In Old Town Alexandria, homeowners of a beautiful historic home built a colonial garden on an adjacent corner lot. They had vision and patience. The lot was home to a 1920’s stucco-covered storefront with eight garage bays, which included a delicatessen and drycleaners. The process of building the garden took three years from start to finish, including Old and Historic Alexandria Board of Architecture Review approval, re-routing utility lines, a grading plan, and an archaeological dig.

The pool slopes down in the middle towards the deep end on the left. Each tanning shelf has a gently sloping beach entry at the outside corner to assist people with mobility issues.

This 1925 home originally had a roof over the front porch but past owners had it removed, the new owners wanted to bring back the original look while using modern rot proof material.
We started with Permacast structural 12" fluted columns, custom built a hidden gutter system, and trimmed everything out in a rot free material called Boral. The ceiling is a wood beaded ceiling painted in a traditional Richmond color and the railings are black aluminum. We topped it off with a metal copper painted hip style roof and decorated the box beam with some roman style fluted blocks.
