Inspiration for a bathroom remodel

The homeowner wanted to have her backyard professionally designed addressing a persisting drainage issue that compromised the pool maintenance. The design addressed the drainage issue by installing an underground system with PVC piping and catch basins to deviate water to the street. The homeowner's main desire was to create a walking area behind the pool with space for quiet reading and a new landscape to provide privacy and enjoyment. Sphere boxwoods are the protagonists of the scene over limestone gravel along with agapanthuses; both adapted to partial shade from the many pine trees located along with the property. The main accomplishment was to provide a lush landscape in a previously problematic area with no drainage and shade. The flow of the walking area continues with liriope and mondo grass leading to a peaceful reading area surrounded by beautiful boulders and muhly grass.

Ground up construction of pool house and pool tucked within a century old Olmstead landscape design overlooking the coast of Massachusetts’ north shore. Extensive logistical planning and persistent awareness required to build within the historical landscape without disruption. Custom detailing throughout includes reclaimed local Rockport granite, ellipse shaped window and door headers replicating the historical main house, herringbone brick floors, reclaimed wood vanities, hidden screens, and venetian plaster, create a truly custom building.

Awarded by the Classical institute of art and architecture , the linnean house has a restrained and simple elevation of doors and windows. Nestled in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Washington, D.C., the Linnean House is classical in both plan and elevation throughout its award-winning house plans. The main mass, comprising of the most formal and public spaces, is a spatial triptych along a symmetrical main axis. Inside the luxury home, the limestone façade, simple but well-proportioned with classical elements, extends itself into both the entry portico and main foyer with consistent proportions and materiality. This introduction allows the flanking living and dining rooms to be perceived as separate pavilions, each equipped with eight equal-proportioned French doors symmetrical of the main axis. Beyond the classical spaces are two wings which lead to the master suite and a kitchen/family space, respectively. Both of which are situated to queue from the French door axis, a focal feature in the repeatedly published home design. Complete Gut Renovation: DOB Permit required for 2 Bedroom, 1 and 1/2 bath prewar in estate condition. Created a great open room for kitchen/dining/living room by removing walls between kitchen and living room, opening doorways, changing and adding closets, upgrading electric to 100 AMPs. The additional glass double depth storage over the peninsula opened the space between the kitchen and the dining/living room. The washer and dryer were included, with the bonus of a true powder room off the kitchen. The refinished dark original floors were a perfect finish for a phenomenal transformation! This curbside garden shows lots of color and takes a beating from street traffic, salt spray, and drought. Flowering plants persist from spring to fall.

Kaplan Architects, AIA Location: San Francisco, CA, USA This project was the third remodel for this client which involved a complete reorganization and renovation of their existing master bathroom. We were hired evaluate the existing layout of the space, take measures in the redesign to mitigate a persistent leak in the space below the bathroom, and develop a complete and detailed interior design of the remodeled bathroom. The client was also interested in develop any aging in place measures we could implement with the new design changes. We developed a new layout which reorganized the space. The project includes a separate tub and walk in shower area. We created various storage areas which included custom built in medicine cabinets, storage over the wall hung toilet, and a vanity cabinet custom designed for the new space. We also developed the lighting design for the renovated space which included custom lighting between the mirror areas above the vanity.
