A family requested a creative solution for unique moveable study and lounge areas for their school aged kids. The solution was the design of 2 rolling cushioned seats with multiple accessories. The rolling seats are 6 feet in diameter and combine an upholstered cushion, adjustable desk, LED lighting, rear whiteboard, locking blocks and superior craftsmanship to supply the family with an eye-catching piece. The seats have become a favorite location for the kids to attend online classes, view social media, play games, and is always an excellent spot for reading a book.

Our clients requested an energy-efficient escape home on a 16-acre site in rural Elgin that would be maintenance friendly, age-in-place adaptable, and whose sculptural quality could harbor for their expressive family. With its dominant east-west axis, the maximizes control of solar gain control; its placement was carefully adjusted to allow all of the nearby trees to thrive. The standing seam roof’s pitch and azimuth provide optimal solar PV and fills a 20,000-gallon rainwater cistern. The age-in-place, step-less interior provides an expansive view at the south terrace. The cantilever of the board-formed foundation is a structurally expressive solution resolving an otherwise imposing mass. The curved prow of the north-pointing entry is a nod to local Elgin brick. This material offers the elegance of marble without the porosity and grout lines! The client opted for a sandblasted privacy stripe, and a modern lighted mirror which provides amazing light as a primary light source. Some cool features include its color temperature adjustability, dimmable option and fog-free aspect keeping your mornings flowing! Delta has introduced a pull-down faucet that allows for easy cleanup of your vanity bowl! The bidet seat is now a common stream request! One of my favorite clients now has a space deserving of her beauty!

They say home is where the heart is. A place where people enter as guests and leave as friends. A place to laugh with your neighbors and watch as your children run, laugh and play. The O’Connor’s were seeking a way to transform their yard into usable space to provide all these things. As families grow and change it was time to update their landscape to reflect the maturing family and provide the perfect home setting for all. The first thing that needed change was the high maintenance existing pond. This has been designed to be a beautiful, natural focal point in the south side of the backyard. Transformed to a low maintenance waterfall, this gorgeous site hides the noise from the alley and gives the backyard a tranquil, relaxed atmosphere. The water feature borders the boundary of the kid’s new sports court complete with an adjustable basketball hoop. This 93 square meter court is designed to be used in all four seasons. Designed with proper drainage to ensure the kids get optimal basketball time and a 6” curb was installed to allow for an outdoor rink in our colder months. The west side of the sports court is enclosed by a 0.75 meter high concrete retaining wall which contains mature spruce trees for shelter. One special request was to incorporate 2 existing large sandstone boulders into the new landscape. These were placed accordingly in between 2 spruce that have the largest open space between them, creating a natural, interesting sitting area for the kids. Landscape lighting was also incorporated into this bed to highlight the mature spruce trees at night. The retaining wall continues along the west fence line and leads your eyes to a hidden seating area. The area is dropped down three steps from the sports court and secluded by an existing garden bed of trees and shrubs giving it a very cozy setting. The concrete was completed with a stamped Boardwalk pattern, allowing for 49 square meters of an inviting outdoor dining and BBQ area. When designing this area, future plans to phase in a BBQ island and pergola were implemented. To plan for this, the existing shed and BBQ area were removed, and extra concrete footings were installed accordingly to accommodate any added weight of a masonry outdoor kitchen addition. Tucked away in the urban setting, the O’Connor’s new backyard is ready to share with friends and family. The kids now have room to run and play between the sports court and remaining grass area and the adults can relax while enjoying the sounds and smells of the outdoors.

This piece is our modern industrial retail cabinet and shelving unit. The sleek design could fit any modern boutique or vintage style retail setting. When used as a retail fixture, the small footprint does not take up valuable real estate in your establishment! It is handmade by us and can be made in any size or configuration imaginable. The lower cabinet area measures 24” W x 27 ¾” D x 27 ¾” H and is ordained with vintage industrial rivets. We have treated the sides and doors of the piece with a chemical patina that gives it its neutral dark color that matches any décor. The doors could be made with a mesh face or one of our beautiful reclaimed woods. Behind the doors is a fixed center shelf, but it could be made with a removable shelf, none at all or a vertical partition. Locks could also be installed to keep your belongings safe. Eldersburg sunroom styling project- Transitional design- This is the second design project with my client. Sunrooms off the kitchen are a space that typically do not receive the design attention it deserves in most homes. They tend to have a table set, your typical builder chandelier and maybe low-cost blinds. I was excited to bring new life into this minimally used space. The walls were painted a warm green/gray in phase one of this home project with our Paint Consultation services. Phase one also included new flooring and FR Interior Design services. Phase two, a year later, I designed the sunroom and kitchen. Kitchen photos coming soon. The new design began with furniture. We removed their dated oak table and chairs, and my client approved this amazing darker wood Contemporary table set that I selected. This set delivers on my client's request for more seating and the tables stain accents the new flooring beautifully. The table also has additional leaves that will be great for holiday gatherings. I especially love the brass accent at the top of the parson chairs. Next was the new eye-catching crystal chandelier. The shape and size perfectly anchor's the entire room. My client loved the great price too! New custom roman shades bring an elegance to the space and allow for adjustments for daily sun. The small gray bookshelf stores a few of my clients many cookbooks. A small geometric table lamp adds low accent lighting for the evenings. New artwork and accents add a personalized touch to finish off the room. My clients are elated with the results.

The Legendary Rockstar Pool Build — A Backyard Concert Venue and Custom Swimming Pool The Rockstar Pool is one of the most ambitious, imaginative, and large-scale residential pool builds ever completed by Legendary Escapes. Designed and built by Al Curtis, this project was created for a homeowner whose entire life revolves around performance, music, and living boldly. This is far more than a swimming pool. It is a backyard concert venue, a sculpted grotto, a hot tub, a swim-up bar, a VIP lounge, a performance platform, and a fully engineered artistic environment built as a single cohesive experience. A Client With a True Rockstar Life The homeowner’s request was simple in spirit but extraordinary in scale: create a pool environment that matched a life centered on creativity and performance. His background includes jousting at the Michigan Renaissance Festival, on-stage theatrical work, a home rebuilt around music and entertainment, and longstanding connections within the rock world. With a 16-acre horse farm and a passion for bold design, he needed a pool that reflected his personality. His project requirements included a grotto, waterfall, hot tub, swim-up bar, performance area, and multiple lounging zones. Every feature had to feel original, dramatic, and purposeful. The Design Vision Designer and builder Al Curtis immediately recognized that this build needed to be expansive, theatrical, and seamlessly integrated into the landscape. The pool needed to make a statement without obstructing panoramic views of the surrounding farm and open sky. The spark for the design came from an unexpected source: steel grates salvaged from an old carnival tilt-a-whirl ride. This inspired the concept of a floating performance stage built over the pool. What began as a small idea quickly grew into a large-scale platform complete with a concrete stage, integrated lighting, waterfalls, backstage areas, and custom metalwork. As the stage expanded, so did the pool, the patio, and the entire environment—ultimately transforming the backyard into a private amphitheater. Artistic Features and Highlights The Rockstar Pool includes numerous custom artistic elements, such as: A ten-foot mosaic “album cover” inset into the pool floor Eight-foot sculpted guitars along the fence line Guitar-shaped fire features Backlit album panels positioned just above the water A “Rockstar” sign paired with sculpted concrete amplifier towers A VIP seating area built from restored tilt-a-whirl ride cars Every corner of the environment contains layered artistic details. Engineering Challenges and Solutions Creating a fully functional concert stage over the deep end of the pool required extensive planning and engineering. Key complexities included: Designing a safe, weight-bearing steel and concrete stage structure Adjusting stage elevation mid-build to achieve optimal height Installing three complete filtration systems concealed beneath the stage Applying ecoFinish throughout the pool, spa, and grotto Rebuilding existing decking and integrating a three-story observation tower Ensuring the massive pool structure preserved the property’s sightlines The technical demands of this project were matched only by the creative vision behind it.
