Embarking on the design journey of Wabi Sabi Refuge, I immersed myself in the profound quest for tranquility and harmony. This project became a testament to the pursuit of a tranquil haven that stirs a deep sense of calm within. Guided by the essence of wabi-sabi, my intention was to curate Wabi Sabi Refuge as a sacred space that nurtures an ethereal atmosphere, summoning a sincere connection with the surrounding world. Deliberate choices of muted hues and minimalist elements foster an environment of uncluttered serenity, encouraging introspection and contemplation. Embracing the innate imperfections and distinctive qualities of the carefully selected materials and objects added an exquisite touch of organic allure, instilling an authentic reverence for the beauty inherent in nature's creations. Wabi Sabi Refuge serves as a sanctuary, an evocative invitation for visitors to embrace the sublime simplicity, find solace in the imperfect, and uncover the profound and tranquil beauty that wabi-sabi unveils.

A well-designed library brings beautiful organization to books and keepsakes, balancing the needs of both storage and style for a serene space.
Our January Design of the Month does just that. Cheryl Mingone, the designer of this unique and awe-inducing creation, knew that her client wanted something special to hold and display mementos and books. Cheryl took the client’s needs and wants and tailored an organized and comfortable space that reflects and nurtures her client’s passions, while also creating a one-of-a-kind library that cannot be found anywhere else.

The goal for this light filled finished attic was to create a play space where two young boys could nurture and develop their creative and imaginative selves. A neutral tone was selected for the walls as a foundation for the bright pops of color added in furnishings, area rug and accessories throughout the room. We took advantage of the room’s interesting angles and created a custom chalk board that followed the lines of the ceiling. Magnetic circles from Land of Nod add a playful pop of color and perfect spot for magnetic wall play. A ‘Space Room’ behind the bike print fabric curtain is a favorite hideaway with a glow in the dark star filled ceiling and a custom litebrite wall. Custom Lego baseplate removable wall boards were designed and built to create a Flexible Lego Wall. The family was interested in the concept of a Lego wall but wanted to keep the space flexible for the future. The boards (designed by Jennifer Gardner Design) can be moved to the floor for Lego play and then easily hung back on the wall with a cleat system to display their 3-dimensional Lego creations! This room was great fun to design and we hope it will provide creative and imaginative play inspiration in the years to come!

Craft rooms are creative sanctuaries designed to inspire and facilitate artistic endeavors. These spaces are dedicated to nurturing hobbies like crafting, sewing, painting, and other DIY projects.
Craft rooms typically feature ample storage with organized bins, shelves, and drawers for materials, ensuring a clutter-free and efficient workspace.
A well-lit environment is crucial, often achieved with task lighting or natural light to enhance visibility during detailed work. Customized workstations, such as spacious tables and comfortable seating, provide the ideal setting for creative exploration.
Craft rooms are not just about functionality; they're a haven for self-expression, where individuals can let their imagination run wild and turn ideas into tangible works of art.

The goal in this Show House Library was to create a haven that is both nurturing from an aesthetic view and from a healthy perspective. My goal when designing a space is to create a feeling of tranquility, serenity and peace. As you walk into your home, you want to feel a sense of calm, inner peace and contentment. You have come home to your sanctuary, your place of refuge. Home is a place that fortifies your soul and helps you go out into the world and excel. It should nurture you both in how it makes you feel emotionally and how healthy it is for your physical body. I have a passion for eco-friendly design that is both sustainable for the earth and healthy for the inhabitants. I was so excited when I found the Kravet Green Collection. The reason I chose these particular Kravet fabrics for the ottoman and pillows in the Show House was to demonstrate to people that Green fabrics have come so far in the past five years. It is wonderful that Kravet has introduced a collection of eco-friendly fabrics that are vibrant and fresh. The commitment of Home in Harmony is to connect the beauty of our client’s interiors with the beauty of the outside world that sustains us. Kravet creates beautiful fabrics that allow designers to accomplish this mission.

Designers gave the house a wood-and-steel façade that blends traditional and industrial elements. This home’s noteworthy steel shipping container construction material, offers a streamlined aesthetic and industrial vibe, with sustainable attributes and strength. Recycled shipping containers are fireproof, impervious to water and stronger than traditional building materials. Inside, muscular concrete walls, burnished cedar beams and custom oak cabinetry give the living spaces definition, decorative might, and storage and seating options.

THE GATHERING - Sunroom | Canal Corkran, Rehoboth Beach, DE
This luxury beach house was designed to bring together and nurture family. Celebrated in each of these glass orbs are the family’s children, reflecting their favorite colors, hobbies and passions.

Influenced by artist clients and their extensive travels, this residence creates an immersive inner world. Behind a monolith wall lies a series of courtyards and outdoor spaces, carefully composed to nurture both human connection and introspective retreat.
The intentional removal of the surrounding context of its busy beach town, creates a private oasis of arched niches, quiet nooks, and winding corridors. With its fluidity of design and diversity of space, it is a home worthy of exploration.

Needless to say, this kitchen is a cook’s dream. With an oversized peninsula, there is plenty of space to create tasteful confections. They added another element of interest to their design by mitering the edges of their countertop, creating the look of a thicker slab and adding a nice focal point to the space. Pulling the whole look together, they complemented the sea pearl quartzite countertop beautifully with the use of grey subway tile.

The project began with the owner’s vision to create on their Atherton property a new home, reminiscent of the Mediterranean villas and gardens they loved to visit on European holidays. They wanted to create an oasis, a home that would nurture their creativity and foster a feeling of calm.
The design creates this sense of transition right as you enter the property, through a long, tree-lined driveway, thru a custom gate and into a gracious entry court. Walking through a formal entry garden, you arrive at a round entry tower, completing the transition from street to home. Separated into three primary zones, the main bedroom wing is a two-story volume anchoring one side of the center Living / Dining spaces, while the 2-story Library and Kitchen / Family Room anchor the other. All of the primary public spaces in the home are oriented toward the rear garden.
The home features 5,500 square feet of living space, a 3-car garage, a separate guest suite and private master sauna pavilion. Solar power, battery back-up, integrated building controls and on-site water storage are a few of the technical systems installed.

The daughter's bedroom mostly lies outside of the Bagua. By placing her desk, topped by a round mirror, along the line of the bedroom that is INSIDE of the Bagua, we are giving her a grounding that allows her to "see" herself positioned INSIDE of her family, while allowing her the "wings" of independent flight. When she works at her desk, she will still feel the strength of the family structure supporting her. The bold purple colorway supports and nurtures her "fire" nature.

This Tiny Home has a unique shower structure that points out over the tongue of the tiny house trailer. This provides much more room to the entire bathroom and centers the beautiful shower so that it is what you see looking through the bathroom door. The gorgeous blue tile is hit with natural sunlight from above allowed in to nurture the ferns by way of clear roofing. Yes, there is a skylight in the shower and plants making this shower conveniently located in your bathroom feel like an outdoor shower. It has a large rounded sliding glass door that lets the space feel open and well lit. There is even a frosted sliding pocket door that also lets light pass back and forth. There are built-in shelves to conserve space making the shower, bathroom, and thus the tiny house, feel larger, open and airy.

Designed to be a legacy and space where great family memories could be created, OBMI completed the master planning, landscape, interior design, and architecture of the holistic residential Longtail House project.
A modern home wrapped in the classic Bermudian style, it’s comprised of 4 bedrooms with in-suite bathrooms including a master suite and a guest apartment. A Great Room combines all family social activity in one space, with an incorporated living room, dining room, and kitchen. Close by is the Library-Music Room, Media Room, Home Office, back of house kitchen support and laundry. Below the Great Room are the Game Room and the wine cellar, which can be observed from above through a glass floor. There is a large garage for vehicles and various sporting items. At the front of the house, overlooking the ocean is the infinity pool, spa, and gardens with endemic shoreline plants.
The previous house on the property site was carefully disassembled and recycled as exemplified by the existing cedar wood floors, which were repurposed as entrance ceilings. Even garden plants were recycled where possible. The biggest challenge was during excavation. With a lot of hard rock present, it took several weeks to cut through. Once the foundation level was achieved, all work went smoothly. The house has a strong emphasis on respecting and nurturing the environment, with igloo nests situated at the edge of the cliffs for Longtail seabirds to repose. The layout was set so as to maximize the best sun orientation for the solar panels and for natural cooling from the offshore breezes to occur.
