A workout and dance studio features gold wall paint, an engineered floating floor, white doors and trim. The half open door with shelves stores workout gear and does double duty as it leads to a secret room that stores the gym mats.

An outdated old cherry wood kitchen was due for an update. The owners wanted a current, modern, sleek kitchen, that is more 'open' feeling.
Together with designer Amir Ilin, they selected DOCA walnut cabinets. The main sink is now on the island and porcelain cabinets were selected for that, as they are water proof and very practical.
The window, was made a bit bigger and the cook top, plus the secondary sink moved there.
The fridge, and pantry cabinets moved to the adjacent wall.
A new section with reduced depth storage and glass wall cabinets was added to complete the design.
Sapeinstone counters and backsplashes were chosen to complete the new modern kitchen.

A complete two bath & kitchen renovation in a condo. Client wanted a larger kitchen area and better layout for bathrooms. We removed a wall near the entrance and extended the kitchen with additional cabinetry and storage area. Laundry room was reduced to accommodate the larger kitchen.
The shared and primary bathrooms were gutted and fully remodeled as well. Enlarged shower enclosure in shared bath for more space. Layout of primary bathroom was changed for better accessibility and flow in the area. Vanity and shower was relocated to create a more spacious and inviting environment.
Client didn’t like the current floors, we replaced it with luxury vinyl planks for durability.

The owners requested that their home harmonize with the spirit of the surrounding Colorado mountain setting and enhance their outdoor recreational lifestyle - while reflecting their contemporary architectural tastes. The site was burdened with a myriad of strict design criteria enforced by the neighborhood covenants and architectural review board. Creating a distinct design challenge, the covenants included a narrow interpretation of a “mountain style” home which established predetermined roof pitches, glazing percentages and material palettes - at direct odds with the client‘s vision of a flat-roofed, glass, “contemporary” home.
Our solution finds inspiration and opportunities within the site covenant’s strict definitions. It promotes and celebrates the client’s outdoor lifestyle and resolves the definition of a contemporary “mountain style” home by reducing the architecture to its most basic vernacular forms and relying upon local materials.
The home utilizes a simple base, middle and top that echoes the surrounding mountains and vegetation. The massing takes its cues from the prevalent lodgepole pine trees that grow at the mountain’s high altitudes. These pine trees have a distinct growth pattern, highlighted by a single vertical trunk and a peaked, densely foliated growth zone above a sparse base. This growth pattern is referenced by placing the wood-clad body of the home at the second story above an open base composed of wood posts and glass. A simple peaked roof rests lightly atop the home - visually floating above a triangular glass transom. The home itself is neatly inserted amongst an existing grove of lodgepole pines and oriented to take advantage of panoramic views of the adjacent meadow and Continental Divide beyond.
The main functions of the house are arranged into public and private areas and this division is made apparent on the home’s exterior. Two large roof forms, clad in pre-patinated zinc, are separated by a sheltering central deck - which signals the main entry to the home. At this connection, the roof deck is opened to allow a cluster of aspen trees to grow – further reinforcing nature as an integral part of arrival.
Outdoor living spaces are provided on all levels of the house and are positioned to take advantage of sunrise and sunset moments. The distinction between interior and exterior space is blurred via the use of large expanses of glass. The dry stacked stone base and natural cedar cladding both reappear within the home’s interior spaces.
This home offers a unique solution to the client’s requests while satisfying the design requirements of the neighborhood covenants. The house provides a variety of indoor and outdoor living spaces that can be utilized in all seasons. Most importantly, the house takes its cues directly from its natural surroundings and local building traditions to become a prototype solution for the “modern mountain house”.

Tying multiple floors together using 6”x36” dark grey wood-looking tile, laid on a staggered patterned worked well with the tile and concrete floors next to it.
Two-toned cabinetry of wired brushed hickory with a grey stain wash, combined with maple wood in a dark slate finish is a current trend.
Counter tops: combination of splashy granite and white Caesarstone grounded the display. A custom-designed table of ash wood, with heavy distressing and grey washed stain added warmth.
Show custom features:
Arched glass door cabinets with crown moulding to match.
Unique Features: drawer in drawer for pot lids, pull out drawer in toe kick for dog dishes, toe space step stool, swing up mixer shelf, pull out spice storage.
Built in Banquette seating with table and docking station for family meals and working.
Custom open shelves and wine rack with detailed legs anchor the three sides of the island.
Backsplash rail with spice rack, knife and utensil holder add more storage space.
A floating soffit matches the shape of island and helps lower the showroom ceiling height to what would be found in a normal home. It includes: pendant lights for the snack bar, chandelier for the table and recess for task lights over the sink.
The large triangular shaped island has eleven foot legs. It fills the unusual space and creates three separate areas: a work space, snack bar/room divider and table area.

A complete ‘to the studs’ sustainable renovation of an early 1960’s mountain residence originally designed by Robert Calhoun Smith, final architect for the National Cathedral. This home now meets the Silver rating criteria for LEED for Homes, currently under development by the USGBC.
Perched on the first ridge of the Appalachians west of Washington D.C. with a beautiful valley view, the house faces slightly east of south. This orientation makes it ideal for a new 28 foot window seat acting as a passive solar window wall with a carefully designed sun shade. Energy usage was reduced further by utilizing a multi-well geothermal HVAC system and installing a Energy Recovery Ventilator with a high-performance super-insulated envelope. Extensive clerestory windows and a light interior color palette negates the need for lighting during the day, even when the mountain is fogged in.
The original interior vertical paneling, a dark stained mahogany, was resurfaced and recycled as exterior horizontal siding. All wood trim and new decking are FSC certified.
