Meadowvale Village, an early mill town on the Credit River west of Toronto, was the first designated Heritage District in Ontario. Chris has designed a number of new houses as well as additions / renovations in the Village. This house is among the more substantial house in the village, and has been designed in a formal and traditional manner. It takes generous advantage of its large site with extensive verandas at the ground floor and second floor levels. The house has been used on several occasions as a film set.

Words cannot describe the level of transformation this beautiful 60’s ranch has undergone. The home was blessed with a ton of natural light, however the sectioned rooms made for large awkward spaces without much functionality. By removing the dividing walls and reworking a few key functioning walls, this home is ready to entertain friends and family for all occasions. The large island has dual ovens for serious bake-off competitions accompanied with an inset induction cooktop equipped with a pop-up ventilation system. Plenty of storage surrounds the cooking stations providing large countertop space and seating nook for two. The beautiful natural quartzite is a show stopper throughout with it’s honed finish and serene blue/green hue providing a touch of color. The original master bath and closet was divided into two parts separated by a hallway and door leading to the outside. This created an itty-bitty bathroom and plenty of untapped floor space with potential! By removing the interior walls and bringing the new bathroom space into the bedroom, we created a functional bathroom and walk-in closet space. By reconfiguration the bathroom layout to accommodate a walk-in shower and dual vanity, we took advantage of every square inch and made it functional and beautiful! A pocket door leads into the bathroom suite and a large full-length mirror on a mosaic accent wall greets you upon entering. To the left is a pocket door leading into the walk-in closet, and to the right is the new master bath. A natural marble floor mosaic in a basket weave pattern is warm to the touch thanks to the heating system underneath. Large format white wall tiles with glass mosaic accent in the shower and continues as a wainscot throughout the bathroom providing a modern touch and compliment the classic marble floor. A crisp white double vanity furniture piece completes the space. The journey of the Yosemite project is one we will never forget. Not only were we given the opportunity to transform this beautiful home into a more functional and beautiful space, we were blessed with such amazing clients who were endlessly appreciative of TVL – and for that we are grateful!

This beautiful patio was part of a home remodel that included a family room foyer and den, the purpose of add in this custom french doors with the sidelights exactly the same size as the door, was not only to give a nice open view to the back from the living room as well as allowing a lot of natural light, but this homeowners love to entertain and wanted to have the ability to open both doors or only one side depending on the occasion, we also closed a door that leaded to a bonus room and added a 75” TV with a surround sound system to be able to watch the game a movie or play some music while having a glass of wine watching the sunset, it has 4 cedar post in case homeowners entertain the possibility of adding automatic screens to keep mosquitoes and or to help with heat on those hot summer days. The 40X40 porcelain pavers add a beautiful accent on the floor and provide durability and safety since it is a non slippery surface.

The joining of two families is a joyous occasion! And when you have an existing home in a lovely neighborhood with space to spare, a thoughtful whole house remodel can make the space work for all eight (and one dog). Thompson Remodeling was happy to help improve the family spaces of this 4-bedroom, 3-level home and create new bedrooms and bath spaces to accommodate everyone. This whole house remodel included renovations to every level of the home, most notably on the main floor and the basement. The big kitchen island allows for helpers in the kitchen as well as seating for five! We placed the refrigerator outside of the main cooking area for easy access by the kids. A layered light plan includes natural light from windows and French doors, overhead recessed lights, and pendant lighting for special tasks. In the living room we converted a window seat into a small alcove to accommodate more comfortable seating for TV viewing. The new dining room fits a table and seating for eight. We also updated the mudroom to a locker room with space for each family member. In the basement we created two new bedrooms for the oldest daughters and updated the bathroom. The new space is like a home of its own where the girls can entertain friends and hangout. On the second level, we created a larger bathroom for the kids to share. One wall is dedicated to built-in storage cabinets to house all their towels, toiletries and laundry hampers.

Nearly forty years ago the homeowners installed a "state of the art" kitchen complete with built-in refrigeration and contemporary metal cabinets. The once cutting edge look and function of the space served them well for almost 4 decades, but it grew tired. Our clients came to us wanting a kitchen design that would fit the period of their home while providing all of the modern benefits of a new kitchen. The table and banquet seating that served their growing family well for many years was no longer needed. A functional island was designed with enough comfortable seating for these ‘empty-nesters”, their friends and family. The wife loves to cook and on occasion so does her husband, but his main job is cleaning. The previous layout was cramped, leaving them often in each other’s way. The new wall oven and island allows for substantially more counter space. The island seating works perfectly for dining, socializing or food preparation. The gray painted cabinets on the perimeter provides a wonderful contrast with the ebony stained cherry island and bay cabinets. The elegance of the Wicked White Quartzite counters and backsplash blends beautifully with the cabinetry, while complimenting the original wood flooring which was newly sanded and stained complete with original visible nails. The surfaces are low maintenance for easy clean-up and sanitation. The clients wanted custom, solid-wood cabinetry with natural finishes, for an organic element and visual warmth. The design intent for this space was to create an open, serene Kitchen utilizing a functional layout, quality materials, and organic elements. The area is grounded by dark terrazzo-looking porcelain and uplifted by contrasting light fixtures. We wanted this room to be inviting through a variety of textures and layered lighting, as it is situated at the heart of the home. Additionally, clients wanted to hide certain items in the kitchen, such as electronics, appliances, cookbooks, trash, and recycling. Storage for sheet trays, knifes, spices, cutlery and cooking utensils were required. Open display shelves for collectables from travels and an area for a coffee & smoothie bar were also desired. The island incorporates a hidden charging station for electronics, open shelving for cookbooks, while housing an instant hot and chilled water dispenser at the sink. The cabinetry also has a hidden trash and recycling center, specialty spice and cooking utensil pull-outs, drawers with custom inserts for knifes, cutting boards, cutlery, and tableware. An appliance garage allows room for the stand mixer and toaster to be out of sight, but within reach. A lighted coffee and smoothie bar were planned for the clients’ love of coffee and healthy nutrition. The island and floating shelves are made of oak panels with inlaid brass, adding a subtle touch of sparkle and warmth that highlights gold flecks in the island countertop.
