Light pours into the kitchen from a trio of clerestory windows and a pair of backless, glass-fronted cabinets hung in front of exterior windows. A hidden pantry is accessed to the left of the Miele double ovens from Monark Premium Appliances. A quartet of Fine Art Lamps’ metal-framed pendants hangs from artisan square-link chains, spilling light from mica shades onto the dual islands topped with Cristallo quartzite. Swivel stools from Century in an aqua and white zebra print provide seating at the dining island. Wood-Mode custom maple cabinets in Vintage Nordic White line the walls. The range hood and island bases are Wood-Mode Heirloom Harbor Mist with Pewter Glaze, all from Tradewind Designs. The 3-by-12-inch stone backsplash brings in the colors of the cabinets and islands. A tile inset commands attention behind the Miele 5-burner gas cooktop also from Monark Premium Appliances.

Inspiration for a contemporary kitchen remodel in New York

Old World Mix of Spanish and English graces this completely remodeled old home in Hope Ranch, Santa Barbara. All new painted cabinets throughout, with glossy and satin finishes mixed with antiques discovered throughout the world. A wonderful mix of the owner's antique red rugs over the slate and bleached walnut floors pared with an eclectic modern art collection give a contemporary feel to this old style villa. A new pantry crafted from the unused 'maids room' attaches to the kitchen with a glossy blue island and white cabinetry. Large red velvet drapes separate the very large great room with the limestone fireplace and oversized upholstery from the kitchen area. Upstairs the library is created from an attic space, with long cushioned window seats in a wild mix of reds and blues. Several unique upstairs rooms for guests with on suite baths in different colors and styles. Black and white bath, Red bedroom, blue bedrooms, all with unique art. This peach tree was nearly dead in an abandoned corner of the landscape. Peaches like more water and 'cool' feet than is available here in the high mountain desert. I revived this tree by adding deep mulch out past its drip line and planting a non-spreading variety of comfrey all around. Comfrey is one of the most amazing beneficial plants in the garden, it deserves an article, even a book of its own. In addition to herbal and medical properties comfrey is a powerful dynamic accumulator and mulch plant, it brings a variety of nutrients from deep in the ground and accumulates them on the surface in its leaves. The leaves break down quickly into rich black soil.
