Full second floor renovation with new expanded bathroom. We started this project by taking down all the second floors plaster on the walls and ceilings. We reframed the bedroom closets to better utilize the space as well as adding a new hallway linen closet. We enlarged the main bathroom giving room for a new show stopping shower. New insulation, drywall, and trims were installed throughout. We also installed all new soft close by pass closet doors, new closet shelving, and black gas pipe closet rods. New Johnson hickory hardwood floors were installed throughout the bedrooms, hall, and stairs in English pub series; color hickory scotch. The bathroom tile work is exceptional and the metallic accent band adds to the look. From the ground up this second floor is brand new and it shows. Everything is now crisp and bright; a totally different space.

Client contacted Staged to Sell or Dwell to revamp lower level den. With minimal lighting, the space felt dark and drab, the client requested that it be updated and that it take on a more cohesive, masculine style. Reframing nearly 100 of the client’s memorable photos and hanging in a gallery-style setting was a notable part of this project.

They also wanted a built-in breakfast nook, improved pantry space, more functional storage on either side of their fireplace, and a built-in appearance for the TV above the mantel. The original built-in desk was not used, and they preferred for that space to serve as a small bar area with refrigeration and a place to store their printer. We designed several plans for the space before selecting the final layout. The new design required the removal of the soffit over the old sink, as well as a small wall beside the old refrigerator. The wall beside the stairwell had to be shortened 13 inches and a new beam installed to carry the load of the home’s 2nd story to gain enough space for the large central island. The existing closet pantry walls were also reconfigured as per the new plan. This serves as a great reminder that Dimensions In Wood is much more than just custom cabinets. Central to the entire custom kitchen is an 8-foot Walnut island. The huge island, which comfortably seats three, is topped with Essenza Blue quartzite. The stone’s natural striations are beautiful. Quartzite is harder than granite, and less likely to stain than other stones because of its density. The couple had to look through multiple slabs to find a piece they LOVED. The island’s custom Walnut cabinetry, built to resemble a piece of custom furniture, was stained Bronzed Walnut by Sherwin Williams. The 4-foot Galley Workstation in the island, handles all the kitchen’s prep, serving, and cleanup needs. The Galley’s culinary tools include an upper tier cutting board, upper tier drying rack, 2 lower tier platforms, 11″ colander with non-slip handles, and 11” mixing bowl with lid and non-slip bottom. A water tap with reverse osmosis filter provides the highest quality drinking water. To keep a clean and sleek counter we installed a raised air switch for the garbage disposal and integrated soap dispenser. The island also houses the Thermador Sapphire 7-Program Dishwasher with a hidden touch control panel and a custom Walnut wood front. The cabinetry under the Galley Workstation features a trash roll out, as well as storage for the culinary tools. Shortening the stairwell wall, and reframing around the stairs, which included shortening the handrail, also made room for a bi-fold door walk-in pantry with extra roll out storage and space for a small microwave. Above the panty doors is a remote controlled, electric motor powered, lift up cabinet door which hides a flat screen TV, used while the family is cooking. To the right of the walk-in pantry is cold food storage. The Thermador, 30-inch Freedom Collection refrigerator and 24-inch built-in freezer column with internal ice maker are covered with matching cabinetry fronts. An open display space was designed above the units, creating an aesthetically beautiful wall. To the right of the refrigerator & freezer columns is a tall cabinet designed for the built-in Thermador steam and convection oven. The convention steam oven is a relatively new technology for homes, but its versatility and food quality is amazing. To the right of this is a pull-out appliance pantry which provides easy access and storage for a stand mixer, blender, and any other appliance you do not want to clutter the counter. The most visible wall of the kitchen features the 36-inch Thermador Professional Series Harmony Gas Range with Griddle. Between the range and custom designed wood hood, a framed mosaic tile accent in the backsplash, creates a focal point. To clear the air, the Professional Series Thermador 42-inch ventilation insert provides excellent exhaust capabilities, as well as providing multi-level, vivid LED lights for beautiful illumination. The wall cabinetry symmetrically flanks the custom hood, utilizing deeper wall cabinetry on each end, allowing for storage of oversized dishware. The base cabinetry on this wall is made up of drawers, except for the corner, which is a Kesseböhmer LeMans II. This specially designed shelf system allows ease of access in underutilized blind corners. The dual action articulation system with soft close mechanism ensures a smooth open and close. Rounding the corner to the outside wall, the base cabinetry was built to a narrower depth, providing additional space for the island, as well as easier access to the new larger pass-thru window which serves the screen porch. The client selected Black Vermont granite countertops with an ogee edge to contrast the Linen White painted cabinetry. The door to the screen porch was replaced with a Marvin Exterior Door with a raised panel at the bottom of the 3⁄4 glass door. Marvin Windows replaced the other windows in the space increasing the energy efficiency and value of the home. To establish the breakfast nook, a bench with drawers and an upholstered seat was built into the bay area of the room. Custom bookshelves were built with open shelves, cabinet doors, and drawers on either side of the fireplace. A new stone hearth and fireplace surround were installed. Above the existing mantel we built a recessed space for the flat screen television hiding all wiring inside the walls for a completely clean look. The space that was once a desk was transformed into a bar area. The glass shelves and glass cabinet front liquor cabinet stand out. But this bar area has hidden secrets. Tucked beneath the black granite is a Thermador under-counter double drawer refrigerator with matching wood front panels. They blend in perfectly with the cabinets. A wireless printer is easily accessed on a slide out drawer. Plus, what looks like merely wooden panels on the wall are concealing recessed storage for more bottles and glasses! Overhead recessed lighting and speaker system provide illumination and entertainment through the entire space. This luxury home had original, solid oak flooring through most of the first floor which the homeowner obviously wanted to keep but were in desperate need of repair and refinishing. Our master craftsmen wove in new wood flooring to match the old where needed, particularly where walls had been changed and where the floor was damaged. We sanded the floors, smoothing away years of wear and tear. The entire wood floor was then uniformly stained, making it impossible to differentiate where any repairs were made. This customers older but charming home in Paoli PA was in desperate need of a bathroom remodel. The original home owners had added a bath to the first floor but it was thrown together and not what the new homeowners wanted. We remodeled the bathroom from the ground up; reframing the original flooring joists to support a new tile floor, relocated the toilet and sink locations, and adding a new tiled shower. We kept as much of the plaster walls, trims, and radiator to keep the original charm of this old house. We used a simple white subway tile for the new shower with a Dreamline shower door. A sleeker new freestanding tub was installed. A pedestal sink and separate storage cabinet add to the traditional look. Older homes are always more interesting and harder to remodel but this project added both a usable and stylish new bathroom for this growing family.

We undertook a complete renovation of this 2 bedroom Yaletown condo, completely removing the existing finishes. The ceiling was scraped and re-plastered. We installed a new bathroom with a walk in shower, replaced the existing kitchen with a new layout and reframed the dropped ceiling. New chevron oiled wood flooring was laid throughout the unit. The kitchen has custom cabinetry and porcelain slab counter and backsplash. We installed an invisible induction cook top underneath the counter. In this kitchen we demoed the existing flooring and installed new 9x72 Paradigm Odyssey LVP flooring. We put in new alder cabinets finished in White Dove OC-17, paramount doors & drawer fronts. We reframed the pantry to accept new custom pantry cabinet with rollouts. We also added power bars, tray dividers, and floating shelves above the kitchen sink. The kitchen received new quartz countertops and full height backsplash, Amerock Renown cabinet hardware in matte black, new undermount kitchen sink, and new plumbing fixtures. The dry bar has a new base, uppers and floating shelves with quartz countertops to match the kitchen.

On this Marietta, GA home, we completed a full siding replacement using James Hardie HZ10 lap siding in the Woodgrain texture. We also replaced the soffit, fascia, and the gutters. For the windows, we cut in and framed 4 taller double hung windows with 4 transoms above them in place of the circle top and picture window on the front of the home. In the laundry room, we framed and added a new window as well. Along with this, we replaced 32 windows with Master 2800 Series Vinyl DH Replacement Windows and 4 windows with Master 2800 Series Vinyl Transom windows. On the back of the home, we converted the screened-in porch into a sunroom, which included reframing the knee wall, installing new vinyl picture windows, and installing a Therma-Tru door. Lastly, we painted two new coats of paint to the exterior.

Our client contacted us regarding the fireplace he was building in his new home. He decided to be a general contractor and build his house himself, he bought blue prints over the internet. However after framing the home he realized that his fireplace in the main portion of the house was out of proportion . He wanted this fireplace to be the focal point of his home. Client’s Desires: • Larger Fireplace • Wall of Stone • Large Mantel proportion to the size of the fireplace When we first meet our client at his new home, the framing of the fireplace was approx. 6 feet wide and 18 ft. high. After talking to him, we both felt that the fireplace needed to be a lot larger to give that dramatic look, he was looking for. We also suggested, because the wall wrapped into the kitchen that he should have a two sided fireplace with the other side facing his kitchen. We started by re-framing the fireplace to 12.5 feet wide, because of the size we enlarged the insert to 48" opening. We realized when ordering the stone for the fireplace that the weight of the stone was going to be very heavy. When looking at the framing of the house, we got an structural engineer involved to determine the stone weight and beams in the home and that the wall was not a load bearing wall. It was determined that we had to add an additional 6 LVL beams between the two load barring steel beams, to support the weight of the stone. The stone is a 70/30 mix to give it a more rustic look, we wrapped the stone around the wall into the kitchen to give it a beefy look. We had two custom mantels made, the living room mantel is made of alder wood and is 8.5 feet long with a two tier step with custom corbels. The homeowner chose a distress look. The kitchen mantel is more elegant with custom molding to match their kitchen cabinets.

The neighborhood is popular with, and affordable for, young people and families, and very convenient to Washington, DC. In its heyday, the townhouse touted a stately brick exterior, plaster walls, tongue and groove wood flooring and beautiful wooden staircase. Sixty years later, however, the homeowners were faced with crumbling masonry, sagging floors, a double layer of wallpaper over the plaster walls, a crumbling staircase, a dysfunctional kitchen and small, dark second floor rooms. Additionally, the basement had a low ceiling, moldy and cinder block walls, no plumbing and a large boiler taking up most of the space. The homeowners’ goal was to restore the exterior’s historic look while creating an interior up-to-date for the 21st Century. To turn their vision into reality, they turned to Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes. Design Solutions To maintain the townhome’s historic exterior, the Michael Nash team carefully removed, salvaged, restored and reused existing brick masonry. Matching fascia boards and windows were combined with existing windows to complete the exterior renovation. All interior walls were gutted and reframed. The sagging subfloors were fixed, new hard wood floors were installed and a new staircase and railing were designed in a style similar to the original. The solid wall between the kitchen and the dining room was removed, plumbing was relocated for a new sink location and the kitchen got expanded with an island into the dining room. Closet and plumbing stacks were relocated to allow a new space for fridge. Stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and custom cabinetry highlight the new modern kitchen. The owners of this beautiful 1908 NE Portland home wanted to breathe new life into their unfinished basement and dysfunctional main-floor bathroom and mudroom. Our goal was to create comfortable and practical spaces, while staying true to the preferences of the homeowners and age of the home. The existing half bathroom and mudroom were situated in what was originally an enclosed back porch. The homeowners wanted to create a full bathroom on the main floor, along with a functional mudroom off the back entrance. Our team completely gutted the space, reframed the walls, leveled the flooring, and installed upgraded amenities, including a solid surface shower, custom cabinetry, blue tile and marmoleum flooring, and Marvin wood windows. In the basement, we created a laundry room, designated workshop and utility space, and a comfortable family area to shoot pool. The renovated spaces are now up-to-code with insulated and finished walls, heating & cooling, epoxy flooring, and refurbished windows. The newly remodeled spaces achieve the homeowner's desire for function, comfort, and to preserve the unique quality & character of their 1908 residence.
