A TOUCHDOWN BY DESIGN
Interior design by Jennifer Corredor, J Design Group, Coral Gables, Florida

What did Detroit Lions linebacker, Stephen Tulloch, do when he needed a decorator for his new Miami 10,000-square-foot home? He tackled the situation by hiring interior designer Jennifer Corredor. Never defensive, he let her have run of the field. “He’d say, ‘Jen, do your thing,’” she says. And she did it well.
The first order of the day was to get a lay of the land and a feel for what he wanted. For his primary residence, Tulloch chose a home in Pinecrest, Florida. — a great family neighborhood known for its schools and ample lot sizes. “His lot is huge,” Corredor says. “He could practice his game there if he wanted.”
A laidback feeling permeates the suburban village, where mostly Mediterranean homes intermix with a few modern styles. With views toward the pool and a landscaped yard, Tulloch’s 10,000-square-foot home touches on both, a Mediterranean exterior with chic contemporary interiors.
Step inside, where high ceilings and a sculptural stairway with oak treads and linear spindles immediately capture the eye. “Knowing he was more inclined toward an uncluttered look, and taking into consideration his age and lifestyle, I naturally took the path of choosing more modern furnishings,” the designer says.
In the dining room, Tulloch specifically asked for a round table and Corredor found “Xilos Simplice” by Maxalto, a table that seats six to eight and has a Lazy Susan.
And just past the stairway, two armless chairs from Calligaris and a semi-round sofa shape the living room. In keeping with Tulloch’s desire for a simple no-fuss lifestyle, leather is often used for upholstery. “He preferred wipe-able areas,” she says. “Nearly everything in the living room is clad in leather.”
An architecturally striking, oak-coffered ceiling warms the family room, while Saturnia marble flooring grounds the space in cool comfort. “Since it’s just off the kitchen, this relaxed space provides the perfect place for family and friends to congregate — somewhere to hang out,” Corredor says. The deep-seated sofa wrapped in tan leather and Minotti armchairs in white join a pair of linen-clad ottomans for ample seating.
With eight bedrooms in the home, there was “plenty of space to repurpose,” Corredor says. “Five are used for sleeping quarters, but the others have been converted into a billiard room, a home office and the memorabilia room.” On the first floor, the billiard room is set for fun and entertainment with doors that open to the pool area.
The memorabilia room presented quite a challenge. Undaunted, Corredor delved into a seemingly never-ending collection of mementos to create a tribute to Tulloch’s career. “His team colors are blue and white, so we used those colors in this space,” she says.
In a nod to Tulloch’s career on and off the field, his home office displays awards, recognition plaques and photos from his foundation. A Copenhagen desk, Herman Miller chair and leather-topped credenza further an aura of masculinity.
All about relaxation, the master bedroom would not be complete without its own sitting area for viewing sports updates or late-night movies. Here, lounge chairs recline to create the perfect spot for Tulloch to put his feet up and watch TV. “He wanted it to be really comfortable,” Corredor says
A total redo was required in the master bath, where the now 12-foot-long shower is a far cry from those in a locker room. “This bath is more like a launching pad to get you going in the morning,” Corredor says.
“All in all, it’s a fun, warm and beautiful environment,” the designer says. “I wanted to create something unique, that would make my client proud and happy.” In Tulloch’s world, that’s a touchdown.

Nautical-themed hybrid swimming pool with raised spa, sunshelf, slide, grotto, and pizza oven
(September 2013) – Ask the Pool Guy and his team at Legendary Escapes recently unveiled the newest Legendary Escape, a stunning nautical-themed hybrid swimming pool. The hand-carved concrete waterfall, rock slide, and grotto are the focal point of this incredible project, and designer and builder Al Curtis has truly outdone himself this time. Behind the waterfall sits a grotto that seats 8-10 people comfortably. The waterfall, slide, and grotto area come complete with intricate details and additions that perfectly play into the project’s theme. An immense amount of creativity, talent, and skill is required to take ordinary materials like vinyl and concrete and turn them into the outstanding backyards that Curtis creates, but these details allow his creativity to shine in a different light. Curtis immerses himself completely in just one or two projects at a time, which allows him the opportunity to add those intricate details that take his extraordinary projects to the next level. Some of the details in the grotto area of this hybrid project include real ship portholes that open and close, as well as carvings and lanterns to add visual interest inside of the grotto.
The project also includes a raised spillover spa and a sunshelf with a bubbling water feature. The sunshelf has steps leading into the main body of the pool, giving swimmers an easy entry point if they don’t feel the urge to jump off the top of the waterfall or take a ride down the hand-carved, hand-tiled slide. The shelf has just enough water to allow shallow wading or lounging, and the pebbled finish provides a perfect place to set a lounge chair without worrying about damaging the vinyl liner. With the spa nearby, this whole end of the pool is perfect for relaxing, talking, or watching the kids while they swim.
This incredible hybrid swimming pool also includes a poolside pizza oven, so fresh, stone-fired pizza is never far away. The brick oven can cook a pizza in about 90 seconds, and produces authentic, outstanding pizzas. The homeowners have spent years perfecting their pizza crust and sauce recipes, as well as growing their own tomatoes and basil. The pizza oven adds another element of their own personality, and makes this project even more perfect for them. With a built-in countertop, it’s easy to get a couple of pies going at one time, or to prep ingredients for personal pizzas.
The homeowners are very family-oriented and love to have friends and family over to their home. During the construction process, the Legendary Escapes crew met several friends and family members who stopped in for some quality time and to check out the progress of the pool. The finished product is a perfect place for entertaining, and it feels very comfortable and welcoming. With the sunshelf, spa, grotto, poolside seating, and the pool itself, there are plenty of different places to sit or soak and have conversations or splash around.
Curtis is incredibly proud of this project, and he has high hopes for it. He was recently named a Master of Design by Pool & Spa News for a hybrid swimming pool he built in Brighton, MI. This new, nautical hybrid pool fits in beautifully with his portfolio, but also stands out as extraordinary. The team at Legendary Escapes anticipates positive feedback and recognition for this project, and looks forward to building more swimming pools that push the envelope and wow clients and fans.

A lot of homes built in the early 1900s in Portland have been remodeled beyond recognition. The trim has been painted, the floors replaced and the built-ins just didn't make it through years of wear and tear. That's not the case with this home in the Ladd's Addition neighborhood of Portland. Built in 1911, the dark trim remained unpainted, the fir floors still intact and the built-ins in the dining room were in almost perfect condition but the home was dark, empty and didn't function for the owners.
Contrary to all my other thoughts in design to lighten a home, we embraced the dark. The trim and floors were sanded and refinished to their original state. In the entry, the walls were painted black. After multiple meetings and conversations with the client where nothing out there seemed quite right, I developed along with artist, Michael Paulus, a custom flower that fit the owner's personality and style down to the scale and exact color palette. This became the inspiration and guiding color scheme to create a glamorous but livable home that was neutral and rich in texture.

An updated dining space where rustic charm warmly welcomes small elements of monochromatic modernism. Though truly an open concept with the kitchen at it's front and connections leading to the rest of the home at it's left, this room still feels so cozy and warm.

In the award-winning Brentwood residence, Global Wave Integration’s Wave of Wellness app gives homeowners effortless control over soundscapes, lighting, and AV integration. Shown here in use, the app personalizes the cinematic environment, balancing entertainment with wellness-focused features. This innovation was a key factor in the project’s recognition with four major awards, including CEDIA Best Single Room Solution and CEPro Best New Technologies.

This project was an entry to the Water Wise Landscape Recognition Program in Brantford. Features include: Spillway from downspout directed to supply water to drip-line of young Red Maple. This replaced a lawn that was in constant battle with invasive weeds and crabgrass. The grade of the yard was changed to retain as much rain water as possible to significantly reduce run-off. All plants used require little to no water need outside of what Mother Nature provides.

Tower Paddle Boards, or Tower (as in a lifeguard tower), is a dedicated stand up paddle boarding brand started by Stephan Aarstol and later funded by Shark Tank icon Mark Cuban on ABC's hit show.
Simply Stunning Spaces has had the absolute pleasure of watching this company grow from their small office space in Pacific Beach to expanding their warehouse space and most recently gaining a prominent location on one of San Diego's most recognizable streets, Garnet Ave.
This space had a long ways to go to becoming something simply stunning but the end result was just that. By removing the ceiling tiles and opening up to the 15 foot ceilings hidden away we were able to maximize the square footage of the office, gain a second floor of office space and dedicate the bottom floor to retail and event space for the SUP community to enjoy.
Some of our favorite features: the 31 foot Tower mural inside the glass enclosed private work space, the outdoor painted signage, the sand blasted ceilings which were definitely worth it! The exposed duct work add to its industrial feel and the glass enclosed shaping room in the window is an absolute show stopper!
The bar we built for the previous office space fit just perfectly in the new space. We love repurposing whenever we can and the dedicated niche we built to house all the really cool awards and recognitions the owner and company have received were well deserving of being highlighted. It's not too often you can say you've been in Inc magazine, Forbes, 20/20... just to name a few!

We are a full service, residential design/build company specializing in large remodels and whole house renovations. Our way of doing business is dynamic, interactive and fully transparent. It's your house, and it's your money. Recognition of this fact is seen in every facet of our business because we respect our clients enough to be honest about the numbers. In exchange, they trust us to do the right thing. Pretty simple when you think about it.

This second floor living space overlooks beautiful White Rock Lake. Perfect for entertaining or just relaxing with friends and family, this room bursts with natural light and sports an outdoor deck with plenty of seating.

AIA Design Excellence Recognition, this is a refined, light-filled architectural intervention that amplifies space, daylight, and connection while complimenting the site’s integrity. Working entirely within the existing foundation, the design introduces a layered, multifunctional program: two guest rooms, an office, basketball gym, media room, and entertaining kitchen. Each space flows into the next, supporting varied uses without feeling compartmentalized. Skylights above the stair, clerestory windows over the gym, and floor-to-ceiling glass draw daylight deep into the plan, transforming rooms into bright, engaging living spaces.

Shaughnessy Residences is recognized as the Best New Townhome project over 1500 sqft. in Metro Vancouver.
Two awards at the Ovation Awards Gala this past weekend. Congratulations @havanofficial on your 10th anniversary and thank you for the recognition given to Shaughnessy Residences:
1. Best Townhouse/Rowhome Development (1500 S.F. and over)
2. Best Interior Design Display Suite (Multi-Family Home)

Two bookcase/display cabinets and a corner china cabinet with concealed LED lighting. The tops, adjustable wood shelves, cabinet bottoms, and the door frame are made of solid Honduran mahogany reclaimed from the homeowner's mother's dining table, adding a respectful heirloom aspect to the project. The laser engraved star pattern on the top borders was designed to complement a beautiful hand-stenciled design on a console cabinet in the adjacent room. The bases were made with an Asian-influenced design to reflect the style of many other items in the home from the homeowner's years of working in Asia. The top surfaces and the solid mahogany bases were stained ebony to coordinate with the dining table and to provide a color break between the floor and the cabinets. All the other mahogany is simply clear coated to highlight the beautiful color and iridescence of mahogany.
The tops and front and side borders were assembled using lock miter construction. We extend special thanks and recognition to Trefoil Laser Services, Inc. of Greensboro, NC (www.trefoillaser.com) for the beautiful and precise laser engraving on the top borders.

This open concept kitchen is bright, clean, and effortlessly functional. Overlooking both the dining and the living area, this space makes it so easy to entertain guests or keep an eye on the kids while cooking. Featuring all brand new kitchen hardware and stainless steel appliances.
