This mid-century remodel is comprised of four bedrooms and a backyard addition that functions as both a guest suite and home office. Influenced by its site on a large hilltop, additional windows were introduced to showcase views of the landscape and add natural light throughout the interior. Further filling interior spaces with natural light, skylights and transom windows have also been added.
The material palette consists of open grained cypress ceilings, rift white oak millwork, old growth walnut floors and painted brick. This variety of woods and textures is toned down with the simplicity of warm white walls. To complement the home’s fusion of contemporary and mid-century architecture, the interior features a range of soft modern furnishings.

During construction the neighboring house to the east was demolished, a lovely mature bosque destroyed and the property aggressively graded in order to build a stock plan mac-mansion. This image reflects part of the installation a new east property-line bosque comprised of fast-growth and native evergreens on our owner's site. Interestingly, the tallest trees were purchased at a substantial discount as they had "aged" out of the nursery's inventory and were scheduled to be destroyed.

Create a vertical garden tapestry attractive to butterflies and bees and hummingbirds. A Passion Vine weaves around two Ina Wall Trellises by Terra Trellis. Train ornamental or edible plants and create a living work of art. Welded brackets stand out 4" from wall allowing vine to weave through trellis.

Doing the necessary up-keep on this sweet, little Cottage Garden.
It's quite easy for a garden to grow out of control and become unmanageable.
Quarterly Maintenance visits are a great way to maintain your beautiful yard and stay on top of all the growth and pruning requirements your garden needs throughout the year.

:: getaway house
The site's natural surroundings served as inspiration for the design and general material selection. In order to keep an elementary colour scheme and emphasise the vivid hues of the site's native flora, neutral interior finishes are used. The simple and rudimentary palette of wood, metal and concrete is applied to the exterior and interior. Window openings are positioned to maximise natural daylighting.
The exterior, finished in natural cedar will develop a silvery patina, blurring the boundaries between the residence and the surrounding mature tree growth.
The getaway house celebrates contemporary architectural forms and detail without abridging the basic pleasures of cottage life.
Subsumed beneath a desire to create an elegant retreat, its architecture encapsulates all of the living experience that draws on the delights of recharging and relaxing in the countryside.

This new 6400 s.f. two-story split-level home lifts upward and orients toward unobstructed views of Windy Hill. The deep overhanging flat roof design with a stepped fascia preserves the classic modern lines of the building while incorporating a Zero-Net Energy photovoltaic panel system. From start to finish, the construction is uniformly energy efficient and follows California Build It Green guidelines. Many sustainable finish materials are used on both the interior and exterior, including recycled old growth cedar and pre-fabricated concrete panel siding.
