Pulling from her inspirations toward southern charm and hospitality, Jennifer combines treasures from her "junking" adventures with vintage Eva Zeisel china to create a mood befitting of the most perfect summer day. The 12-foot table was hand made from barn siding. Jennifer picked the chairs from a dumpster, later realizing that each one had a name on it. "Because on the back of each one is a name of the person's chair, it makes it fun for parties because everyone gets a new name at dinner!" she says. The dining room is sunken one step to create a sense of comforting enclosure, bounded by a modern interpretation of a traditional shoji screen. A change in wood flooring pattern marks the room as distinct, the herringbone texture reminiscent of customary woven tatami mats.

An reclaimed wood farm table can immediately bring warmth to any area that needs softening. The hard faux cement floor and the large windows call for something soft which this table does naturally. The aged patina in old wood is beautiful and is noticeably different than artificial patinas made from new wood. The painted base adds softness and is a great color compliment to the blue-grays in the floor.

This transitional dining room was designed for a couple that wanted a space to reflect their unique style that was comfortable, colorful, and rustic. The antiqued table and end chairs with burlap brings a casual yet modern feel to the room. Michael Hunter Photography
