The site is a single-story mid-century residence that fronts Urbana's historic Carle Park. The owners are an academic couple with a young family who originally wanted to replace their dilapidated garage with one that would also contain a family gym. After discussing their priorities, we decided to eliminate the garage altogether, and replace it with a two-story tower. On the ground floor is a fully equipped gym, with a power rack, Peloton bike, treadmill, and bike storage. Above the gym is an office for Professor Clancy. The raised office has a striking view of the park, as well as the surrounding landscape. Proximity to their university jobs allowed the family to reduce their vehicles to a single electric crossover. This photo changes the perspective providing the viewer a view from the entry way. The main focus being the lovely double bowl vanity top. This design is perfect for a couple who loves doing things together but don't necessarily like to share. The vanity top is constructed from granite and the cabinets below are Wolf Saginaw cabinets in dark chestnut. These not only give the room fantastic aesthetic value; they are also practical for storage, providing lots of space and reducing clutter on the granite vanity top. Above each sink are beautiful mirrors.

Sequined Asphault Studio This project was originally spec home for a developer. The buyer purchased the home before it was done and wanted to customize the bathroom to better fit their needs. We raised the custom vanity with mirrored doors to 40" inches to accommodate their height. They were looking for a very classic bathroom in a grey carrara stone. The vanity mirrors were purchased from Restoration Hardware. We wanted to add more storage to accommodate their needs and wants.

The new space creates a defined kitchen separate from the pantry/bar area by reducing the opening with a wall and pulling the refrigerator out of the doorway and pantry into the kitchen. The opening was reduced enough to separate the rooms while still keeping it large enough to address the dining room connection. The husband had one request: to make room for his whimsical picture in the redesign. By building a picture frame over the bar sink we incorporated the owner’s picture as part of the cabinetry complete with a hidden picture light behind the crown molding to illuminate it. The raised panel, French blue cabinets are finished with a dark brown glazing. These are full overlay doors and drawers, constructed with high precision to maintain a 1/8” gap between every side of a door and drawer. PHOTO CREDIT: John Ray

These modest homeowners were looking for drainage solutions, low maintenance plantings, and an entertainment space they could enjoy outside. Mowing the grass had been a pain in the past, so with this design we decided to remove it entirely. Instead, more native grasses were utilized to take in water and reduce erosion. A new fence modernized and updated the space and allowed the interior of the backyard to be leveled providing more opportunities for design elements like a floating bench and custom built fire pit.

Request Free Quote This lap pool in Burr Ridge, IL measures 20'0" x 40'0", and the raised hot tub measures 8'0" x 8'0". Both the pool and hot tub have LED colored lights. There is a 6'0" bench in the deep end of the pool. Both the pool and hot tub coping is Valder's Wisconsin Limestone. 4 LED Laminar jets provide a dramatic vertical element. The spa is raised 18" and has a dramatic sheer overflow water feature. Both the pool and hot tub have Ceramaquartz exposed aggregate pool finish in Tahoe Blue color. The Owners of a home that had been consumed by the moving dunes of Lake Michigan wanted a home that would not only stand the test of aesthetic time, but survive the vicissitudes of the environment. With the assistance of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality as well as the consulting civil engineer and the City of Grand Haven Zoning Department, a soil stabilization site plan was developed based on raising the new home’s main floor elevation by almost three feet, implementing erosion studies, screen walls and planting indigenous, drought tolerant xeriscaping. The screen walls, as well as the low profile of the home and the use of sand trapping marrum beachgrass all help to create a wind shadow buffer around the home and reduce blowing sand erosion and accretion. The Owners wanted to minimize the stylistic baggage which consumes most “cottage” residences, and with the Architect created a home with simple lines focused on the view and the natural environment. Sustainable energy requirements on a budget directed the design decisions regarding the SIPs panel insulation, energy systems, roof shading, other insulation systems, lighting and detailing.
