From their experience, these homeowners know that all entertaining never seems to leave the kitchen, so they created their large space to work, dine, and fully entertain. To make this happen, the designer created a smaller working space. Cabinetry was designed using the Whitney II Recessed door style in a combination of Matte Winter Sky on Walnut and Vintage Silver Mist, and a custom range hood found inspiration from the warmth of the walnut coupled with polished stainless accents. Custom contemporary refrigerator panels and armoire molding were outfitted to hide the oversized commercial grade appliances, and give the appearance of furniture, while double mirroring islands provide ample seating for entertaining and working. Hosting was a top priority for our clients, who requested a serving bar with lots of storage and room to sit. To maximize space, we designed a custom U-shaped bar with ample seating. Inside the bar, we made room for lots of appliances, including two refrigerators on each end. The bar wouldn’t be complete without drawer components to hold wine and liquor bottles, so we outfitted the space with all the storage they needed, including an additional serving area that provides even more room.

Located in Sonoma on 2.5 acres with sweeping canyon views, our client's home was built on a long, rectangular lot in 1972. They had owned it for just over ten years and used it for weekend escapes and entertaining. The home burnt down during the 2017 Tubbs fire, and our firm was engaged to design the rebuild. The site did not offer much wiggle room for a new footprint, given the flat bench area that had been graded into a steep hillside when the original subdivision and road were developed. This resulted in a plan that would mostly remain the same; a linear rectangle designed to fit between the driveway and the pool. The primary site strategy move was to change the front entry from the driveway end of the site to the middle of the rectangle, improving the privacy between the master bedroom and public space. We were also able to add a partial second floor to relocate the guest bedrooms from the main level upstairs, thereby enlarging the entertaining spaces to expand graciously to the pool (which remained undamaged). A large pantry and kitchen area were also essential. Fireproof materials include fiber cement board siding and soffits, standing seam metal roofing, and concrete slab porch floors which do not catch embers underneath. The renovated pool was outfitted for fire prevention. The interiors showcase light and distant views and connect seamlessly to the flat areas outside, providing ample space for entertaining year-round and the clients' two springer spaniels. Although this Hinsdale home was only about a decade old, the floor plan and finishes already felt dated. The homeowners expressed that the layout wasn’t working—particularly the disconnect between spaces they used and those they didn’t. O’Brien Harris was originally brought in to renovate the kitchen, but it quickly became clear that a more holistic transformation was needed. The formal dining room, located at the front of the house, had long gone unused. Along with design Brynn Olson, O’Brien Harris reimagined the space as a high-gloss wine lounge that now opens onto the front terrace. The adjacent covered porch was enclosed and converted into a light-filled new dining room, making entertaining and everyday meals more inviting and accessible. O’Brien Harris also fully paneled the great room, adding built-in bookcases and reshaping existing arches to bring depth, warmth, and architectural continuity. The galley-style kitchen is now the heart of the home. Designed for a family that loves to cook and entertain, it features a central island and a secondary wall of storage with floor-to-ceiling cabinetry to house refrigeration, freezer drawers, and extensive dish storage, outfitted with a library ladder. The cabinet finishes are a blend of painted surfaces and light oak, offering warmth without heaviness. Icebox-style strap hinges and latches bring refined vintage character to the space while emphasizing functionality with beauty. In the primary bath, O’Brien Harris introduced painted cabinetry beneath a waterfall stone counter to coordinate with upholstered panels and full marble finishes. His-and-hers vanities and custom stone flooring complete the serene, tailored retreat. This was a deeply transformative project, not only in terms of layout, but in the way the spaces now flow and function together—with O’Brien Harris cabinetry anchoring it all in timeless craftsmanship.

This elegant bar area was designed as an extension of the homes entertaining spaces. Glass-front upper cabinets display beautiful glassware, while the marble mosaic backsplash adds a subtle pattern. A copper bar sink and sleek faucet brings contrast to the space and gives it a modern edge. The home is also equipped with a dedicated EV charging station and solar panels, supporting energy efficiency and modern sustainable living.

For an 1800s farmhouse in the Hudson Valley, I worked collaboratively with my clients bringing together their personal collection of furniture, objects, and antiques from their extensive travels throughout Italy, Spain, Morocco, India, and Greece with eclectic finds I sourced locally. Intent on preserving many of the original architectural elements, we refurbished the working fireplaces and solid wood doors outfitted with hardware from the early 1900s (which had been hand-forged by the blacksmith who had once lived there). Since my clients love to entertain, we added additional rooms suitable for hosting large house parties and updated most of the home's fixtures and fittings. We repainted many of the rooms introducing warm, muted tones of moss, mauve, and hay and custom fabricated much of the furniture. The blue couches in the living room feature a rich navy mohair velvet beside pillows with antique textiles, meanwhile the primary bedroom dons a pink linen bedcover and chunky mohair blanket in a warm citrine.

The kitchen is outfitted with white cabinetry, warm wood trim, and high-end appliances.

We designed this refined executive home office and private library tailored specifically for our client's needs. Featuring floor-to-ceiling cabinetry made of rift cut white oak with a slim shaker profile. Drawers were outfitted for a pull out printer and files and adjustable book shelves wrap around the room.

The homeowner was eager to update her dated kitchen into a modern yet functional space for both entertaining and cooking. The DEANE team worked to deliver a sophisticated, industrial vibe, leveraging unique materials and memorable accessories. The kitchen was outfitted with the full suite of SubZero/Wolf appliances and accessories to create a true chef’s kitchen for this family of six. The 48” range with griddle was a necessity, in addition to a convection oven, steam oven, and warming drawer. The decision was made to dedicate a refrigerator column to beverages with an independent ice maker by the beverage bar. The white powder-coated convex hood is accented with polished stainless steel metal strapping. It is flanked by cabinetry columns with integrated LED lighting on either side, which have been recessed into the wall, projecting slightly to feel like professional displays. Satin stainless steel drawer fronts with polished trim for dramatic effect shine on the lower cabinetry on the cooking wall as well as the display and upper cabinetry on the opposite wall, adding a mix of transitional white cabinetry for warmth and variety. The backsplash is a 2 1/2 x 10 1/2 ceramic tile installed in a contemporary ‘stacked’ pattern, balanced by Calacatta quartz countertops. A finishing touch was to replace wood floors with 2×2 ft porcelain tiles that are warmed by radiant heat.
