We planned a thoughtful redesign of this beautiful home while retaining many of the existing features. We wanted this house to feel the immediacy of its environment. So we carried the exterior front entry style into the interiors, too, as a way to bring the beautiful outdoors in. In addition, we added patios to all the bedrooms to make them feel much bigger. Luckily for us, our temperate California climate makes it possible for the patios to be used consistently throughout the year.
The original kitchen design did not have exposed beams, but we decided to replicate the motif of the 30" living room beams in the kitchen as well, making it one of our favorite details of the house. To make the kitchen more functional, we added a second island allowing us to separate kitchen tasks. The sink island works as a food prep area, and the bar island is for mail, crafts, and quick snacks.
We designed the primary bedroom as a relaxation sanctuary – something we highly recommend to all parents. It features some of our favorite things: a cognac leather reading chair next to a fireplace, Scottish plaid fabrics, a vegetable dye rug, art from our favorite cities, and goofy portraits of the kids.

Our customers wanted to transform their dark kitchen into a space that reminded them of their favorite place, the beach! They also wanted to showcase their collection of depression glass. Working with our designer, Tracy West, they successfully transformed their space into a bright, airy retreat. A wall was removed to open up the room. Since there was major plumbing in the soffit area that could not be moved, a unique option was chosen to enclose the space with a frame and doors, replicating stacked cabinetry. Glass cabinets were added to showcase the prized collection of depression glass. Our customer hand picked and supplied the glass hardware knobs and the chandelier pendant lights.

No greater compliment of a material is possible than when stone is selected for a historic property renovation within a home rich in tradition and with a celebrated past. This new feature stair addition to a private residence in Toronto, Canada, has an equally compelling story to tell.
Originally envisioned as a wall-supported, cantilevered stone stair, the owner boldly accepted a unique solution for their showpiece element. The 19-tread stair would be designed with 550 lb. solid stone treads, and fully
liberated from traditional supports and the adjacent rubble wall. To say, “it would float” is not an exaggeration. The stair would be designed as a monolithic beam spanning 16.5 feet, 10 feet high and 41 inches wide. Aesthetically bold, with a reduced tone from
pure black, the basalt stone was the perfect contrast for the white modern interior of the home. The 3-1/2" tension cables played the most important role by resisting the large bending moment generated by the stone load and stair geometry. Fabrication required precise coordination and care to ensure perfect alignment of the interlocking key, and the corresponding cable holes.
The fabrication challenge was achieving the highest level of accuracy in notching, coring, and replicating each tread identically. Expert precision and skill were key to nesting each tread in sequence and simultaneously with the strands. Meticulous alignment and exacting tolerance assured the true performance and aesthetics were delivered. Hydraulic post-tensioning pulled each cable to 120 kiloNewtons or 27,000 lbs, infusing strength and structural integrity. Removing the temporary support and testing was the last critical step—it was the first time the stone stair would be self-supporting.
The “floating” stair is an ultimate achievement and example of innovation, material strength, fabrication quality, installation precision, and expert coordination. A perfect final chapter to a historical journey and modern ode to stone as structure.

Renovating a Victorian townhouse means working with what's already there, exposed brick, original architectural details, and the kind of character that can't be replicated. This two-flight staircase renovation navigates all of it without compromise. The first flight makes a modern statement: solid white oak treads on a central mono steel stringer, vertical square metal balusters, and a clean contemporary rail profile that holds its own against the sun-drenched exposed brick surroundings.
The second flight has more of a traditional feel. Custom fitted around the home's existing historical features, it carries natural white oak treads and handrail alongside white painted risers, warmer and more traditional in feel as it climbs toward the roof. Two flights, two personalities, one staircase that respects where it came from while moving confidently forward.

Shingle-style guest cottage addition with garage below and interior connector from the main dining room of an early 1900 existing house.
Sited so that garage entrance and drive works within the existing landscape elevation and orientation, the guest cottage connects directly to the first floor of the main house. This results in an interesting structural dynamic where the walls of the second floor addition are square to the main house, and the lower garage walls corkscrew at a forty-five degree angle to the walls above.
Inspired by their fond memories of travels to the island of Malta, the client requested warm neutral finishes and chose honed cream marble flooring with tight fitting grout lines and an intricate pattern of a Walker Zanger marble tile for the fireplace surround. "Dove White" walls with "Antique White" trim were selected in traditional simplicity to replicate the standard of the existing house and create a seamless transition to the addition. Locally handcrafted copper sconces gently illuminate the space and maintain the period-style of the home.

Designed to replicate hand-painted cement tiles, the Enchante Collection delivers the aesthetic of encaustic cement tile in a low maintenance, durable color-body porcelain. Select one of our 8”x8” tiles in repeating three patterns: Charm, Splendid and Moderno.

Kimba Crazy Paving + Eyre Walling
Kimba crazy paving: Large pale grey colour and irregular shaped pieces make it a favorite among designers and landscapers. This hard, durable stone is ideal for driveways, pathways, and any other outdoor spaces, offering both style and strength.
Eyre Walling: Eyre can be laid dry stacked with tight joints or grouted. Dry stacked joints should be no greater than 3mm therefore the stone needs to be modified on site by stonemasons. When selecting Eyre we try to go for natural shapes and tones in order to replicate and reflect on a natural environment.
Create your own tranquil retreat with the timeless beauty of natural stone.

Featured here is the custom designed & built range hood.
This kitchen is the epitome of Nantucket meets West Coast Lakefront living. Custom designed range hood and island, and furniture kicks up the ante on this fabulous kitchen. There is even a pantry and boot room off to one side.

There is a reason why the recordings of babbling brooks are a popular choice for white noise. And while it's cool to listen on your smartphone, it doesn't quite compare to the real thing. The Ecoscape design team and artisans created this rustic water feature to replicate rock & pebble streams that can be found on near-by hiking trails. The plantings around the 'stream' are young yet, but will fill in to complete the 'cooling effect' of this water feature area. Nice place to hang out on a hot summer's day...readily available, just out the back door.

A rustic but elegant finish required. Large sash windows dressed with wave curtains. Italian style large family seating desired. Large benches mixed with upholstered benches and faux fur throws for comfort. Tiled wood effect floor for practicality. Antique mirrors and shutters to decorate and bounce light. Replicates shapes of windows and similar mirrors also added to hallways and bedrooms.

This four-story townhome in the heart of old town Alexandria, was recently purchased by a family of four.
The outdated galley kitchen with confined spaces, lack of powder room on main level, dropped down ceiling, partition walls, small bathrooms, and the main level laundry were a few of the deficiencies this family wanted to resolve before moving in.
Starting with the top floor, we converted a small bedroom into a master suite, which has an outdoor deck with beautiful view of old town. We reconfigured the space to create a walk-in closet and another separate closet.
We took some space from the old closet and enlarged the master bath to include a bathtub and a walk-in shower. Double floating vanities and hidden toilet space were also added.
The addition of lighting and glass transoms allows light into staircase leading to the lower level.
On the third level is the perfect space for a girl’s bedroom. A new bathroom with walk-in shower and added space from hallway makes it possible to share this bathroom.
A stackable laundry space was added to the hallway, a few steps away from a new study with built in bookcase, French doors, and matching hardwood floors.
The main level was totally revamped. The walls were taken down, floors got built up to add extra insulation, new wide plank hardwood installed throughout, ceiling raised, and a new HVAC was added for three levels.
The storage closet under the steps was converted to a main level powder room, by relocating the electrical panel.
The new kitchen includes a large island with new plumbing for sink, dishwasher, and lots of storage placed in the center of this open kitchen. The south wall is complete with floor to ceiling cabinetry including a home for a new cooktop and stainless-steel range hood, covered with glass tile backsplash.
The dining room wall was taken down to combine the adjacent area with kitchen. The kitchen includes butler style cabinetry, wine fridge and glass cabinets for display. The old living room fireplace was torn down and revamped with a gas fireplace wrapped in stone.
Built-ins added on both ends of the living room gives floor to ceiling space provides ample display space for art. Plenty of lighting fixtures such as led lights, sconces and ceiling fans make this an immaculate remodel.
We added brick veneer on east wall to replicate the historic old character of old town homes.
The open floor plan with seamless wood floor and central kitchen has added warmth and with a desirable entertaining space.
