivation that drove the project:
-Double-horseshoe design features two symmetrical islands that seat 18 people comfortably
-Downdraft ventilation behind rangetop allows unobstructed views
-Overhead beams for structural support
-Equip nearby dining room with locking bar and wine cabinet
-Roll-out appliance shelves on back of cooking island are powered for easy use
-Symmetrical fridge and freezer columns separated by oven
-Cabinets along back of the cooking area for everyday items
-Tall pantry cabinet has four drawers for paperwork
-Spacious walk-in storage pantry has a counter with power outlets
-Coffee station has a trash can directly below for easy clean up
-Two sinks and dishwashers for easy cleanup
“A lot of relationships are built over food,” the homeowner told us. “This [kitchen] keeps our family close because we all love food. My kids sit in the kitchen all evening long every day – and I’m right there cooking. That’s life –to be together.”
We also collaborated with the homeowners to remodel their primary bathroom, primary bedroom closet and an additional bathroom.
