This sleek terrace, designed by Karen Garlanger Designs, LLC, features Fiberon Horizon composite decking in Ipe, and hidden fasteners. This small terrace makes a big impact with it's built-in seating, storage cabinet, and planter boxes. All of the components were built using the same material as the deck. The result is a cohesive, clean-lines look.

A large south-facing suburban front lawn was converted into an edible garden that doubles as a dynamic and functional threshold to the front entryway of the home. The client, a young family with 2 small children, needed the space to remain relatively low maintenance and act as a teaching tool for the kids. The stone and timber raised beds and simple pathways help contain the gardening spaces and maintain clear lines to move through the site, whether it be to the front door, the driveway, or another part of the garden. Layered around the clean, simple lines of the terraced garden are more organic spaces that are planted with perennial beneficial and edible flowers and along the fence line is a single sweep of lavender. Inspiration for a large timeless backyard stone patio kitchen remodel in Chicago with a pergola

An outdoor kitchen on the main bluestone terrace overlooking the yard and pool. The clients of this project desired a cohesive landscape where neighborhood children could gather and play and adults could also congregate for large parties. A pool and paved drive court provide multiple areas for play while a raised terrace allows for supervision as well as separation. Although the circulation was driven by the needs of the children, it does not impose on the adult spaces. The landscape provides enjoyment for the whole family in a safe and beautiful environment.
