Our client was drawn to the property in Wesley Heights as it was in an established neighborhood of stately homes, on a quiet street with views of park. They wanted a traditional home for their young family with great entertaining spaces that took full advantage of the site. The site was the challenge. The natural grade of the site was far from traditional. The natural grade at the rear of the property was about thirty feet above the street level. Large mature trees provided shade and needed to be preserved. The solution was sectional. The first floor level was elevated from the street by 12 feet, with French doors facing the park. We created a courtyard at the first floor level that provide an outdoor entertaining space, with French doors that open the home to the courtyard.. By elevating the first floor level, we were able to allow on-grade parking and a private direct entrance to the lower level pub "Mulligans". An arched passage affords access to the courtyard from a shared driveway with the neighboring homes, while the stone fountain provides a focus. A sweeping stone stair anchors one of the existing mature trees that was preserved and leads to the elevated rear garden. The second floor master suite opens to a sitting porch at the level of the upper garden, providing the third level of outdoor space that can be used for the children to play. The home's traditional language is in context with its neighbors, while the design allows each of the three primary levels of the home to relate directly to the outside. The new design includes modern amenities such as a large 'Open Plan' kitchen, a family room, a home office, an oversized garage, spacious bedrooms with large closets, a second floor laundry room and a private master bedroom suite for the owners that includes two walk-in closets and a grand master bathroom with a vaulted ceiling. The Architect presented the new design using Professional 3D Design Software. This approach allowed the Owners to clearly understand the proposed design and secondly, it was beneficial to the Contractors who prepared Preliminary Cost Estimates. The construction duration was nine months and the project was completed in September 2015. The client is thrilled with the end results! We established a wonderful working relationship and a lifetime friendship. I am truly thankful for this opportunity to design this home and work with this client!

Inspiration for a timeless bedroom remodel in Houston

This lyrical home was designed for an artist and her husband in the Northside Overlay District in Wheaton. The owners wanted a home that would fit comfortably into the established neighborhood, while creating its own presence as a new classic. While the large front porch ties the home to its neighbors, subtle details set it apart, such as the granite rubble base, the arched copper entrance, and the delicate curve in the cedar shingle roof. While the exterior echoes its shingle style roots, it is a distilled version of shingle style, a simplified rendering that sets the house firmly in the present day. The interior reinforces its stripped down persona with a long gallery and barrel-vault ceiling leading back to an intersection with the great room ceiling,- yet another barrel vault which defines the main living space in the back of the house. In all the house provides a clean canvas, ready to be filled in with the colorful detail of everyday life.

Bridle Path Residence — Classic Luxury Kitchen This Bridle Path Residence kitchen is designed as a sophisticated interpretation of the classic estate kitchen, combining traditional architectural detailing with the scale, functionality, and visual refinement expected of a contemporary luxury home. The design is intentionally layered, using millwork, stone, glass, metal, and lighting to create a kitchen that feels established and timeless rather than trend-driven. The cabinetry forms the architectural backbone of the space. Custom white millwork extends across the walls in a highly considered composition, integrating refrigeration, storage, display cabinetry, and the cooking zone into one cohesive envelope. The detailing is deliberately traditional, with framed doors, decorative moulding, fluted and curved elements, and carefully proportioned cabinetry creating a sense of permanence. One of the strongest design moments is the range wall. Rather than treating the cooking area as purely utilitarian, the design gives it the presence of a built-in architectural focal point. The sculptural hood surround, decorative corbels, arched detailing, and integrated backsplash create a furniture-like composition around the range, giving the kitchen the character of a bespoke room rather than a collection of appliances. The marble is used extensively to establish continuity throughout the space. The expressive veining across the backsplash and island creates natural movement against the otherwise quiet white palette. Carrying the stone across multiple surfaces allows the material to become an architectural element, while the restrained cabinetry provides the necessary balance. Glass-front display cabinets introduce another layer of craftsmanship. Their decorative glazing breaks up the extensive white cabinetry and creates illuminated moments for curated objects and serveware. This balance between concealed storage and open visual display gives the kitchen a more residential, collected character. The oversized island is designed as both a functional work surface and the social centre of the kitchen. Its generous proportions provide ample preparation space while creating a natural gathering point. The waterfall-like continuity of the stone surface emphasizes the scale of the island and reinforces the luxurious material palette. Lighting is treated as an architectural feature rather than simply task illumination. Two substantial contemporary crystal ring pendants float above the island, introducing sparkle and a modern counterpoint to the traditional cabinetry. Their circular geometry also softens the predominantly rectilinear architecture and creates a strong focal point when viewed from the adjoining spaces. We are delighted to have completed the radical transformation of a tired detached property in South Croydon. When they appointed Granit, our clients were living in the property which had previously been divided into a number of flats. The historic sub-division had resulted in an extremely poor use of space with redundant staircases, kitchens and bathrooms throughout. Our clients sought to reconfigure the property back into a single dwelling for his growing family. Our client had an eye for design and was keen to balance contemporary design whilst maintaining as much of the character of the original house. Maximising natural light, space and establishing a visual and physical connection were also key drivers for the design. Owing to the size of the property, it became apparent that reconfiguration rather than extension provided the solution to meet the brief. A metal clad ‘intervention’ was introduced to the rear facade. This created a strong horizontal element creating a visual balance with the vertical nature of the three storey gable. The metal cladding specified echoed the colour of the red brick string courses tying old with new. Slender frame sliding doors provide access and views of the large garden. The central circulation space was transformed by the introduction of a double height glazed slot wrapping up the rear facade and onto the roof. This allows daylight to permeate into the heart of the otherwise dark deep floor plan. The staircase was reconfigured into a series of landings looking down over the main void space below and out towards the tree canopies at the rear of the garden. The introduction of double pocket doors throughout the ground floor creates a series of interconnected spaces and the whitewashed Larch flooring flows seamlessly from room to room. A bold palette of colours and materials lends character and texture throughout the property. The end result is a spacious yet cosy environment for the family to inhabit for years to come.

Luxurious family room design in Naples, FL. Designed by Beasley & Henley Interior Design. While combining a tailored look that still inspires relaxation, the soft modern coastal design establishes an atmosphere of breezy serenity. The color palette blends sea salt with spa green, adding caramel, cream, and Champagne tones for contrast. The flooring throughout the main living areas, master bathroom, and cabana bedroom is 18-by-36-inch ceramic tile with an interesting vein cut to create movement. In the great room, we created a feature wall with three tall mirror-backed architectural niches. A television is wall-mounted in the center niche while wood shelving on either side provides display space for objets d'art. Floating base cabinets in each niche provide a foundation for this arrangement. Grimes' seating group includes an oversized sofa and a pair of upholstered club chairs with nail head detail. Two character chairs with open backs viewed from the foyer provide eye-catching flair. Glass accent tables and crystal elements in the chandelier enhance the atmosphere of a light airy space that flows easily to the kitchen. Wide pocketing sliders across the back of the great room open to a covered pool lanai and extraordinary lake views.
