The clients had an existing deck and decortive corner pergola structure that was built over 20 years ago by Creative Wood Products. Time and the elements had taken their toll on the structure and some of the decking areas. We replaced the entire corner pergola with one that looked similar with the only changes being to make the structure sturdier for their chain swing that they hang off of it . Rather than have them go through the expense of replacing all of the decking ( which after 20+ years will still in very good shape across the majority of the deck ) we cut off the areas of comprimised wood and reframed the substructure to accept a feature strip at the bay area . This allowed us to replace the areas of bad material and make it look like a design feature that was always there. It saved the clients considerable expense, and when stained to match, will look great. The corner pergola is now much more stable and ready for years more of relaxing in their chain swing underneath it. Thank you very much Mr. & Mrs. Nerreter for allowing us to revitalize your backyard retreat !

Built in the early 1950s, this small urban townhouse is located in North Old Town Alexandria in an area currently undergoing major redevelopment. The neighborhood is popular with, and affordable for, young people and families, and very convenient to Washington, DC.
In its heyday, the townhouse touted a stately brick exterior, plaster walls, tongue and groove wood flooring and beautiful wooden staircase. Sixty years later, however, the homeowners were faced with crumbling masonry, sagging floors, a double layer of wallpaper over the plaster walls, a crumbling staircase, a dysfunctional kitchen and small, dark second floor rooms. Additionally, the basement had a low ceiling, moldy and cinder block walls, no plumbing and a large boiler taking up most of the space.
The homeowners’ goal was to restore the exterior’s historic look while creating an interior up-to-date for the 21st Century. To turn their vision into reality, they turned to Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes.
Design Solutions
To maintain the townhome’s historic exterior, the Michael Nash team carefully removed, salvaged, restored and reused existing brick masonry. Matching fascia boards and windows were combined with existing windows to complete the exterior renovation.
All interior walls were gutted and reframed. New electrical work, new insulation and new drywall were installed. Much of the home’s original trim was salvaged and reused, as was a piece of art glass, all to keep a bit of the past in the renovation.
The sagging subfloors were fixed, new hard wood floors were installed and a new staircase and railing were designed in a style similar to the original.
The solid wall between the kitchen and the dining room was removed, plumbing was relocated for a new sink location and the kitchen got expanded with an island into the dining room. Closet and plumbing stacks were relocated to allow a new space for fridge. Stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and custom cabinetry highlight the new modern kitchen.
The plan called for redesigning the three bedrooms on the second floor to allow a larger bathroom, walk-in closet and wider hallways. In addition to new roofing, a large skylight was installed to allow natural light into the bathroom and the upper hallway.
The basement was totally revamped. New plumbing was put in place for a full bathroom, laundry room and a den. New e-grass window was installed in the basement to bring this basement up to current building codes.
This homeowners love the neighborhood and now their home gives them the opportunity to stay in the same location.

This is a railing replacement that we had done on a 35 + year old home. The original railing was a bit rotten, so we removed & reframed approx. 90 lineal feet of railing. We then strung just over 450 lineal ft, of stainless steel braided cable with eye hooks and turnbuckles to keep the tension in the cables. The angle braces in the corners are 1/8 inch aluminum that add a bit of strength and a little detail. All the lumber that was used is rated for outdoor use.

This project was completed in 3 different stages and involved a significant portion of the house. Probably the biggest issue was the stairway to 2nd floor. The original home was a farmhouse with a variety of additions and the staircase did not have sufficient headroom to get even a queen size bed up: big problem. Well, we ripped it all open and reframed a beautiful spiral stairs from the 1st floor up to the attic. We love the new bathrooms and kitchens, but the staircase was really challenging and it’s probably our most favourite part of the project.
We also built this project for the client while they were living in the Middle East. We appreciated their patience and trust in us while they were away.

The owners hired our real estate business to assist them with the sale of this property. The clients were concerned about getting the right price for their home, so they contacted LB LounsBury Group to begin interior and minor exterior renovations to the property in order to increase its value.
When LB LounsBury Group arrived at the Highfield location, the interior had lathe and plaster throughout, knob-tube wiring and old mechanical systems. The flooring was of original hardwood, the back deck was rotting and the front porch and walkway were deteriorating. After removal of all outdated materials and features, walls were reframed and new electrical systems were added. The original heating method for this property was the use of outdated radiators. We then installed new completely new HVAC system throughout the entire home. We added new sub-flooring, hardwood flooring, baseboard and trim. New glass railings were installed to the staircase and to the front of the house, and we built a new deck in the rear of the property. To give it a fresher look, we poured a new walkway and front steps to the house and completed minor landscaping of the front yard. This project was completed in 45 days, from initial meeting to offer date. Upon completion, the property increased in value by 35%.

This home was gutted to the studs, reframed and rebuilt. The furniture in this room is custom. This customers older but charming home in Paoli PA was in desperate need of a bathroom remodel. The original home owners had added a bath to the first floor but it was thrown together and not what the new homeowners wanted. We remodeled the bathroom from the ground up; reframing the original flooring joists to support a new tile floor, relocated the toilet and sink locations, and adding a new tiled shower. We kept as much of the plaster walls, trims, and radiator to keep the original charm of this old house. We used a simple white subway tile for the new shower with a Dreamline shower door. A sleeker new freestanding tub was installed. A pedestal sink and separate storage cabinet add to the traditional look. Older homes are always more interesting and harder to remodel but this project added both a usable and stylish new bathroom for this growing family.

We undertook a complete renovation of this 2 bedroom Yaletown condo, completely removing the existing finishes. The ceiling was scraped and re-plastered. We installed a new bathroom with a walk in shower, replaced the existing kitchen with a new layout and reframed the dropped ceiling. New chevron oiled wood flooring was laid throughout the unit. The kitchen has custom cabinetry and porcelain slab counter and backsplash. We installed an invisible induction cook top underneath the counter.

This was a project in the High Park area that we were asked to remove all the finishes on the interior and re-design the spaces to accommodate an open concept layout. There was a small back stairway that we converted into an eating area for the kitchen and bedroom in the basement. All the exterior walls were re-framed and spray foam insulated. All-new drywall, hardwood, tiles, kitchen, plumbing fixtures, and the old fireplace were re-done. The existing stairs were resurfaced and we added all-new handrails and guardrails.

Full second floor renovation with new expanded bathroom. We started this project by taking down all the second floors plaster on the walls and ceilings. We reframed the bedroom closets to better utilize the space as well as adding a new hallway linen closet. We enlarged the main bathroom giving room for a new show stopping shower. New insulation, drywall, and trims were installed throughout. We also installed all new soft close by pass closet doors, new closet shelving, and black gas pipe closet rods. New Johnson hickory hardwood floors were installed throughout the bedrooms, hall, and stairs in English pub series; color hickory scotch. The bathroom tile work is exceptional and the metallic accent band adds to the look. From the ground up this second floor is brand new and it shows. Everything is now crisp and bright; a totally different space.

THIS MASTERPIECE WAS FORMULATED WITH ONE THING IN MIND : FAMILY! THIS BEAUTIFUL SPACE HAS A GREAT OPEN CONCEPT FROM THE FRONT DOOR TO THE FIREPLACE. Lake views, daylight and a private master suite were the primary goals of this second floor remodel. Having started as a lake cottage, several previous remodels resulted in an awkward floor plan and major structural issues. New beams were added in the floor and ceiling and both were completely re-framed to level the nearly 4” of sag. The master bedroom was moved to the lakeside with large windows, a vaulted ceiling and private master bath. An addition made space for two more bedrooms filled with daylight.

On this project we combined a closet with a powder to room to create a full Master Bath. Porcelain stall shower with 12”x12” tile on brick pattern bottom and 6”x6” tile on a diamond pattern on the top. Glass mosaics serve as accents with fee standing stone bench and pie shelves. Shower is completed with a frameless enclosure with oil rubbed bronze hardware.
We continued with matching porcelain tile on the main floor with a pinwheel pattern. New glazed vanity and new recessed lighting design. After some minor reframing we enclosed the newly configured bathroom with a pocket door.
