Design by Joanna Hartman Photography by Ryann Ford Styling by Adam Fortner The kitchen features 3cm Bianco Carrara Marble counters, hardware salvaged from original kitchen, a mixture of new and old oak flooring, Rittenhouse 3x6 white gloss tile for the backsplash, Benjamin Moore "Simply White" paint on the ceiling, "Revere Pewter" on the walls by the same, and a clear Shades of Light Teardrop Seeded Pendant above the island.

The original kitchen was dark, dingy and dated! With the criteria given, we transformed this space into a bright uplifting and family friendly space. We retained the original kitchen footprint and kept plumbing and electrical in the same locations for budgetary considerations. The kitchen was redesigned with entertaining in mind. From custom two-toned cabinetry to sophisticated banquette seating, we re-imagined a bright space with a new personality reaping the benefits of the influx of natural light from the double height windows in the adjacent great room. From the calcutta marble tile backsplash, caesarstone counter tops and porcelain tile floors, this updated kitchen provided my clients with their dream kitchen …a bright white entertainers delight. We created a light fixture (based on Lindsay Adelman's You Make It) and had it plated copper to coordinate with the lovely copper chairs. Both metal pieces were not sealed and allow the natural patina and fingerprints to add interesting texture and warmth. The shades were of a natural material and allow light to pass through for an airy feel but diffuse it enough to avoid a harsh glare. © scott benedict | practical(ly) studios

Over the Merrimack River and Through the Woods Set back from the road in a picturesque plush green setting flanked by towering 90’ pine trees with seasonal views of the Merrimack River, this 1960’s home was an ideal location to support this amazing kitchen transformation. The privacy, views, peaceful environment and very little traffic provides this family with the lifestyle they’ve grown to love and therefore decided was well worth the investment. Thoughtful space-planning solutions, creative layout and focus on function produced this aesthetically pleasing and sensible design.
