This "den" was quite generous in size and allowed for both a convertable daybed and home office space. We love the unique accents that give this fairly simple space some warmth and personality. The simple floorlamps are ideal when there is limited space. The modern take on the futon allows for casual seating or sleeping when the need arises.

At 19 Irving Avenue, the family room unfolds as the emotional center of Joseph Eichler’s personal residence—a space where architecture, light, and daily life converge in a way that feels both effortless and intentional.

From the moment you enter, the room reveals Eichler’s emerging vision of California Modern living. Walls dissolve into glass, pulling in views of the surrounding landscape and the geometric pool beyond, while natural light moves freely through the space from morning to evening. The effect is immersive—less like a room and more like a continuation of the outdoors.
The proportions are deliberate yet relaxed. Clean lines and an open layout allow the space to breathe, while subtle architectural cues—beam lines, ceiling planes, and sightlines—quietly guide movement and perspective. There’s no sense of confinement; instead, the room feels expansive, designed to flex with the rhythms of everyday life.
It’s easy to imagine how this space functioned for Eichler and his family—not as a formal living room, but as a place to gather, to connect, to live. That distinction matters. This wasn’t about showcasing design for its own sake; it was about redefining how a home could feel—casual, connected, and deeply human.
In many ways, the family room at 19 Irving is where Eichler’s philosophy comes into focus. The openness, the transparency, the seamless indoor-outdoor flow—it all begins here, in a space that quietly set the tone for an entirely new way of living in California.

The gallery wall made up of antique mirrors and vintage art make this a gem of a powder room. The antique sink is a Turkish marble basin sitting a top a painted antique chest. The faucets are mounted directly to the wall. Photo: Lauren Rubinstein

This fun and stylish bathroom features Sherwin-Williams “Lemon Meringue” SW 7561 on Dura Supreme's Homestead door style. This off-white color warms up a space like bright yellow sun rays on a summer’s day. This color was selected for Dura Supreme’s 2017-2018 Curated Color Collection. Dura Supreme’s Curated Color Collection is a collection of cabinet paint colors that are always fresh, current and reflective of popular color trends for home interiors and cabinetry. This offering of colors is continuously updated as color trends shift.
Painted cabinetry is more popular than ever before and the color you select for your home should be a reflection of your personal taste and style. Our Personal Paint Match Program offers the entire Sherwin-William’s paint palette and Benjamin Moore’s paint palette, over 5,000 colors, for your new kitchen or bath cabinetry.
Color is a highly personal preference for most people and although there are specific colors that are considered “on trend” or fashionable, color choices should ultimately be based on what appeals to you personally. Homeowners often ask about color trends and how to incorporate them into newly designed or renovated interiors. And although trends and fashion should be taken into consideration, that should not be the only deciding factor. If you love a specific shade of green, select complementing neutrals and coordinating colors to create an entire palette that will remain an everlasting classic. It could be something as simple as being able to select the perfect shade of white that complements the countertop and tile and works well in a specific lighting situation. Our new Personal Paint Match system makes that process so much easier.
