The bathroom was completely gutted, we removed a closet and built a larger shower. The enlarged shower features Moen vertical spa with multiples functions including a Hansgrohe shower head, ceiling-mount rain head and a hand-held on the bar. Storage features include a recessed niche with shelf and a floating corner seat. 12" glass mosaic feature strip that continues throughout the whole bathroom. Tile is 12" x 24" marble tile with offset pattern. 1" x 2" fabric tile adorns the floor. There is a ceiling heating lamp for warmth. Heavy clear glass frameless hinged door with brushed nickel trim.
We installed two wall-mounted custom-made floating vanities with Granite countertops and Kohler vessel bowls in white with Moen wall-mounted faucets in brushed nickel.
Flooring is 12" x 24" fabric floor tile in an offset pattern with perfectly heated floor. Controls are mounted by the vanity. A 6" platform take you to the freestanding tub with brushed nickel exterior with acrylic interior and a Moen floor mount free-standing tub faucet.
Wall tile is half wall which matches the shower wall. http://www.melissamannphotography.com/

Master Bedroom; Warm greys with accents of orange continue the color theme of the home. A custom made headboard along with a platform bed maintains the midcentury modern feel. Custom window coverings and pillows give the room a one-of-a-kind look.

With a minimalist, modern design, the Pembroke Square Platform Bed offers sleek style for the bedroom. A large scale headboard upholstered in white bicast leather plays with the stainless steel accents for a good-looking piece of furniture. This low profile bed has been created with eco-friendly materials.

Our goal here was to offer our clients a full spa-like experience. From the unique aesthetic to the luxury finishes, this master bathroom now has a completely new look and function!
For a true spa experience, we installed a shower steam, rain head shower fixture, and whirlpool tub. The bathtub platform actually extends into the shower, working as a bench for the clients to relax on while steaming! Convenient corner shelves optimize shower storage whereas a custom walnut shelf above the bath offers the perfect place to store dry towels.
We continued the look of rich, organic walnut with a second wall-mounted shelf above the toilet and a large, semi-customized vanity, where the louvered doors accentuate the natural beauty of this material. The white brick accent wall, herringbone patterned flooring, and black hardware were introduced for texture and a trendy, timeless look that our clients will love for years to come.

Upstairs in the loft's bedroom, the idea of the Moroccan bazaar continues, with a Turkish hand-knotted rug combined with a mid-century modern chair in front of a desk. The large platform bed is flanked by a pair of bedside table lamps on mismatched tables.

This bathroom is a serene, modern retreat that blends clean architectural lines with warm, organic textures. The freestanding white soaking tub becomes the focal point, set on an elevated platform wrapped in narrow, linear tile that continues halfway up the wall. The ribbed detailing of the tile creates subtle movement, complementing the soft beige tones while adding a sense of texture and depth. A matte black floor-mounted tub filler and a sculptural black side stool provide bold contrast, grounding the space with a contemporary edge. A leafy potted plant adds a natural, refreshing touch beside the tub, softening the overall look.
Natural light floods the room through a large arched window framed in crisp white trim, offering views of lush greenery outside and reinforcing the connection between indoors and outdoors. Above, a minimalist flush-mount light and matching wall sconces continue the clean, understated design language, allowing the architectural elements to shine.
The vanity features warm, natural wood cabinetry paired with a pale stone countertop, striking a perfect balance between modern and timeless. A large rectangular mirror framed in matte black is flanked by vertical black sconces with globe bulbs, creating symmetry and rhythm while tying in the darker accents throughout the room.
On the opposite side, a dramatic arched cabinet in a rich black finish introduces a sculptural element, while the adjacent shower makes a statement with earthy stone tiles accented by a decorative banding detail. The shower entry is framed with white marble veining, which elegantly transitions from the neutral gray floor tile into the rich tones of the shower interior.
Every detail of this bathroom has been considered to achieve a refined yet welcoming atmosphere. The palette of warm woods, creamy neutrals, and bold black accents creates a space that feels elevated yet effortless—modern but inviting. This is not just a bathroom, but a carefully crafted sanctuary designed for relaxation, function, and timeless style.

To achieve the desired separation of wet and dry areas, we used two distinct flooring materials: smooth tile and textured pebble tile, strategically following the room’s natural angles. This created a subtle yet effective division. In the wet area, we opted for pebble tile, flowing seamlessly into the curbless shower and continuing up the back wall, which tied the entire space together despite its large size.
We replaced the outdated platform tub with a freestanding tub for a modern update. We introduced a natural wood-look slat wall behind it, adding warmth and visual interest. One of the standout features of this remodel is the niche wall between the tub and shower, which draws the eye immediately upon entering the room. Here, we integrated Calacatta gold mosaic marble, complemented by a natural quartersawn white oak floating bench and niche shelves, bringing in the organic elements the clients desired.

French Country - Modern shine brightly together. French Country projects are known to lean towards white vanities. This particular client was willing to make that artistic step; peacock blue was chosen for this Master Bathroom vanity. The color adds a very happy feel to the space. There is a confusion that white actually makes a space happier. Here is a little food for thought; white is never just white. Every "white" has an undertone and with every undertone there is a feeling that will attach it's self to that undertone. White then bounces light off of it's self continually. Therefore, if the space is all white, the light never stops moving. Color is a fantastic way to create calm, inspiration, hopeful feelings and an uplifted environment in a room. The backsplash in this bathroom is a 4x12 antiqued subway. The countertop is a porcelain, Laminam product. Laminam rarely splits at install due to the way the product is made. As long as you hire the correct porcelain countertop installer, Laminam countertops are a home run and handle abuse well. Rustic pendants were installed to create texture in the space. 18x24 porcelain tiles flow throughout the bathroom to decrease in the grout lines.

Patrice's Bathroom. I enjoyed developing the details of the tub platform extending through the frameless glass and becoming the shower seat.I had hoped that the tile in the shower would have extended out of the shower and become the backsplash, but that part of the design was not developed at Halpern Architects.
One of the challenges of doing an Extreme Makeover house is developing details that can be field assembled quickly. In this case, working with Nationwide Homes, the modular home company that built "The boxes", a range of details were developed to make things easier. The tub and surround was installed By Nationwide. To facilitate connections and service without the visual or technical complications of an access panel, access was provided from below.
Throughout the design process, I had insisted that all of the plumbing, mechanical and electrical connections occur in the crawlspace, allowing the work to continue without crowding the interior of the house.
Many of the time saving details were worked out through a great working relationship between Fusion Custom Homes, who was the general contractor, Nationwide Homes, who was the modular home manufacturer, and Halpern Architects. The crawlspace was constructed taller than usual with nearly full standing headroom and a full height access door was provided from the exterior, allowing workman to come and go at will, without having to enter the house. This also allowed multiple trades to stock the job and work at the same time.

Newer bathroom remodels are doing away with platform tubs based on the amount of space they take up in a bathroom. Here we were able to fit both a shower stall and tub. On an unexpected note, we did away with traditional wood baseboard and continued the tile up the wall to the baseboard line for a clean-lined look.
