The client's love for travel and a shared vision for a space that grows with their child guided the creative process, transforming the room into a haven of warmth, comfort, and character. ​ The journey began with the selection of a twin-size daybed in off-white, a transitional piece that resonates with the room's flexibility. Perfect for lounging or sleepovers, this piece stands ready to evolve into a bed when the time is right. The side table, equipped with a handy charging port, offers the dual function of storage now and a nightstand later, reflecting the room's readiness to adapt to its occupant's changing needs. ​ Adding to the room's multifunctionality, the chosen console table can either grace the space in simplicity or rotate into an L-shaped desk. From craft time to study hours, it's a piece that speaks to the creativity and growth of the child. Paired with a velvet-upholstered chair, a fashionable yet unobtrusive addition, it brings a contrasting pop of color to balance the room's light palette. ​ The leather lounge chair and globe pouf introduce a casual feel, enhancing the room's welcoming ambiance. Inspired by the family's months-long travel experience, the global-themed pouf stands as a tangible reminder of adventures shared and the world waiting to be explored. ​ With the final touch of a well-positioned bookcase at the foot of the daybed sofa, organization and accessibility became part of the room's charm. The careful addition of lighting with gold, white, and rattan elements, along with a uniquely textured blue rug, brings the design together in a harmonious blend of style and personality. ​ This project, situated in one of New York's most vibrant neighborhoods, was more than just a room transformation; it was a labor of love. Welcome to Greene County Sustainable Retreat Home, an embodiment of rustic abstraction in a sustainable package. Constructed from natural wood with a pool area, the house blends contemporary design with earthy palettes. Sunrays grace the intensely detailed structure, creating a tranquil play of light and shadow. The outdoor section features reclaimed wood walls, weathered materials, and an iridescent multilayered theme that exudes rustic charm and cottagepunk aesthetics. The large pool deck offers an expansive space with subtle color gradations and graphic symmetrical patterns. Marrying rustic abstraction with poolcore style, this home is a harmonious symphony of sustainable design and rustic charm.

This house was a very small mid-century bungalow with previous additions that resulted in a large but chaotic layout. The owners wanted to convert the house to a super-efficient, and charming Craftsman-style, 6 bedroom home for their large family and work at home. We achieved the space needs by moving a few walls for a more efficient, organized layout, setting up spaces for overlapping uses, and making a small upstairs addition. Every bit of square footage was optimized to meet the goals of the project without making the house huge or adding unnecessary cost. Much thought was given to the entry sequence near the front door. A large flow-through mudroom with storage for each family member, and adjacent laundry, make it easy for children to be taught to keep their things organized and to contribute to household chores. A mail station and central home admin area at the mudroom help keep clutter down at other areas and minimize home management tasks. A garage door near the kitchen gives quick access to bulk items. The existing house had too much view to the street from the living room through large corner windows, and too little entry transition, to the extent that the family did not feel comfortable using the living room much without shades drawn. We raised the window sills and brought the new windows in from the corner of the house, allowing plenty of light while protecting privacy and a sense of enclosure in the living room. We enlarged the front porch to create a more graceful transition from the public to private space. We located the front door so that the circulation from entry into the house would allow for furnishing the living room with a sitting circle that is not intruded upon by people walking through the room. Sight lines through the living spaces were an important consideration in the design. The owners wanted discreet spaces for living room, kitchen, dining and family room, but also wanted the living spaces to feel connected and to be able to easily watch their children. Being able to see the children playing in the yard while getting things done inside the house was also important. While largely working with the existing structure, we opened walls and rearranged the use of spaces to make a series of connected living spaces with long views through them. The character of the remodeled house is a contemporary Craftsman with classic materials and cool, consistent colors. The goal of this landscape renovation was easy outdoor entertaining with a variety of programmatic elements gracefully arranged in a small space. A Parisian escape--no passport required! French country style is infused at every level of this beachside condo, from floor to ceiling. From the European oak that graces the floors to the reimagined antiques that fill the sunlit rooms, each detail evokes French country charm: playful patterns, vintage posters, and artisan touches lead you to imagine you're on the other side of the ocean you see sparkling right outside!

The goal for this 1939 Tudor-style story-and-a-half home was to create a kitchen that offered the conveniences, storage, and performance of a modern workspace while preserving the warmth, craftsmanship, and vintage charm that made the home special. The client, an avid home cook, wanted the room to feel as though it had always belonged to the house, with thoughtful upgrades that respected the original architecture rather than competing with it. Just as important, she needed a more efficient layout with enough storage for small appliances, so everyday cooking would no longer require carrying items up from the lower level. Several existing conditions shaped the design approach. The kitchen retained original, amber-stained birch woodwork that the client wished to keep, and the compact footprint was interrupted by six doorways and two windows, none of which were to be moved, altered, or replaced. A previous flooring update had left the door casings undercut too short, creating visible gaps where the casing met the floor. The existing vintage 40-inch range also lacked proper ventilation, yet the client wished to accommodate a refrigerator, dishwasher, cooktop, double ovens, built-in microwave, and effective venting above the cooktop into the new kitchen layout. To honor the original millwork, beaded inset-style cherry cabinetry was selected in a soft, hand-rubbed finish that will deepen over time and develop a natural patina. Charcoal-gray soapstone countertops complement the cabinetry while reinforcing the historic character of the home with an organic, timeworn texture. The former breakfast nook was transformed into a butler’s pantry, adding valuable base cabinet storage and expanded work surfaces for frequently used small appliances. Also in the butler’s pantry, a single upper cabinet was paired with open shelves to give an open, airy feeling while adding character and practical storage. A classic single-bowl apron-front workstation sink contributes both period-appropriate character and practical prep and cleanup function. Because the home’s openings were such a defining feature, the design worked within the existing architecture instead of altering it. Custom plinth blocks were created for each doorway to extend the original casing gracefully down to the new natural red oak flooring, resolving the earlier construction issue while adding a detail that feels authentic to the age of the house. Despite the number of door and window openings, the new layout provides a significantly more functional, built-in kitchen with an improved work triangle for serious cooking. Appliance placement was carefully planned to deliver the requested performance without overwhelming the small room. Three cooking functions (double ovens & microwave) were consolidated into one location with a GE Café double oven featuring Advantium Technology, while the client’s compact 31-inch refrigerator was reused to preserve space. A sleek 30-inch induction cooktop provides efficient cooking, and a Vent-A-Hood ARS ductless vent hood supplies needed ventilation without requiring a duct run to the exterior. The finish palette balances richness, texture, and historical sensitivity. A deeply textured navy backsplash tile adds depth and dramatic shadow play against the soapstone, while wallpaper in the back entry echoes the tile’s geometric pattern to visually connect the adjoining spaces. Oil-rubbed bronze cabinet hardware and light fixtures enhance the warmth of the cherry cabinetry and complete the antique-inspired feel. Lighting was layered to make the compact kitchen brighter, more useful, and more inviting. Vintage-style semi-flush ceiling fixtures establish the overall tone, while dimmable puck lights highlight select areas and undercabinet task lighting keeps work surfaces well illuminated. The completed kitchen now feels both highly functional and deeply rooted in the home’s history. Rich cherry cabinetry, velvety soapstone, natural red oak flooring, navy tile, bronze accents, and carefully preserved birch trim work together to create a warm, cohesive space that celebrates timeless craftsmanship. By increasing storage, improving workflow, integrating modern appliances, and respecting the Tudor home’s original character, the design achieves the client’s vision: a kitchen that feels personal, practical, historically appropriate, and as though it has always been there.

The warm tones of each play off one another and come alive in the sunlight, while the alternating basketweave layout of the slats offer even more visual interest as well as variation in the provided shade. The design concept was carefully planned to ensure the purlins fit snugly into the channel, cleverly concealing any visible fasteners. This attention to detail adds to the sleek and streamlined appearance of the pergola, elevating its visual appeal and rustic elegance. Working in Harmony with Nature One of the most remarkable aspects of this project is how the pergola and the clam shell-colored Trex deck were thoughtfully designed to complement and highlight the existing large red oak tree. Rather than overshadowing or competing with its natural beauty, the design gracefully worked around the tree, creating a harmonious coexistence between human craftsmanship and nature's elegance. Mid-Century Modern Charm with an Artful Twist While the overall design of the space exudes mid-century modern aesthetics, what truly makes this project stand out is the clients' unique and artful taste. Their personal touch can be seen in the selection of decor, furniture, and subtle embellishments that add character and personality to the space. Tradition meets today in this pared-down classic. The enduring charm of inset cabinetry is combined with double-door wall cabinets, a graceful ogee profile, and recessed panel doors to recall vintage style. The color scheme establishes the light / dark theme: white perimeter cabinets support honed “Jet Mist” granite tops, while the black paneled island features 2” thick marble-like quartz. Antique bin pulls are reinterpreted here with an updated square silhouette and repeat the brass accents on the knobs and island pendant trims. Continuing the nostalgia is the timeless apron-front “farmhouse” sink. Handmade subway tiles yield understated depth to the backsplash. Holding the place of honor over the range is a mosaic of stylized houndstooth echoing the neutral palette. That pattern is playfully reiterated in the pillows on the paneled banquette. Contemporary touches are found in the cheerful red cushion, double tripod table base, and the simple brass-lined dome pendant. Adjacent to the kitchen is a dramatic black wet bar whose Gothic mullion doors reflect the curve of the demilune base cabinet. The focal point is another mosaic backsplash, here with a diamond motif. Mixed metals make a statement with a satin nickel faucet, hammered nickel bar sink, and brass decorative hardware. Positioned strategically, a 43" LG 4k TV graces the wall, with integrated Philips Hue lighting behind it casting a soft, ambient glow. Flanked by custom ebony veneer columns, this entertainment hub seamlessly combines modern technology with bespoke craftsmanship, creating a visual spectacle that enhances both work and leisure moments. Lighting plays a pivotal role in setting the ambiance. Recessed square LED lights illuminate the space, while two incandescent wall sconces add a touch of warmth. All of this is seamlessly orchestrated through Lutron Caseta WiFi switches, allowing me to curate the perfect lighting atmosphere for any occasion. Functionality meets aesthetics with Merillat cabinetry thoughtfully integrated into the design. These cabinets discreetly store away office supplies and materials, maintaining a clutter-free environment conducive to focus and creativity. The ebony veneer theme extends to the custom columns, creating a visual harmony throughout the space. The pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the standing desk, a marvel of modern design and functionality. Its programmable feature allows for up to four memorized heights, catering to my ergonomic preferences throughout the workday. This dynamic element not only promotes a healthier work lifestyle but also symbolizes the adaptability and innovation that define my approach to interior design. In this carefully curated home office, every detail tells a story, and every element serves a purpose. The centerpiece of this luxurious kitchen is the stunning Dekton Natura Gloss backsplash, a masterpiece in itself. Its glossy surface reflects light effortlessly, creating an ethereal ambiance that enchants all who enter. The backsplash's subtle veining adds depth and character, elevating the visual appeal to new heights. The goal for this 1939 Tudor-style story-and-a-half home was to create a kitchen that offered the conveniences, storage, and performance of a modern workspace while preserving the warmth, craftsmanship, and vintage charm that made the home special. The client, an avid home cook, wanted the room to feel as though it had always belonged to the house, with thoughtful upgrades that respected the original architecture rather than competing with it. Just as important, she needed a more efficient layout with enough storage for small appliances, so everyday cooking would no longer require carrying items up from the lower level. Several existing conditions shaped the design approach. The kitchen retained original, amber-stained birch woodwork that the client wished to keep, and the compact footprint was interrupted by six doorways and two windows, none of which were to be moved, altered, or replaced. A previous flooring update had left the door casings undercut too short, creating visible gaps where the casing met the floor. The existing vintage 40-inch range also lacked proper ventilation, yet the client wished to accommodate a refrigerator, dishwasher, cooktop, double ovens, built-in microwave, and effective venting above the cooktop into the new kitchen layout. To honor the original millwork, beaded inset-style cherry cabinetry was selected in a soft, hand-rubbed finish that will deepen over time and develop a natural patina. Charcoal-gray soapstone countertops complement the cabinetry while reinforcing the historic character of the home with an organic, timeworn texture. The former breakfast nook was transformed into a butler’s pantry, adding valuable base cabinet storage and expanded work surfaces for frequently used small appliances. Also in the butler’s pantry, a single upper cabinet was paired with open shelves to give an open, airy feeling while adding character and practical storage. A classic single-bowl apron-front workstation sink contributes both period-appropriate character and practical prep and cleanup function. Because the home’s openings were such a defining feature, the design worked within the existing architecture instead of altering it. Custom plinth blocks were created for each doorway to extend the original casing gracefully down to the new natural red oak flooring, resolving the earlier construction issue while adding a detail that feels authentic to the age of the house. Despite the number of door and window openings, the new layout provides a significantly more functional, built-in kitchen with an improved work triangle for serious cooking. Appliance placement was carefully planned to deliver the requested performance without overwhelming the small room. Three cooking functions (double ovens & microwave) were consolidated into one location with a GE Café double oven featuring Advantium Technology, while the client’s compact 31-inch refrigerator was reused to preserve space. A sleek 30-inch induction cooktop provides efficient cooking, and a Vent-A-Hood ARS ductless vent hood supplies needed ventilation without requiring a duct run to the exterior. The finish palette balances richness, texture, and historical sensitivity. A deeply textured navy backsplash tile adds depth and dramatic shadow play against the soapstone, while wallpaper in the back entry echoes the tile’s geometric pattern to visually connect the adjoining spaces. Oil-rubbed bronze cabinet hardware and light fixtures enhance the warmth of the cherry cabinetry and complete the antique-inspired feel. Lighting was layered to make the compact kitchen brighter, more useful, and more inviting. Vintage-style semi-flush ceiling fixtures establish the overall tone, while dimmable puck lights highlight select areas and undercabinet task lighting keeps work surfaces well illuminated. The completed kitchen now feels both highly functional and deeply rooted in the home’s history. Rich cherry cabinetry, velvety soapstone, natural red oak flooring, navy tile, bronze accents, and carefully preserved birch trim work together to create a warm, cohesive space that celebrates timeless craftsmanship. By increasing storage, improving workflow, integrating modern appliances, and respecting the Tudor home’s original character, the design achieves the client’s vision: a kitchen that feels personal, practical, historically appropriate, and as though it has always been there.
