Saturday July 18, Time TBD | Boston The Macallen Building and Court Square Press Courtyard by Michael Blier, RLA, ASLA of Landworks Studio, Inc., with architect Nader Tehrani of NADAAA Located in a rapidly evolving area on the outskirts of South Boston, the Macallen Building condominium community features an award-winning landscape that evokes the neighborhood’s industrial heritage while demonstrating modern principles of sustainable development. Awarded LEED Gold certification in 2008, the project’s attention to sustainability permeates all aspects the three-tiered landscape. Paving materials, tree plantings, and lighting adorn an entry-level courtyard on the ground floor, known as “Macallen Way.” The second level landscape covers the roof of the parking garage, providing recreational space for building residents as well as a graphic garden designed to be viewed from the condominiums above. The third level—including a sloping green roof and terrace garden—is integral to the building’s achievement of LEED certification as the green space is specifically designed to improve stormwater management, ameliorate the urban heat island effect, and provide additional insulation to the building. Through use of these design elements, the landscape greatly diminishes the ecological impact of development and serves as a model for sustainable development throughout the evolving region. In addition to the Macallen Building attendees will also get to visit the adjacent Court Square Press Courtyard which won the American Society of Landscape Architect's 2006 Award of Excellence in the General Design category. This project was undertaken as a Project Manager to modernize and expand the amount of income possibilities of this previously run down duplex. The kitchens, and bathrooms were completely torn out and restructed to modern standards and trends. The units were individualized with their own touches i.e. Modern and Distinct fireplaces in each units to be the focal center point. Additional touched such as elegant chandeliers, modern recessed lighting, glass exotic backsplash, and brass distinct hardware throughout made these units appealing to sindle professionals looking for modern eclectic rentals in the desirable outskirts of Downtown Glendale.

We created a modern twist on the rustic Northern New Mexico Style for this home. Located on the outskirts of Santa Fe, there are beautiful archways and architectural details with views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Beauty is rounded out with function, including a great outdoor space for entertaining and a custom home theater with surround sound. Great audio enhancements are included throughout the entire home.

Rift-Sawn White Oak Custom Cabinetry transforms this newly purchased home that had been flipped by DIY owners multiple times. These homeowners downsized from their previous home located on the outskirts of Corvallis, into this smaller one-story home in town and wanted to make this new home meet their forever needs. The previous work on the home left significant imperfections that needed to be addressed, and the owners wanted to remove all natural gas in order to have an all-electric, powered-by-solar home. Additionally, we wanted to improve the feel of this home to match the preferences of these new owners, without remodeling every area of the home, including keeping the Kitchen that had been remodeled recently. One of the most significant visible improvements to this home was the custom rift-sawn white oak front living room built-in cabinets. Paired with replacing the greyish-brown LVT flooring with natural white oak hardwood floors, these cabinets greet the owners and each visitor with warmth and comfort, using warm wood tones and all-natural materials, including a statement Blue Tempest Quartzite fireplace stone surround. The new hardwood floors are carried throughout the entirety of the home and add a beautiful warmth to the existing white and black kitchen design. These built-in cabinets also provide necessary storage for this downsized home.

The private residence was built in the Las Ventaras neighborhood, located on the outskirts of Arroyo Grande. Completed in 2013 for the Woolpert family, this Tuscan style residence utilizes the “Vitruvian” foam panel construction system for both exterior walls and roof. This construction technique lends itself particularly well for the large, voluminous spaces incorporated into this design. A beautiful rustic contemporary home designed on the outskirts of Calgary on a stunning lot overlooking a golf course, with one of the most amazing views of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Spacious living and a very private master suite were key requirements for this project. This unique opportunity to design a new home in Millport was one which JAM Architects relished. The location of the site on a hill on the outskirts of the village presented an opportunity to design a new two bedroom home taking advantage of the views of the ocean. The unusual floorplan design with a ‘kink’ at the centre point of the building is as a result of this with the front of the home orientated to address the street and the rear half positioned to ensure the best views from the corner window in the livingroom and the master bedroom window. As a result of a recent accident our client for this project was unfortunately left with some mobility issues and our brief was therefore to design a two bedroom home with all the primary accomodation on the ground floor, with a studio space, guest bedroom and guest shower room on the first floor. The ground floor consists of a open plan kitchen, dining and living room with direct access to a generous outside patio area. In addition to this living space there is also a utility room, w.c, master bedroom and ensuite bathroom. On the first floor our client was also keen to take advantage of the sea views from this elevated position and a sheletered balcony area has been incorporated adjacent to the studio space.

The Desert Blume Homeowners' Association hired Specialty Gardens to design, build, install and maintain the Seasonal Container plantings for their subdivision on the outskirts of Medicine Hat. Lighting is solar in all the containers as there is no electricity in these locations. The arrangements must withstand high winds and visits from hungry ungulates (mule deer) as well.
