The existing two story residence was built in 1937 and has a footprint of approximately 2,850 sq. ft. While much of the plan at both levels remained in its original “formal” layout with spacious rooms, the home did not meet the current day needs for this modern family. The lack of an “informal” family-room, no space to accommodate overnight guests, only a small powder room tucked under the main stair at the ground floor, and barely enough room for one car in the garage, not to mention the lack of storage space were the problems to solve.
After investigating numerous options the decision was made to introduce a new two story addition with maid’s quarters, a new laundry room, and a three car garage with plenty of additional storage space at the first floor, and a two bedroom guest suite with a kitchenette and living quarters at the second floor. Together with a small addition, this move delivered over 600 sq. ft in the main structure for a new family room with game tables and a full bathroom for guests which also serves as a cabana for the pool area.
The design of the additions, including the introduction of new fenestration to capitalize on daylight and views was sensitive to the original architecture and unanimously approved by the Historic Preservation Board of West Palm Beach.

Our clients for this project had purchased a home that had a few updates by the previous owners including granite countertops and a backsplash that needed help.
We replaced that backsplash with crackled porcelain tile with custom artwork as an accent behind the cooktop. We reworked the cabinets above the cooktop and built a custom hood that encloses a hood liner operated by a remote blower. All cabinets were completely repainted and we also applied a light walnut glaze. The finishing touch was LED lighting that nicely lights up the backsplash and can be left on as an accent light even overnight.
We also installed stainless steel appliances. The drawer microwave required some modifications of the island where we chose an olive green accenting color along with the walnut glaze that matches the rest of the kitchen cabinets.
This was a great project that really dressed up the kitchen with a very light touch.

With several grandchildren and puppy dogs roaming around, the kids needed a play space of their own. The second floor bonus room became a game/media room as well as an extra bedroom with a pull-out sofa.
The lively colors from downstairs are more vibrant in the kids area with fun pattern play in the fabrics.
A bright shag rug is soft underfoot and perfect for an afternoon board game. Swivel chairs and light side tables make it easy to reconfigure this room for movie night or overnight guests.

Home offices have now become staples in most households around the world offering people a space to work and be productive day in and day out. How circumstances have changed! In this day and age, many do not have to leave their houses to reach their workplace. This particular office space was once an unused bedroom. Who wouldn’t appreciate calling this beautiful room their place of work? The impressive large window was the starting point in the design process. Identical custom built-ins house printers and office supplies. They were installed on both sides for added storage. Solid wood shelves supported by custom black metal brackets display fun memorabilia and ornaments. They also complete the symmetry look. One of the home owners’ requisites was to have a place for visitors to stay overnight. This beautiful chair opens into a one-person bed for convenience. A new light fixture, a double barn door, an area rug, two computer chairs, and two desk lamps complete the look. If you are fortunate enough to have your own office space in your home, kudos to you. Grab a coffee and get to work!

Outfitted for grandchildren, the basement bunkroom, which sleeps eight, was one of the much needed additions for this growing family.
