Designed for a family with four children, this kitchen required tons of practicality, including a massive island with plenty of comfortable seating. But function certainly did not trump form in the final product. Our client is European and wanted a sleek, modern aesthetic. Working with taller than standard bases, full height doors and a handsome mix of dark rift cut veneer and white slab doors on the perimeter, the end result is a striking statement that manages to be clean and tailored without lacking warmth and soul.

Claremont Dream Home
A Single Family New Construction
Chicago, Illinois
Type: New Construction
Location: Ravenswood Neighborhood, Chicago, IL
We had the pleasure of collaborating with a young family to shape their vision of a welcoming, laid-back home in this new construction home. AHD was hired at the early stages of construction to create a cohesive environment from the architectural finishes, lighting design to the furnishings and decor.
This project is a testament to the couple's diverse cultural influences, blending their English heritage with the rich tapestry of their travels through India. Through thoughtful design choices, we've sought to create an environment that not only reflects their personal style but also accommodates their evolving family needs.
Our focus has been on crafting a contemporary interior that prioritizes both comfort and durability, ensuring that every aspect of the space is not only inviting but also functional for their growing family. We selected bespoke furnishings, where craftsmanship takes center stage. Each piece was carefully curated to embody an organic biophilic aesthetic, creating a refreshing haven using earthy colors and genuine materials.
Our ultimate design intent was to create a space that is healthy, practical as well as aesthetically pleasing, tailored to the lifestyle and preferences of our clients.

Here are some practical tips for creating a beautiful, comfortable and thoughtful living room design.
The living room in the house is the place where, as the name suggests, receives guests. However, the owners themselves relax here, spending time in front of the TV or a book, with drinks, pleasant conversation and other activities. Therefore, the living room should be the most comfortable place in your home.
The place of the sofa in the design of the living room
The sofa does not need to be placed in a draft. This means that it should not be on an imaginary line from window to door - if you drew a floor plan, it will just be easy to trace.
1. The sofa in front of the TV, diagonally from the door, is a great location. As if inviting you to sit down :)
2. Sofa near the door. A good solution if you often have overnight guests.
3. Corner sofa in the living room. Best placed in the farthest corner from the door. This will make the room look more spacious.
Correct opening of the door in the living room. Inward or outward?
Open inward or outward? There is no clear rule here, because everything depends on the layout and on the furniture placed. The main thing is that the door leaf opens freely and does not interfere with entering and exiting the room. Also, the door should not interfere with free access to the closet or dressing room.
TV in living room size and location. Location.
The TV is placed on the wall opposite to the sofa - this is the most logical and reasonable place for it in the living room. Moreover, the distance to it does not really matter: modern TV models can be placed close to the sofa.
Cabinet or bracket? To your taste. The main thing is that the television zone looks neat and presentable. Provide in advance a cable channel in which all the wires and numerous sockets for the receiver, modem, set-top box, sound bar will hide. Nothing spoils a design like sticking wires!
Height from the floor. It is optimal to place the TV 1 m from the floor to the middle of the screen - this is exactly the level of the eyes of a seated person.
Diagonal size. If there is a financial opportunity, consider options from 50 inches - smaller screens look lonely and lonely on an empty wall.
Living room furniture.
Armchair. Often the chair becomes an accent item in the interior, then its shade, and sometimes its shape, differ from the rest of the furniture. When choosing a chair, be guided also by your habits: for example, it will be more convenient to climb up with your feet and read a book in an armchair with dimensions of 90x90 cm, and you can “just sit comfortably” in a fireplace chair with a high back, comfortable armrests and with a seat 80x80 cm.
TV stand. Large TV stands are no longer as relevant as they used to be, when it was necessary to store a player, cassettes and discs there. For now, a console table or a narrow elegant pedestal is enough.
Coffee table. Nice piece of furniture that creates a cozy atmosphere. Some models, if necessary, can be transformed into a more spacious table for receiving guests - however, finding comfortable and beautiful specimens is not easy, plus they usually cost a lot.
Rack. An extremely useful type of furniture. :) Firstly, a large number of decor items can be beautifully placed on the rack. And secondly, it can also play the role of a light through partition, which divides the room into zones and does not select light at the same time. This is a very big plus for small apartments.
Fireplace. Here we are talking about electric fireplaces. Some of them come with a humidifier and heated, so 3-in-1 models can be very helpful. Fireplace portals have different styles: classic, antique, modern. Inconsistency with the general style of the living room can greatly spoil the impression of the room, so be careful with creativity. Sizing is an important issue. A large wall with a high ceiling also needs a proportionate fireplace; in horror, a small portal will look lonely and ridiculous.

Bringing Nature Indoors Potted grasses are an excellent way to infuse a touch of nature into your home decor. Unlike live plants, artificial potted grass requires minimal maintenance while still providing vibrant greenery. They can easily enhance any room, turning a bare corner into a lively focal point. With designs like artificial pampas grass, brands such as Longjin Craft offer a range of options that mimic the ethereal beauty of natural flora. These faux plants not only look stunning but also stand the test of time, ensuring your home remains beautiful without the hassle of regular care. Versatile Home Decor Options One of the most appealing aspects of indoor artificial potted grasses is their versatility. Whether you’re aiming for a modern aesthetic or a more rustic vibe, there’s a fake potted grass option suitable for every taste. Tall grasses can add height to your decor, while shorter versions fit perfectly on shelves or tabletops. The aesthetic possibilities are endless; you can mix different types of artificial grasses for a more textured look. This creative freedom allows you to personalize your decor in a way that might be harder to achieve with live plants, which often come with their own growth limitations. Ideal for Any Environment Artificial potted grass is perfect for various settings, from homes to offices. In workspaces, they can provide an element of tranquility amidst busy schedules. Moreover, they are an excellent choice for individuals who may have allergies or pets that could interact poorly with natural plants. Longjin Craft’s artificial varieties are designed to withstand various indoor conditions and maintain their allure without fading over time. This makes them an ideal choice for those seeking stylish yet practical decor solutions. Whether you’re hosting a gathering or enjoying a quiet evening at home, these faux plants charm any space effortlessly. The client’s vision was to create a cohesive look through out their entire home, from the front entry through to the living space.
The exisiting home had great potential but didn’t showcase any of the owners personality. The decor was mismatched, there was no specific interior style or colour palette.
To breath life into the exisiting spaces an earthy colour palette was introduced. To showcase the families love of travel and mid century style a gallery wall was created in the entry and mid century furniture introduced which set the tone for the entire home.
To create a practical yet stylish space attention special attention was paid to type of furniture and decor chosen and the way in which the space flowed.
The end result is a stylish and contemporary family home that reflects the interior style of the owners and what they love most.

This disappearing waterfalls project included installation of a pondless water feature measuring roughly 15′ long. The meandering stream and waterfalls disappear into an underground holding basin. This system circulates water from the basin throughout the decorative feature and practically maintains itself.
Disappearing waterfalls are the perfect solution to house the tranquil sound of water with beautiful flowing falls without a pond. If you love the idea of waterfalls in your yard but have no interest in aquatic animals this type of feature is for you. Size and shape of these water features can be completely customized to almost any size, location, and even budget.
