This project was a complete transformation of a dated kitchen into a warm, functional modern cottage–inspired space with custom cabinetry designed specifically for the layout of the home. To improve the flow and usability of the space, several structural adjustments were made. The bathroom door, kitchen-to-dining room doorway, and back entry door were all reworked to create a more cohesive layout and improve circulation through the kitchen. All cabinetry was custom built to maximize storage and make full use of the available space. The sage green shaker-style cabinets provide a soft, timeless color that complements the home while giving the kitchen a fresh new character. The ceilings were sanded and skim coated for a smooth finish, replacing the previous textured finish and creating a cleaner, more modern look throughout the room. Additional work included installation of new flooring, tile backsplash, trim, and finishing details that tie the entire kitchen together. The patterned backsplash adds texture and visual interest while maintaining the warm, cottage-inspired aesthetic. The countertop installation and plumbing work were completed by others, while the remainder of the renovation—including cabinetry, layout adjustments, flooring, drywall finishing, tile work, and trim—was performed as part of this project. The result is a **dramatic transformation** that turned a dated kitchen into a bright, welcoming space with custom-built functionality and timeless style.

Located in Sultan, Washington this barn home houses miniature therapy horses below and a 1,296 square foot home above. The structure includes a full-length shed roof on one side that's been partially enclosed for additional storage space and access via a roll-up door. The barn level contains three 12'x12' horse stalls, a tack room and wash/groom bay. The paddocks are located off the side of the building with turnouts under a second shed roof. To build on that detail, we incorporated hints of wood in the new design at the range hood, sink cabinetry, desktop, and open shelving. There was also existing tile flooring that the homeowner wanted to keep, so light, neutral cabinetry was the perfect complement to the wood and tile, brightening the entire space. The two-tiered wrap around peninsula offers an abundance of room for guests to sit and eat or visit with those in the kitchen. It also serves to delineate the kitchen from the living area. Although the kitchen’s footprint wasn’t altered, we did move the stove to the back wall. This change optimized functionality and set a dramatic focal point. The professional-style, six-burner gas range is sure to be a high-performer when cooking any meal. On special occasions when numerous dishes are on the menu, the convection microwave will come in handy, operating as a second oven or a microwave. The under-counter dish drawers provide efficient storage and eliminate the need for pulling serving pieces down from an overhead cabinet. For the entry way we started off by doing some prep work. Next we added a semi gloss finish to the baseboard and door trim followed by a rich vibrant bold red satin finish. A satin finish is great for high traffic areas as they are easier to clean than your standard flat finish. In this bedroom we started by removing the strip of wall paper running along the center of the wall and repairing the drywall damage above and surrounding the radiator. after doing additional prep work we added two coats of ceiling paint to the walls as well as a semi gloss finish to the baseboard trim, door trim and the door itself. Next we primed the wall and added two coats of a neutral matte flat finish to the walls. This bedroom had plain dirty off white walls with matching trim and a faded ceiling color. After doing some prep work we gave the trim along the floor, ceiling and windowsill a nice clean white semi gloss finished and the walls and ceiling a smooth neutral color flat finish. After doing some prep work we applied a fresh coat of ceiling paint to the ceiling followed by two coats of matte flat paint. For the upstairs office we started off by removing all the wall paper and performing some prep work. Next we added new ceiling paint and a semi gloss finish along the baseboards, window trim and door trim as well as the door itself. We followed this up by giving the room a simple neutral flat finish.

Modern Farmhouse is a contemporary take on a tradition building type, the Connecticut farmhouse. Our clients were interested in a house that fit in with the landscape while providing plenty of daylight with views to the surrounding property. The design uses simple gables arranged in a picturesque manner. It balances clean modern lines, traditional forms, and rustic textures. The new house is bright and light while also feeling personal and unique. There was interest early on to compress the construction time and to design a building that would not take a lot of energy to run. To achieve these goals, the design of the main house used modular construction and a high performance envelope. To articulate the surfaces of the spaces, the owner assembled a group of designers and artisans. Natural textures and tones were layered over the volumes to give a sense of place and time. The modular units of the house are produced by Huntington Homes in East Montpelier, Vermont. In addition to the main house, there is a pool house that sits symmetrically on the main axis of a long swimming pool. A glass enclosed living room fits between two concrete volumes that house a bathroom and storage spaces. An outdoor shower faces south, with an oculus that lets light in when the door is closed. The simple forms of the pool house sit below a green roof, which protects the glassy room from the summer sun and integrates the building into the hilly landscape.
