Within this comfortably cozy mountain retreat filled with natural light, Siemasko + Verbridge has created a space ideal for entertaining and showcasing the surrounding mountain views. Located in Sugarbush, Vermont, a refined alpine style creates a relaxed and inviting environment. Reclaimed beams and earthy materials emit a feeling of warmth throughout the condo and the fireplace, faced with local Vermont stone, is perfect for curling up in front of after outdoor adventures. The team drew inspiration from the condo’s slope-side setting, infusing the space with playful reminders of the wilderness outdoors: stag print pillows, snowflakes on the dining chairs and skiing scenes depicted on the walls as you head upstairs. Siemasko +Verbridge’s family-friendly design accommodates ample space for gear and ski storage, durable fabrics and easy-to-maintain furnishings. Coarser textiles such as antler chandeliers are balanced with softer materials like nubby pillows and knit throws providing an interesting juxtaposition of textural elements. The landscape design for this property in an established New York City suburb marries stately elegance with relaxed outdoor living. The greatest challenge of the site was a considerable grade change over a small area (a third of an acre). We replaced overgrown shrubs and crumbling stonework with a clean hardscape design that clearly defines the flow around the property. A long play lawn in front is linked to a sideyard patio space and natural-gas campfire with broad bluestone block steps. A cozy dining terrace behind the house is hugged by a retaining wall that showcases friendly flowering plants and edibles. Set into the terrace wall is a custom water feature that brings sound and movement to the seating area. Exposed ledge in the backyard provides a fun playspace for adventurous kids, with a rope bridge leading to a playhouse.

This 600-square-foot custom treehouse was designed to be more than a backyard feature — it’s a fully immersive experience built for adventure, connection, and year-round enjoyment. Nestled among mature pines, the multi-level structure weaves seamlessly between the trees, creating distinct zones for play, relaxation, and gathering. A rope ladder and traditional access points offer a sense of adventure on arrival, while three swings and seven strategically placed hammocks invite everything from quiet afternoon naps to lively family fun. The upper platform features a greenhouse-style enclosure, providing a sheltered space to relax regardless of weather. With built-in seating and panoramic forest views, it functions as a cozy hangout spot for morning coffee, evening conversations, or stargazing under string lights. The lower levels transform into a playful retreat, complete with a slide for quick descents and an under-deck ninja course designed to challenge agility and imagination. Every element was intentionally designed to balance durability with creativity, ensuring the structure is both safe and built to last. Architectural details — including integrated framing around existing trees and carefully planned load distribution — allow the treehouse to feel organic to its setting while maintaining structural integrity. This project reflects Hillview Custom Renovations’ belief that outdoor spaces can be just as meaningful as interiors. By combining craftsmanship, thoughtful engineering, and a sense of wonder, this elevated retreat delivers unforgettable moments for kids and adults alike.

For two active elementary-school-aged kids who love to climb, this playroom has everything they need! In a 14 x 12-foot space, we transformed a cluttered closet into a cozy indoor playhouse, while adding two climbing walls, a climbing rope and a trapeze for extra adventure. The room now offers plenty of space for climbing, swinging, and imaginative play. As the mom put it, “We always talked about creating a playroom but didn’t think we had the room. After our first meeting with Wild Child, I saw that it was possible. They took a weird space, helped organize it, and created a room that our kids basically live in now.” This playroom has quickly become the go-to spot for the kids (as well as all the neighborhood kids!), thanks to a design that blends fun, adventure, and functionality!

THEME Inspired by the Magic Tree House series of children’s books, this indoor tree house provides entertainment, fun and a place for children to read about or imagine adventures through time. A blue sky, green meadows, and distant matching beech trees recreate the magic of Jack and Annie’s Frog Creek, and help bring the characters from the series to life. FOCUS A floor armoire, ceiling swing and climbing rope give the structure a true tree house look and feel. A drop-down drawing and writing table, wheeled work table and recessed ceiling lights ensure the room can be used for more than play. The tree house has electric interior lighting, a window to the outdoors and a playful sliding shutter over a window to the room. The armoire forms a raised, nine-foot-wide play area, while a TV within one of the wall’s floor-to-ceiling cabinets — with a delightful sliding ladder — transforms the room into a family theater perfect for watching movies and holding Wii competitions. STORAGE The bottom of the drawing table is a magnetic chalk board that doubles as a display for children’s art works. The tree’s small niches are for parents’ shoes; the larger compartment stores children’s shoes and school bags. Books, games, toys, DVDs, Wii and other computer accessories are stored in the wall cabinets. The armoire contains two spacious drawers and four nifty hinged storage bins. A rack of handy “vegetable buckets” above the armoire stores crayons, scissors and other useful items. GROWTH The room easily adapts from playroom, to party room, to study room and even to bedroom, as the tree house easily accommodates a twin-size mattress. SAFETY The rungs and rails of the ladder, as well as the grab bars beside the tree house door are wrapped with easy-grip rope for safe climbing. The drawing table has spring-loaded hinges to help prevent it from dropping dangerously from the wall, and the table door has double sets of locks up top to ensure safety. The interior of each storage compartment is carpeted like the tree house floor to provide extra padding.

A family with five energetic kids and a rambling new bloodhound pooch needed a better connection to the outdoors in their terraced hillside home, overlooking the historic Mountain View Cemetery. The steep and disconnected terraces made life outdoors feel miles away. The clients expressed to us that when they thought about going outside, they often didn’t. Now, more functional stairs with generous pauses make a multi-story journey to the backyard easy to do every day. And their tall house and hillside are more integrated with playful twists, turns, and swings that invite the kids (and pup) out to play.
