This project started out as a brand new Great Room addition. The design started with the sectional couch and quickly moved to the rug; the focal points of the space. Both are kid friendly yet bring a laid back California sophistication to the room; perfect for both everyday living and entertaining guests. With lots of privacy outside, we decided to forgo any drapery, and as such, the space exudes freshness and openness. Experimenting with different textures, poofs and lamps add a level of warmth to balance out and add depth to the Southern California coolness. With a focus on a welcoming aesthetic, this mini oasis reflects the family's unique style while prioritizing comfort and practicality.

Claremont Dream Home A Single Family New Construction Chicago, Illinois ​ Type: New Construction Location: Ravenswood Neighborhood, Chicago, IL ​ We had the pleasure of collaborating with a young family to shape their vision of a welcoming, laid-back home in this new construction home. AHD was hired at the early stages of construction to create a cohesive environment from the architectural finishes, lighting design to the furnishings and decor. ​ This project is a testament to the couple's diverse cultural influences, blending their English heritage with the rich tapestry of their travels through India. Through thoughtful design choices, we've sought to create an environment that not only reflects their personal style but also accommodates their evolving family needs. ​ Our focus has been on crafting a contemporary interior that prioritizes both comfort and durability, ensuring that every aspect of the space is not only inviting but also functional for their growing family. We selected bespoke furnishings, where craftsmanship takes center stage. Each piece was carefully curated to embody an organic biophilic aesthetic, creating a refreshing haven using earthy colors and genuine materials. ​ Our ultimate design intent was to create a space that is healthy, practical as well as aesthetically pleasing, tailored to the lifestyle and preferences of our clients.

Maceo May is the first residenital and 100% affordable housing development on Treasure Island in San Fransciso Bay. The buiding is a six-story, all-electric modular construction affordable housing project with 104 homes for formerly homeless veterans and their families. The apartment building offers 1 on-site manager’s unit and a mix of 24 studio, 47 one-bedroom and 34 two-bedroom units. Net zero capable, Maceo May features custom Series 6000 windows from All Weather Architectural Aluminum to maximize energy efficiency. Passive design strategies and superior ventilation also limit energy use, create good air quality, and support the thermal comfort of residents. The operable All Weather Series 6000 windows are oriented to take advantage of San Francisco Bay breezes. Amenities include residential services, property management offices, a community room, shared laundry room, parking, bicycle storage, common outdoor areas, a forested healing garden, a playground, and a roof deck. Pursuing Fitwell certification, Maceo May emphasizes social cohesion and wellness with active design principles within the building to connect residents to each other. On track to earn a GreenPoint Gold certification, the project prioritizes resilience and sustainability by utilizing durable materials designed to withstand natural disasters and the effects of climate change.

This Parkville, MO basement remodel transforms an unfinished lower level into a clean, modern space designed to support everyday living and grow with the family. Guided by a simple and intentional aesthetic, the layout was designed to create distinct yet connected zones within an open-concept plan. A dedicated media area accommodates multiple screens, while adjacent spaces provide room for active play and a functional workout zone with space for weights and equipment. A wet bar positioned just off the main living area adds convenience for entertaining without interrupting the flow of the space. Throughout the design, durability and organization were prioritized to ensure the basement functions effortlessly for daily use. Even the bathroom was treated as a design opportunity, incorporating a unique feature that brings personality and character to the lower level. The result is a bright, flexible extension of the home that feels cohesive, highly functional, and built to evolve with the family over time.

Our client sought to modernize their classic 1970s home while preserving its original charm. This full-home renovation prioritized openness and functionality. We transformed the kitchen into a bright, welcoming space, leveled the sunken living room to expand the living area, and designed seamless indoor-outdoor connections to showcase breathtaking south-west facing golf course & ocean views. The result? A beautifully updated home that harmonizes mid-century character with contemporary comfort. The architecture was fun to work with, featuring dramatic roof pitches, a striking two-story double-sided fireplace, and thoughtfully designed room-to-room connections. Strategic wall cutouts and varying floor levels added interest and character, making this home a truly unique and dynamic space. Reimagining an Urban Classic Perched high above San Francisco’s Cow Hollow neighborhood, this meticulously reimagined residence represents a thoughtful transformation of a classic urban home into a contemporary, light-filled sanctuary. With a focus on public spaces, we nearly all forget to prioritize our own personal space, which ends up being our bedrooms. For this project – a master bedroom, our client lovingly made it a priority, requesting that we help them feel great there. That should always be the goal of any space – period. But for a master bed, good design adds tenderness to that feeling. By opening up the space and brightening it with a beautiful color palette of grays, linens, whites and blues, this room now feels calm and well-tended to. A large upholstered king bed, keeps pace with the room’s proportions and provides comfort to any type of sleeper. Two pairs of large euro shams, allow for an endless array of comfortable positioning regardless of personal preference and a custom built in, keeps a television put away when not in use. Scaled to directionalize the room, the built in gathers favorite things and provides endless storage for blankets or extra clothing. I added a broad set of French doors, to ensure ready access to the outside deck, which sits stunningly on the lake. Now bright and in tune with the architecture, the inside outside connection is beautifully highlighted. Custom window panels and shade, give this room its personality and play to my strong sense of color and pattern mixing and a low chaise, gives a reader another cozy place for a nap. Ultimately personalized to reflect a happy and relaxed space, this master bedroom is ready to make anyone feel really at home.

Nestled in the heart of Boulder, this 1950s ranch home was thoughtfully transformed to embrace modern living while honoring the charm and character of the neighborhood. The client wished for their home to become a place of gathering and community. This design embraces the open-concept floor plan by dissolving boundaries and encouraging organic interactions between the spaces within the home and with the surrounding landscape. At the heart of this transformation stands a strategically positioned wood-burning stove, which can be enjoyed from the dining or living areas, perfect for cozy winter nights. The kitchen dining space emerges as the vibrant epicenter of this family-friendly home with a fluid transition to the patio and garden. Vaulted ceilings accentuated with skylights illuminate the space with natural light, creating an airy, expansive feel; while the French oak flooring introduces a touch of grounding warmth and nature. The bedroom wing, intentionally secluded, offers an intimate sanctuary. En-suite bathrooms feature hints of luxury, including a steam shower and a soaking tub, elevating the space for an indulgent spa experience. Completed in 2015, the Othello House was designed by PRDG Architecture + Design and built by Better Builders as a striking example of modern living in West Seattle. Though the homeowners chose not to pursue formal certification, the project was built to meet the rigorous standards of a Five-Star Built Green™ home. From the ground up, sustainability and style were equally prioritized. The build preserved native vegetation, retained mature trees on-site, exceeded Washington State Energy Code requirements, and recycled over 70% of construction waste by weight. Recycled-content materials were thoughtfully incorporated throughout, reinforcing the home’s eco-conscious foundation. Large windows on all sides flood the interiors with natural light, while the surrounding landscaping is designed to highlight lush greenery and native plantings. The result is a home that combines premium modern design with environmental responsibility—proving that sustainable construction can also deliver the ultimate in comfort and function.
