The design of this master bathroom is set to compliment the natural stone slab floor that sets the tone for this room. Because the entire second floor of the house was renovated into a master suite, the client requested an open concept plan for the entire suite. This allowed Equilibrium to increase the floor area of the bathroom and design an incredible statement piece which is the floor. Honey onyx slabs were cut into oversized tiles to make them more manageable and installed in a diamond pattern preserving continuity of lines from tile to tile, and slab to slab. Furthermore, what otherwise would be waste cut material, it was chiseled, flamed, and fabricated into custom mosaic installed on the back wall of the bathroom and on shower floor. To ensure Client’s safety, slabs were treated with anti slippage treatment and shower floor was finished with matching mosaic. Client requested that the shower is oversized and feels like showering under a waterfall. This was accomplished by running four separate water lines to feed the shower plumbing. When the two oversized rain heads, two shower heads, and six water jets are all on, you get the feeling of being under a natural waterfall in the Amazon. Non of this would be possible in today’s water starved world if it wasn’t for harvesting and special filtration system installed on this property that allows recirculation of water. Variation of lighting types allows for various theme settings, and energy efficient LED lighting further enhance the beauty of this bathroom with minimum energy consumption. Even edges of slabs were polished to ensure maximum light refraction with beveled seams that create purposeful patterns instead of hiding seams. Shower doors were etched with a pattern that adds dimension and provides privacy while complimenting the mosaic pattern on the back wall. The double sink vanity was floated off the floor allowing for maximum visibility of this artistic installation. It was made of rosewood and designed with three sections for drawers and storage. The three levels create a scalloping effect allowing each to be illuminated by LED lights which reflect elegantly in the onyx slab floor. Complimented by honey onyx top, and placed against a 42” high onyx wainscot, it is a functional and beautiful millwork. This master bathroom is a testament to engineering, originality, and beauty seen in every detail. To replace an over-sized and outdated built-in jacuzzi, a freestanding tub perfectly measured to the Client's size is nestled under the window. For maximum lifestyle and resale value, the basement was renovated with a full bath for both guests and the fitness enthusiasts. The new bath follows the same urban design with black wall-hung cabinetry and a reclaimed walnut countertop. The black paned shower door welcomes guests into an oversized shower with stunning oversized porcelain tiles, black fixtures, and a wall-to-wall niche.

The owner's spa in this house is second to none. The large oversized shower features two benches, three shower heads & is flooded with natural light. Dual vanities, a freestanding tub, make up counter & toilet room truly make this a luxury bath.

This master bath is a spa-like retreat with plenty of natural light. The oversize shower boasts plenty of space including a bench. The shower wall tile is a porcelain tile that closely resembles carrera marble giving this space a boost of luxury. Alpine white cabinets with quartz counter-tops are in keeping with the clean feel of master bath. Oversize porcelain gray floor tile set off these cabinets and the stand-alone soaking tub.

Complete remodel and addition to the master bathroom. We took the original tiny bathroom, and tore down a wall to an oversized walk in closet, to make room for this luxurious walk in shower and tub combo. There's generous room in the shower to allow for a built in bench that carries over to the deck mounted tub filler. The large ledge around the tub serves multiple functions; first as seating space for the owners to be able to bathe their young children and second, for them to rest a glass of wine while soaking to relax at the end of a long day.

DOWNLOAD NOW   Lakefront property in the northwest suburbs of Chicago is hard to come by, so when we were hired by this young family with exactly that, we were immediately inspired by not just the unusually large footprint of this 1950’s colonial revival but also the lovely views of the manmade lake it was sited on. The large 5-bedroom home was solidly stuck in the 1980’s, but we saw tons of potential. We started out by updating the existing staircase with a fresh coat of paint and adding new herringbone slate to the entry hall. The powder room off the entryway also got a refresh - new flooring, new cabinets and fixtures. We ran the new slate right through into this space for some consistency. A fun wallpaper and shiplap trim add a welcoming feel and set the tone for the home. Next, we tackled the kitchen. Located away from the rest of the first floor, the kitchen felt a little isolated, so we immediately began planning for how to better connect it to the rest of the first floor. We landed on removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room and designed a modified galley style space with separate cooking and clean up zones. The cooking zone consists of the refrigerator, prep sink and cooktop, along with a nice long run of prep space at the island. The cleanup side of the kitchen consists of the main sink and dishwasher. Both areas are situated so that the user can view the lake during prep work and cleanup! One of the home’s main puzzles was how to incorporate the mudroom and area in front of the patio doors at the back of the house. We already had a breakfast table area, so the space by the patio doors was a bit of a no man’s land. We decided to separate the kitchen proper from what became the new mudroom with a large set of barn doors. That way you can quickly hide any mudroom messes but have easy access to the light coming in through the patio doors as well as the outdoor grilling station. We also love the impact the barn doors add to the overall space. The homeowners’ first words to us were “it’s time to ditch the brown,” so we did! We chose a lovely blue pallet that reflects the home’s location on the lake which is also vibrant yet easy on the eye. Countertops are white quartz, and the natural oak floor works well with the other honey accents. The breakfast table was given a refresh with new chairs, chandelier and window treatments that frame the gorgeous views of the lake out the back. We coordinated the slate mudroom flooring with that used in the home’s main entrance for a consistent feel. The storage area consists of open and closed storage to allow for some clutter control as needed. Next on our “to do” list was revamping the dated brown bar area in the neighboring dining room. We eliminated the clutter by adding some closed cabinets and did some easy updates to help the space feel more current. One snag we ran into here was the discovery of a beam above the existing open shelving that had to be modified with a smaller structural beam to allow for our new design to work. This was an unexpected surprise, but in the end we think it was well worth it! We kept the colors here a bit more muted to blend with the homeowner’s existing furnishings. Open shelving and polished nickel hardware add some simple detail to the new entertainment zone which also looks out onto the lake! Next we tackled the upstairs starting with the homeowner’s son’s bath. The bath originally had both a tub shower and a separate shower, so we decided to swap out the shower for a new laundry area. This freed up some space downstairs in what used to be the mudroom/laundry room and is much more convenient for daily laundry needs. We continued the blue palette here with navy cabinetry and the navy tile in the shower. Porcelain floor tile and chrome fixtures keep maintenance to a minimum while matte black mirrors and lighting add some depth the design. A low maintenance runner adds some warmth underfoot and ties the whole space together. We added a pocket door to the bathroom to minimize interference with the door swings. The left door of the laundry closet is on a 180 degree hinge to allow for easy full access to the machines. Next we tackled the master bath which is an en suite arrangement. The original was typical of the 1980’s with the vanity outside of the bathroom, situated near the master closet. And the brown theme continued here with multiple shades of brown. Our first move was to segment off the bath and the closet from the master bedroom. We created a short hall from the bedroom to the bathroom with his and hers walk-in closets on the left and right as well as a separate toilet closet outside of the main bathroom for privacy and flexibility. The original bathroom had a giant soaking tub with steps (dangerous!) as well as a small shower that did not work well for our homeowner who is 6’3”. With other bathtubs in the home, they decided to eliminate the tub and create an oversized shower which takes up the space where the old tub was located. The double vanity is on the opposite wall and a bench is located under the window for morning conversations and a place to set a couple of towels. The pallet in here is light and airy with a mix of blond wood, creamy porcelain and marble tile, and brass accents. A simple roman shade adds some texture and it’s top-down mechanism allows for light and privacy. This large whole house remodel gave our homeowners not only the ability to maximize the potential of their home but also created a lovely new frame from which to view their fabulous lake views. This Houston, Texas River Oaks home went through a complete remodel of their master bathroom. Originally, it was a bland rectangular space with a misplaced shower in the center of the bathroom; partnered with a built-in tub against the window. We redesigned the new space by completely gutting the old bathroom. We decided to make the space flow more consistently by working with the rectangular layout and then created a master bathroom with free-standing tub inside the shower enclosure. The tub was floated inside the shower by the window. Next, we added a large bench seat with an oversized mosaic glass backdrop by Lunada Bay "Agate Taiko. The 9’ x 9’ shower is fully enclosed with 3/8” seamless glass. The furniture-like vanity was custom built with decorative overlays on the mirror doors to match the shower mosaic tile design. Further, we bleached the hickory wood to get the white wash stain on the cabinets. The floor tile is 12" x 24" Athena Sand with a linear mosaic running the length of the room. This tranquil spa bath has many luxurious amenities such as a Bain Ultra Air Tub, "Evanescence" with Brizo Virage Lavatory faucets and fixtures in a brushed bronze brilliance finish. Overall, this was a drastic, yet much needed change for my client.

The homeowners wanted to remodel their outdated bathroom into a luxurious spa-like sanctuary with a transitional aesthetic. Since there are other tubs in this house, the decision to get rid of the roman tub was made. This left space for an oversized spa shower. The old, dark corner shower became an amazing linen closet - something this bath did not have. The curb-less shower with an oversized shower head, hand-held faucet and shower jets in brushed nickel along with its tile focal point, niche and barn- door shower door sets the tone for this amazing transitional spa-like bathroom. Adding new large format tile flooring, painting the existing cabinets and walls, adding a quartz countertop and brushed, nickel, transitional faucets completes the look. The new bathroom even includes a new bidet. This luxury bath remodel hits all the notes of a transitional, spa- like environment with its serene colors and luxurious finishes.
