An old lumber deck and railings were removed and replaced with Trex composite decking and aluminum railing. A gorgeous cedar pergola brings a rustic yet refined feel to the deck.

DULL BEDROOM TRANSFORMED TO THE ULTIMATE IN BAR/WINE RETREAT! This unused bedroom was positioned off a hall close to the breakfast area. KB Design enclosed an existing hall, converted a closet space and removed a Hollywood bath vanity area to reposition entry and create a cozy bar as you walk into this fabulous wine room. Beams were added along with brick accents and custom designed storage to meet every need for the client's extensive collection of wines, champagnes and cigars. Special consideration was given to the arched entrance and the lighting throughout to create the ultimate atmosphere for this wine room!

AFTER - An outstanding part of the transformation included replacing the front door and gate, removing the unused buzzer units, and replacing the mailbox plate. The new solid core, painted three-panel door adds character to the look of the entry as well as strengthens the security of the entrance. We created a custom-designed gate which was powder-coated for longevity. The gate design was carried into the custom-designed mailbox cover, with its bold street numbers and fresh, creative look.

The renovation design opened the interior for improved connectivity between rooms. On the main level, the solution removed interior partitions, an unused fireplace, and an awkward set of basement stairs to integrate the living room, dining area, and kitchen. The renovation to the Hart’s Run Kitchen was not just a simple redesign of the original layout: walls were removed, larger windows were installed, access to the rear deck was relocated, and the relationship between rooms reconfigured. A "must have" for the home owner. A more spacious and luxurious bath. We removed the outdated bathtub and vanity, occupied the unused space at the doorway and created a new entry. the built-in walnut shelves are removable and the hidden door behind it gives access to the bath system panel behind should it ever need servicing. The remote shower system includes a fixed wall mount shower head, rain shower, handheld with slide bar and 2 jets. The remote control located on the inside of the half wall takes care of the rest! The vanity was custom built for the space and color and the pebbled shower floor comforts the feet.

This beautiful 1881 Alameda Victorian cottage, wonderfully embodying the Transitional Gothic-Eastlake era, had most of its original features intact. Our clients, one of whom is a painter, wanted to preserve the beauty of the historic home while modernizing its flow and function. From several small rooms, we created a bright, open artist’s studio. We dug out the basement for a large workshop, extending a new run of stair in keeping with the existing original staircase. While keeping the bones of the house intact, we combined small spaces into large rooms, closed off doorways that were in awkward places, removed unused chimneys, changed the circulation through the house for ease and good sightlines, and made new high doorways that work gracefully with the eleven foot high ceilings. We removed inconsistent picture railings to give wall space for the clients’ art collection and to enhance the height of the rooms. From a poorly laid out kitchen and adjunct utility rooms, we made a large kitchen and family room with nine-foot-high glass doors to a new large deck. A tall wood screen at one end of the deck, fire pit, and seating give the sense of an outdoor room, overlooking the owners’ intensively planted garden. A previous mismatched addition at the side of the house was removed and a cozy outdoor living space made where morning light is received. The original house was segmented into small spaces; the new open design lends itself to the clients’ lifestyle of entertaining groups of people, working from home, and enjoying indoor-outdoor living.
