In Seattle's Fremont neighborhood SCJ Studio designed a new landscape to surround and set off a contemporary home by Coates Design Architects. The narrow spaces around the tall home needed structure and organization, and a thoughtful approach to layout and space programming. A concrete patio was installed with a Paloform Bento gas fire feature surrounded by lush, northwest planting. A horizontal board cedar fence provides privacy from the street and creates the cozy feeling of an outdoor room among the trees. LED low-voltage lighting by Kichler Lighting adds night-time warmth . Small elegant concrete patio photo in San Francisco with no cover

A 3,882 sq ft two-storey custom home built ground-up on a 50 by 130 foot lot in Studio City. Five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a detached 600 sq ft guest house with its own bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette at the back of the lot. Every appliance in both kitchens is electric — it's written on the permit drawings — and the house runs on solar, with an EV charging station roughed in at framing. Vaulted ceilings across the second floor, a full-height window at the stair landing, and glass at both ends of the main floor so light crosses the whole plate rather than stopping halfway. The lot is zoned LAR1 inside the City of Los Angeles, so plan check ran through LADBS. Completed 2024. Built by Go Home Builders — CSLB License #1076807, Altadena, CA.

Inspiration for a mid-sized transitional light wood floor mudroom remodel in Chicago with purple walls

This 264 square foot prefab home was packaged and brought to the client’s property as just 64 flatpacked components, and assembled from start to finish in six weeks. It was permitted as a residential secondary dwelling unit according to the planning code in the city of Livermore. The interior can be fitted with a full kitchen or simple counter and wetbar, and a full or half bath – or left open for office or guest bedroom use. The Britespace is available in 264, 352, and 480 square foot sizes, and comes in a limited number of design options for interior and exterior finishes. The homeowners desired an outdoor space that felt more rustic than their refined interior spaces, but still related architecturally to their house. Cement plaster support arbor columns provide enough of visual tie to the existing house exterior. Oversized wood beams and rafter members provide a unique outdoor atmosphere. For this 2-bedroom condo in a classic Brooklyn brownstone, Cheung Showman Architects worked with the client to introduce a variety of material textures to a space previously characterized by plaster molding. Reclaimed wood floors, shelves made of old joists, and painted brick serve to change the feeling of 'history' in the apartment, supplementing the original molding's sharp classical lines with natural variation and layering over time.
