This beautiful Carlsbad kitchen remodel strikes a perfect balance of being light and bright while feeling warm and inviting with the mix of wood tones. While large in size, the original kitchen lacked functionality, so the design of the space had to address several key concerns for the homeowners who are both avid home chefs.
One of the key focal points was designing an island that would provide ample prep space while also serving as a gathering spot for the family. Additionally, utilizing a different wood finish for the island - in this case walnut - enhanced the custom look and feel of the space. Drawers were selected for storage as opposed to traditional cabinets in the island, while elegant brass pulls complete the look.
For the cabinetry around the perimeter of the kitchen, a creamy white finish was selected with glass front upper cabinets illuminated along the top - the perfect spot for displaying family mementos.
Special attention was paid to properly space planning the kitchen to ensure that there was ample space for the refrigerator, pantry door, and oven to open comfortably - an issue that had plagued the original design.
Top of the line appliances from SubZero and Wolf were selected to complete the client’s wish for a kitchen with all of the culinary bells and whistles.

That's correct! The depth of the window seal is an important factor to consider when measuring for zebra roller blinds. Inside mount is ideal when you have at least 2 inches of depth in your window seal, as this will give a clean and streamlined look. If you don't have enough depth, an outside mount is the better option, as it can help balance the room and cover outdated millwork.
In addition to the depth, you also need to consider the type of zebra roller blind you want. If you want manual zebra roller blinds with a cord, you need to add ¾ inch on the edges. For cordless zebra roller blinds, you need to add 1 inch to the edges for an outside mount. This will provide better coverage and give you more options for mounting the blinds.
Remember, taking accurate measurements is crucial to ensure the proper fit and function of your zebra roller blinds. Consider the depth of the window seal, the type of zebra roller blind you want, and the desired look when measuring the windows. Following these guidelines will help ensure that your zebra roller blinds look great and function properly for years to come.

Fiberon composite decking in Horizon Ipe was selected as the main deck color, complemented by a darker Rosewood border. The home owner chose low-maintenance, white Horizon composite railing to replace their worn-out wood railing. Adding round, black metal balusters (and spacing them properly) enables a better view into the yard and eliminates the “prison bar” effect.

Inspiration for a large timeless backyard concrete and kidney-shaped hot tub remodel in Chicago

Studio 1200 partnered with this family as they looked at numerous old houses in their search for the perfect home to settle into with their young family. Our client’s wish list included a 3-car garage and a nice kitchen with lots of light and space for two microwaves. In 2011, they purchased a 1950’s Center Hall Colonial that had good bones, but had not been well maintained. To help create their dream home, we gutted the existing house, designed multiple additions, and reorganized the existing spaces so that the house worked properly for them as a family. We also selected all of the interior finishes and worked with the owners on selecting all of the decorative lighting.
The biggest structural change included reconfiguring the main stair in order to create a more gracious two-story front entry hall. In the existing conditions, the stair protruded into the living room on teh first floor and left a tiny hallway on the second floor.
The entire renovation included a master suite with three additional bedrooms and two baths, a home office and laundry on the second floor; living room, dining room, bar, kitchen, family room, mudroom, and 3-car garage on the first floor; and a comfortable family room, gym, full bathroom, bar, and storage space in the basement.
The exterior improvements included new siding, windows, roofing, a new portico, and dormers. The patio and landscaping remain a work in progress.

As an Interior Designer in Cincinnati, Ohio, I specialize in luxury outdoor living design, outdoor furniture planning, color palettes, material selections, and collaboration with Werbrich Custom Outdoor Living throughout the Cincinnati Tri-State area.

KitchenLab Interiors’ first, entirely new construction project in collaboration with GTH architects who designed the residence. KLI was responsible for all interior finishes, fixtures, furnishings, and design including the stairs, casework, interior doors, moldings and millwork. KLI also worked with the client on selecting the roof, exterior stucco and paint colors, stone, windows, and doors. The homeowners had purchased the existing home on a lakefront lot of the Valley Lo community in Glenview, thinking that it would be a gut renovation, but when they discovered a host of issues including mold, they decided to tear it down and start from scratch. The minute you look out the living room windows, you feel as though you're on a lakeside vacation in Wisconsin or Michigan. We wanted to help the homeowners achieve this feeling throughout the house - merging the causal vibe of a vacation home with the elegance desired for a primary residence. This project is unique and personal in many ways - Rebekah and the homeowner, Lorie, had grown up together in a small suburb of Columbus, Ohio. Lorie had been Rebekah's babysitter and was like an older sister growing up. They were both heavily influenced by the style of the late 70's and early 80's boho/hippy meets disco and 80's glam, and both credit their moms for an early interest in anything related to art, design, and style. One of the biggest challenges of doing a new construction project is that it takes so much longer to plan and execute and by the time tile and lighting is installed, you might be bored by the selections of feel like you've seen them everywhere already. “I really tried to pull myself, our team and the client away from the echo-chamber of Pinterest and Instagram. We fell in love with counter stools 3 years ago that I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on, thank god, because then they started showing up literally everywhere", Rebekah recalls. Lots of one of a kind vintage rugs and furnishings make the home feel less brand-spanking new. The best projects come from a team slightly outside their comfort zone. One of the funniest things Lorie says to Rebekah, "I gave you everything you wanted", which is pretty hilarious coming from a client to a designer.

This master bathroom remodel in Reston was designed around a fully custom steam shower, creating a clean and comfortable space with a spa-like feel.
The shower area was completely reworked by removing one of the existing walls and opening up the layout. We installed a frameless glass enclosure that runs to the ceiling, which is essential for proper steam retention while also making the space feel more open.
Inside the shower, the entire enclosure was tiled from floor to ceiling, including the ceiling itself. This is an important detail for steam showers, along with proper waterproofing behind the tile to ensure long-term performance.
To improve functionality, we added a built-in bench with a quartz top, along with two recessed niches for storage. The shower floor features a hexagon mosaic tile, which adds texture and provides better grip.
The material selection throughout the bathroom was kept clean and consistent. We used MSI Eden Dolomite tile in both polished and matte finishes, paired with a Bianco Dolomite accent tile on the plumbing wall and inside the niches.
The vanity area features Fabuwood Galaxy Indigo cabinets, combined with a Frost White quartz countertop and matte black hardware. This contrast helps define the space while keeping the overall look balanced.
Additional updates included new recessed lighting with dimmers, updated electrical and plumbing work, and a fresh coat of paint throughout the bathroom and closet.
The final result is a modern master bathroom centered around a fully functional steam shower, designed for both everyday use and long-term durability.

This 1950's home was in the need of an overhaul. Family of 4, they needed functional storage, easy to clean materials, and a proper master closet and bathroom. Timeless design drove the material selections and period appropriate fixtures made this house feel updated yet still fitting to the homes age. White custom cabinetry, classic tiles, mirrors and light fixtures were a perfect fit for this family. A large walk in shower, with a bench, in the new reconfigured master bathroom was an amazing transformation. All the bedrooms were outfitted with more useful storage. The master closet even got a full desk workspace with all the natural light you could ask for.
