Our clients wanted to update their original mid century kitchen with a new, updated version.
Walnut boxes with painted doors and drawer fronts was designed with Boomerang pulls to create that retro, but modern look. A huge island was designed so the family could eat dinner together in the kitchen. A long and tall wall of pantry storage was created, along with a small bench for sitting on to take shoes on and off and store grocery bags inside.
Custom live-edge walnut shelves were used as storage and for the pony wall cap near the front entry. Large format textured tile was installed to limit grout, but bring in a unique, textural element to the backsplash.
Mid century style lighting was installed above the sink and cloud-like pendants were hung high above the island for the tall clients to be able to see around and not bump their heads into.
Our clients were truly thrilled with the finished project and have received many compliments on it's true to mid-century design.

Our client has had a difficult time furnishing this space on their own because of two focal points and an awkward shape. The furniture they purchased at local retailers was both bulky and uncomfortable, and in turn, the room was rarely used.
After successfully completing their music room with us, our clients were ready to tackle their great room. The first step was to space plan out the room to see what the best options were for shapes and sizes of furniture. The next step was blending in the colors from the kitchen which is open to this space. We achieved this through fabrics, carpet and paint.
The fireplace was reconstructed with stacked stone and layered to the ceiling; we also designed and installed a custom mantel and installed a flat screen TV above. We painted the walls warm gray and installed a dense soft plush carpet that feels divine on the feet.
The ceiling fixtures are a central part of the space. Our clients loved the crystal droplets that hang gracefully from the main chandelier in the room.
The furniture was carefully selected for texture and colors. Red, black and silver are the prominent colors and blend well with the red and black cabinets in the surrounding rooms.
“I love, love, love it, thanks, it is absolutely perfect!” Was the message I received after the furnishings were installed.
Design Connection, Inc. provided – space planning, furniture, accessories, carpet and installation, painting, drywall repair, lighting and installation, stone and installation, design of the mantel and installation, and project management.

Entryway - huge contemporary marble floor entryway idea in Miami

In this transitional farmhouse in West Chester, PA, we renovated the kitchen and family room, and installed new flooring and custom millwork throughout the entire first floor. This chic tuxedo kitchen has white cabinetry, white quartz counters, a black island, soft gold/honed gold pulls and a French door wall oven. The family room’s built in shelving provides extra storage. The shiplap accent wall creates a focal point around the white Carrera marble surround fireplace. The first floor features 8-in reclaimed white oak flooring (which matches the open shelving in the kitchen!) that ties the main living areas together.

This 10,000 sf townhouse sits on one of Manhattan’s most beautiful Upper East Side streets and so the goal of the project was to return the house to its original grandeur. Previously a Kips Bay designer showcase house, the rooms were each designed in a differing style and therefore the lack of cohesion and flow made the house seem choppy. In addition, much of the interior was superficial in the sense that plumbing fixtures were not all connected, walls were “false walls” built in front of existing and much of the construction had to be rebuilt.
The scope included creating a large gourmet kitchen in the rear of the ground floor by closing off the winding corridor and creating a new door opening centered on the main entry hall with a paneled arched pocket door mimicking the original detailing of the parlor floor. The kitchen has a Calacatta Gold stone center island and dinning area flanked by counters that run the length of the east and west walls with glass front upper cabinets. A built-in buffet on the south wall anchors the space. A mud room, with access to the delivery entrance and additional storage space was added off the kitchen. A new slim profile steel and glass French door provides access to a new steel rear deck and stairs to the rear yard. On the second floor, a new tile floor was added throughout and RRA designed new stone mantle pieces fabricated from England in the living and dining rooms.
On the 3rd floor, a new wall was constructed in the 11’ wide central hallway to allow a new 135 sf master closet with custom designed built-in storage units and accessories. This concept was carried through to the 4th floor on a smaller scale and 4 new storage closets were added in the hallway. The existing bathroom on the 4th Floor was gutted and redesigned including a new 5’x5’ extra deep soaking tub and new fixtures. Silver travertine tiles were used throughout to give the room a durable, waterproof finish while also providing a warm, luxurious feel.
The 5th floor was converted into a playroom and TV room for the family’s two young children and was outfitted with chalkboard paint along the entire east wall in the play area and a bold color block wall treatment in the TV room. A new cork floor was installed for durability and resilience to lots of activity yet providing a soft and sustainable floor treatment for its intended user. A full laundry room was also created floor with new cabinetry, plumbing, and floor and wall tile. Additionally, 3 full baths and a powder room were refitted with tumbled travertine tiles on the top two floors. The exterior of the building was refurbished and new lighting and painted doors and frames were installed in accordance with Landmark designation. An additional challenge on the project was that a previously built extension on the PH level was illegally overbuilt and the property had received a violation. A 9 month process of filing drawings, completing zoning analyses and meetings with the DOB Commissioners ensued to get the extension approved allowing us to obtain a permit for the remainder of the work and complete the Certificate of Occupancy.
In spite of the complex process and scattered program, the completed townhouse has a cohesive aesthetic throughout, with upgraded amenities befitting this grand representation of elite New York living.

This thoughtfully executed renovation has transformed a beloved family home into a retirement-ready haven. The design, anchored by a family heirloom—a shoji door made by the owner's father—brings a sense of history and warmth with its rich wood tones. The reimagined kitchen shines with increased space and light, becoming a baker's dream, while maintaining its functionality for everyday use. Alongside, the powder room and laundry have received functional upgrades, enhancing the home's overall efficiency. Every detail is a blend of personal legacy and modern living, ensuring this home continues to be a place of comfort and ease for years to come.

This nursery was a Gender Surprise Nursery and was one of our most memorable designs to date. The client was having her second baby and didn't want to know the baby's gender, yet wanted to have an over-the-top, elegant royal nursery completed to her liking before she had the baby. So we designed two complete nurseries down to every detail...one for a boy and one for a girl. Then when the mom-to-be went for her ultrasound, the doctor sealed up a picture in an envelope and mailed it to our studio. I couldn't wait for the secret to be revealed and was so tickled to be the only person besides the doctor to know the gender of the baby! I opened the envelop and saw an obvious BOY in the image and got right to work ordering up all of the appropriate boy nursery furniture, bedding, wall art, lighting and decor. We had to stage most of the nursery's decor here in our studio and when the furniture was set to arrive, we drove to NJ, the family left the house, and we kicked into gear receiving the nursery furniture and installing the crib bedding, wall art, rug, and accessories down to the tiniest little detail. We completed the decorative mural around the room and when finished, locked the door behind us! We even taped paper over the windows and taped around the outside of the door so no "glow" might show through the door crack at night! The nursery would sit and wait for Mommy and baby to arrive home from the hospital. Such a fun project and so full of excitement and anticipation. When Mom and baby Luke arrived home from the hospital and she saw her nursery for the first time, she contacted me and said "the nursery is breath taking and made me cry!" I love a happy ending...don't you?

Example of a small trendy l-shaped dark wood floor enclosed kitchen design in Dallas with shaker cabinets, green cabinets and white backsplash

Entryway - mid-sized country dark wood floor entryway idea in Atlanta with white walls and a dark wood front door

Inspiration for a large southwestern terra-cotta tile and orange floor kitchen remodel in Other with an undermount sink, shaker cabinets, medium tone wood cabinets, quartz countertops, blue backsplash, ceramic backsplash, stainless steel appliances, an island and white countertops

Like most homes built in the 1980’s this combined entry, living room, eating area, and kitchen were completely compartmentalized with walls. They loved the idea of opening up the spaces to accommodate more of a great room feeling. Advance Design accomplished this by opening up the corner of the kitchen to not only make the space flow, but to let light into the dark eating nook and living room.
Working on a budget, opening up the space and installing new hardwood flooring was a priority, so a more expansive kitchen had to be economical. Wanting a clean, contemporary feel; tall espresso shaker cabinets replaced old soffits, and River White granite made an impressive and clean lined contrast. A drywall pantry was replaced with an efficient roll out pantry, and stylish long stainless steel pulls tie the whole look together.
