Alair Homes Edmonton updated the look of the homeowners’ 1980s A-frame, slanted roof home to a modern, contemporary look that emphasized the raw bones and original architecture they loved. Alair Homes also “future-proofed” the home in preparation for the homeowners’ retirement by making it wheelchair accessible. Also, a dog wash was added in the back entry for the couple’s dogs and the granite on the fireplace was a gift from the couple’s father who passed away just prior to the renovation.

This beautiful, 1,600 SF duplex three-bedroom, two-bath apartment in the heart of the West Village was originally a diamond in the rough with great potential. The coop is located on a quiet, tree-lined street and, as a top floor unit, boasts lovely southern and eastern exposures with views of this charming neighborhood overlooking the Hudson. Our clients were making a big move from the West Coast and wanted the new home to be ready in time for the start of the new school year, so Studioteka’s architecture and interior design team rolled up our sleeves and got to work! Construction documents were prepared for the coop board and NYC Department of Buildings approval and our team coordinated the renovation. The entire unit had new hardwood flooring, moldings, and doors installed, the stairs were gently refinished, and we took down a wall separating the living room from a small den on the lower level, making the living space much more open, light-filled, and inviting. The hot water heater was tucked away in an unused space under the stair landing, allowing for the creation of a new kitchen pantry with additional storage. We gut-renovated the upstairs bathroom, creating a built-in shower niche as well as a brand new Duravit tub, Mirabelle high-efficiency toilet, American Standard matte black fixtures, and a white Strasser Woodenworks vanity with black hardware. Classic white subway tile lines the walls and shower enclosure, while black and white basketweave tile is used on the floor. The matte black towel hooks, toilet roll holder, and towel rod contrast with the white wall tile, and a shower curtain with a delicate black and white pattern completes the room. Finally, new mid-century modern furnishings were combined with existing pieces to create an apartment that is both a joy to come home to and a warm, inviting urban oasis for this family of four.

This exterior renovation showcases a complete stucco restoration and repaint for a Spanish-style single-family home in Los Angeles. The project included full surface preparation, stucco repair, crack sealing, and a fresh white finish to enhance durability and curb appeal. Architectural details such as arches, balconies, and exterior walls were carefully preserved to maintain the home’s original Mediterranean character. To spotlight the owners’ worldly decor, this remodel quietly complements the furniture and art textures, colors, and patterns abundant in this beautiful home. The original master bath had a 1980s style in dire need of change. By stealing an adjacent bedroom for the new master closet, the bath transformed into an artistic and spacious space. The jet-black herringbone-patterned floor adds visual interest to highlight the freestanding soaking tub. Schoolhouse-style shell white sconces flank the matching his and her vanities. The new generous master shower features polished nickel dual shower heads and hand shower and is wrapped in Bedrosian Porcelain Manifica Series in Luxe White with satin finish. The kitchen started as dated and isolated. To add flow and more natural light, the wall between the bar and the kitchen was removed, along with exterior windows, which allowed for a complete redesign. The result is a streamlined, open, and light-filled kitchen that flows into the adjacent family room and bar areas – perfect for quiet family nights or entertaining with friends. Crystal Cabinets in white matte sheen with satin brass pulls, and the white matte ceramic backsplash provides a sleek and neutral palette. The newly-designed island features Calacutta Royal Leather Finish quartz and Kohler sink and fixtures. The island cabinets are finished in black sheen to anchor this seating and prep area, featuring round brass pendant fixtures. One end of the island provides the perfect prep and cut area with maple finish butcher block to match the stove hood accents. French White Oak flooring warms the entire area. We recently enjoyed the opportunity to remodel three floors of a nineteenth-century Cambridge home with our project partners, architect Tom Downer and designer Jayme Kennerknecht/LDa Architects. . • The owners – a family of four that includes both a teenager and a toddler - wanted a house better suited to entertaining but also appropriate for family together time. Specific improvements on their wish list included a playroom that could handle differing family needs, a custom bar for entertaining, a new fireplace, and an inviting kitchen that would remain distinct but be better connected to adjoining rooms. • Adding a fireplace to the living room involved rebuilding the entire back wall of the home. The fireplace mantel was custom designed to match an existing mantel in the nearby dining room, which is original to the home. • In the playroom, care was taken to create zones for three members of the family: The mother enjoys crafting and now has a station directly below existing skylights, the teenager has a semi-private nook at the back of the space for relaxing, and the youngest in the family can enjoy toys and games placed along one wall alongside a rug for playing on the floor. On the same level, we created a separate guest bedroom with a new closet and a window designed to match other windows throughout the home. • The kitchen is fully upgraded and custom designed to accommodate the mother’s cooking habits, with specific elements including a farmer’s sink in the island and a stainless steel counter with an integrated sink for food preparation placed behind it on the counter. To improve storage in the much-used room, corner drawer units were installed instead of lazy Susan cabinets. Also, the homeowners were not interested in an open floor plan, but did want to improve access to the living room and yard beyond. This was achieved by expanding the opening between the two rooms allowing the cook to engage with family and guests and have a clear view when children are playing in the yard. This custom wine cellar was designed and built by Vintage Wine Cellars in 2020. We worked 100% remotely with this client to create a beautiful and functional space in unfinished redwood. This wine cellar's wine racking has many versatile features to store different sizes and styles of wines and wine bottles, such as tiered coved trays for large format wine bottles, high reveal display rows, individual bottle storage, Original Wooden Cases, and custom cabinetry. The unique shape and design of this room required a skilled contractor like Vintage Wine Cellars to design and create a completely custom wine cellar - perfectly fit to the shape and flow of the room. This client's room was actually huge - but he just didn't have the need to fill it completely with wine (maybe one day!) The front and rear walls are both fitted with custom racking, divided by open space and a large marble countertop. Welcome to our Perfectly Polished Kitchen. For this Camarillo homeowner, the kitchen no longer fit the way they lived. The original layout felt dated and disconnected, with walls separating the kitchen from the living room and an island oriented toward the backyard. Hosting felt divided, and awkward walkways disrupted the flow of the home. The goal was to create a kitchen centered around connection and everyday functionality. We opened the walls between the kitchen and living room and reoriented the island to face the main living space. By relocating a Blanco farmhouse sink to the island and adding bar seating, the kitchen is now a natural gathering place. Family and guests can stay connected while meals are prepared on a 48-inch range with an integrated griddle. The former range wall was transformed into a dedicated coffee and cocktail bar with a flush integrated MicroDrawer, adding convenience without sacrificing the clean aesthetic. Waterfall-edge quartz countertops, glazed grey blue Bedrosians tile, integrated refrigerator and freezer columns, premium Ferguson plumbing fixtures, and custom cabinetry create a timeless foundation. Warm wood tones from the island, wide-plank oak flooring, and custom rift-cut white oak range hood balance the polished nickel finishes for a look that feels both inviting and refined. The result is a timeless kitchen tailored to this homeowner’s minimalist lifestyle. This repiping project in Tarzana replaced the home's existing water supply lines with a new plumbing system routed throughout the residence. Access to the original piping required opening sections of drywall in multiple wall and ceiling areas before the new lines were installed and pressure tested. With the plumbing work complete, each access opening was patched to restore the affected surfaces and prepare them for finishing. This project involved upgrading an existing sliding door along with completing the surrounding interior wall. The original setup included an unfinished opening and an older installation that required proper preparation before replacement. A new sliding door was installed with attention to alignment, sealing, and structural integration. These back to back bathrooms share a wall (that we added!) to turn one large bathroom into two. A mini ensuite for the owners bedroom, and a family bathroom for the rest of the house to share. Both of these spaces maximize function and family friendly style to suite the original details of this heritage home. We worked with the client to create a complete design package in preparation for their renovation.

In this kitchen, we wanted to tie in the classic black and white palette to the homes character. To do so, the home's original molding details were recreated throughout crown molding and doorways. We incorporated brushed brass and matte black hardware, as well as sand-in-place oak flooring. Our client wanted to continue her tradition of giving her grandchildren weekly gourmet cooking and baking lessons. A paneled refrigerator was designed into the back nook of the kitchen, opening up treasured countertop space for cooking, prepping, and gourmet baked-good preparation. The lowered countertop area create an ideal baking station. To make use of the countertop space, we installed a large 3' galley workstation with dry dock. An elegant gloss black and brass range ties into the classic charm of this 1910's bungalow. The adjacent dining nook is the perfect place for morning coffee and a fresh baked croissant.
