Kitchen - traditional kitchen idea in Louisville

When Menges & Curtis Pharmacy opened during the height of the Industrial Revolution on Saratoga Springs’ main street, its druggists mixed tinctures and remedies to their own formulas, examined and treated patients and even applied leeches if it was deemed appropriate. By 2010, the family that had owned the Menges & Curtis for the past 50 years was struggling with the conventional pharmacist’s lot in modern life: handing out prepared medications for an increasingly lower insurance reimbursements, and trying to make up the difference by selling spa and personal care products. All the while, M&C’s traditional clientele was drifting away to chain drugstores, supermarkets and retailers such as Walmart stores, which were dispensing medications at low margins to lure shoppers into their aisles while they waited for their prescriptions. The owner restructured his business plan, selling his traditional pharmacy assets to a chain and creating a partnership with a “compounding shop” in Latham to go back to time-honored methods of creating personally formulated nutritional and vitamin supplements, hormone balancers and natural wellness herbal extracts for preventative health maintenance, chronic illnesses, veterinary and pediatric care. Now a new business with an old-school ethos, Fallon Wellness Pharmacy needed substantial renovations to its iconic storefront in the S.W. Ainsworth Building in Saratoga’s Broadway Historic District. The low ceilings made the space feel cramped, and storage was ineffective. The new partners called upon Old Saratoga Restorations to project manage a complete modernization of the space, adding graceful private consultation rooms and compounding labs to comply with health and safety codes, while respecting the integrity of the ornate High Victorian 1871 brick commercial block building.

We optimized the space in this tiny 5'x8' bathroom by knocking out a laundry shoot, installing a wall tank toilet, and using a rounded edge pedestal sink. Grip bars were installed to accommodate aging-in-place for relatives. Allan Weston- photographer; Jeffrey Tyson- post production

Home office - mid-century modern freestanding desk light wood floor home office idea in Los Angeles with white walls and no fireplace

Our installation experts at Independent Home just completed a walk in tub installation for our customer Edward of Haddonfield. Find out why he decided to go with Independent Home along with how the installation was completed. Edward began shopping around for walk in tubs about a month ago. He was looking for a tub that was not only safe but could help with his arthritis. He received quotes from a few different companies but in the end decided on Independent Home. We were chosen because our salesmen were not pushy and were patient with answering all of Edward’s questions. A pre-installation meeting was then scheduled. The pre-installation meeting involved our installation experts and, of course, Edward. The meeting consisted of discussing what tub would be best for Edward’s needs, where the best location would be, and what type of finish should be added. Edward and our experts decided to go with our celebrity walk in tub with hydrotherapy model. The celebrity was the best choice for Edward because it had all of the requirements he was looking for. It met his safety requirements with a non-slip floor, an ADA compliant seat, and a low threshold for an easy entrance and exit. The tub’s hydrotherapy features will be able to reduce Edward’s arthritis pain. All he has to do is turn on the jets and relax. The way that the jets move will increase his circulation which will help his muscles and joints rehabilitate. The entire installation process only took a couple of days to complete. This consisted of removing Edward’s old tub and foundation, bringing in the new tub, leveling the legs, connecting the water, and testing for leaks. The last step of the installation was building the finish with a simple tile wall surround that Edward had requested. Edward loves his new tub. The hydrotherapy features have decreased his arthritis pain, allowing him to get out more.

When we were asked to finish off this Cardinal Club Dining Area, we started with the homeowner’s table & chairs and the existing paint color. We added warmth with drapery panels and a rug, color with artwork and interest with the fabulous chandelier. We needed a console table to anchor the back wall. We found this narrow piece in a light finish that works well against the darker wall. The landscape artwork brings in the colors from the Living Area. We added a coordinating group of artwork in the Kitchen Area to break up the long wall. Adding a rug underneath the table helped break up the wood tones in the furniture and the flooring and made the space flow into the Living Area by incorporating the same colors. We wanted to make a real statement in this Cardinal Club Dining Area with the chandelier. The homeowner was very patient because it took us a while to get this one in. As you can see, it was definitely worth the wait! The moral of this story is you can make a Big Impact in a Small Space. Enjoy!

Designed by Carolina Maholik of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Chantilly, VA, this multi bathroom remodeling project features a traditional style inspired design across five bathrooms. Each bathroom features Greenfield Cabinetry vanity cabinets in the door style Jackson Inset in the Gardenia finish, paired with Silestone countertops in Eternal Calacatta Gold in Suede. “The home is as beautiful as the owners. They had existing Greenfield cabinetry throughout the home that set us up for a beautiful flow into the primary suite,” said Carolina. “The primary bathroom was transformed with a beautiful cabinet layout for dual use as well as custom details for full function of their daily routines. The natural light with the neutral white allowed us to help the space beam in beauty. The other bathrooms followed suit with more traditional setups for ease of use in each individual’s space.
