We turned this desolate backyard into a beautiful living space. The mostly native plants are providing food and shelter for wildlife and the owner is enjoying a space that literally did not exist before

Tested by drought, California's trees provide ready tinder. Native trees have an advantage in adapting to drought and provide needed habitat. Emerald green, shade loving Red Fescue allows water to reach roots and gives tree roots room to grow.

The tradition blue grass turf and native grass blend together very nicely. The lawn provides an area the family can play and enjoy, while the native grass still gives color to the surroundings, with the advantage of needing little water and maintenance.

The owners of this traditional ranch home in an established neighborhood wanted an update to their landscape to create a more usable and modern space in keeping with the recent interior renovations. This entry courtyard provides a much needed walkway to the front door from the driveway as well as providing additional gathering space and seating to enjoy the new native garden.

Dramatic plant textures, modern hardscaping and sharp angles enhanced this mid-century modern bungalow. Soft plants were chosen to contrast with the sharp angles of the pathways and hard edges of the MCM home, while providing all-season interest. Horizontal privacy screens wrap the front porch and create intimate garden spaces – some visible only from the street and some visible only from inside the home. The front yard is relatively small in size, but full of colorful texture.

Access to the lake from this charming home required navigating a steep slope. db landscaping LLC was able to negotiate this terrain and provide comfortable lake access using oversized natural stone steps and landings that meander through native plant material. The upper patio space provides natural outdoor gathering space directly off the main living area and allows for a perched view of the lake beyond.

Custom cedar gate and fence provide a dramatic entrance to this backyard retreat. High-quality hardware was used for both superior durability and aesthetics. Evergreen jasmine vines grow along the fencing.
