A Lovely 1100 sq. bungalow in the heart of Silverlake stood untouched for almost half a century. This home as built was a 2 bedrooms + 1 bathroom with a good size living room. Client purchased it for the sake of turning it into a rental property. With a few good internal twists and space planning we converted this little bungalow into a full blown 3bed + 2.5 bath with a master suite. All of this without adding even 1 square inch to the building. Kitchen was moved to a more central location; a portion of a closet was converted into a powder room and the old utility room/laundry was turned into the master bathroom.

CAPITAL DESIGN: Ionic Order (Roman) - Scamozzi Capital CAPITAL MATERIAL: PolyStone® Fiberglass Composite CAPITAL SIZE: 10" x 4-7/8" x 16-3/8" PROJECT LOCATION: New Haven, Connecticut PROJECT COMMENTS: Consulting with Chadsworth, the architects chose a Scamozzi column capital, which was nearly an exact replica of the severely damaged originals at the main entrance. The house was originally built in 1895. Like much of the house, which had been neglected for many decades, the original capitals ultimately proved to be held together by 150 years of paint. The capitals are a key feature of a strongly symmetrical facade, and the architects were grateful to remain true to the original design intent. This house is a late and rare example of very strict Georgian revival done in the East Rock neighborhood. The original house owner, Moritz Spier, was a warm-hearted coal merchant known to have carried the accounts of hundreds of families through the many economic downturns of that period. The house had few owners, and its highly detailed interior woodwork has thankfully remained unpainted. Because of its large foyer and wide open central staircase, the geometry of the house helped it survive a trend of partitioning large houses into Yale graduate student apartments. The Scamozzi capitals utilized for the renovation of this historic home were (8) of Chadsworth's PolyStone® fiberglass composite capitals. Imagine a classic A-frame cabin reborn in Colorado's South Park, with a bold black exterior that pops against the mountains. The Colorado A-Frame brings modern flair to tradition, using big glass walls to frame epic views and create a light-filled escape that's both striking and serene. In early 2024, our clients asked for a fresh spin on the A-frame, with black metal outside and white inside for contrast. They wanted windows that capture the mountains perfectly, plus ideas for a future "white" version – all to make a versatile, nature-connected retreat. Getting the most from mountain views without compromising on style or strength was key. We positioned the cabin to highlight the scenery, using tough materials to handle the elements and keep the design simple yet impactful. The concept updates the A-frame with sleek lines – black siding for a modern edge, and a soaring 23-foot great room inside. An open staircase in the center lets light and views flow between floors, making the space feel open and inviting. We applied current building methods for durability, with corrugated metal that looks sharp and stands up to weather. The white interior keeps things bright and easy, blending old charm with new efficiency. Downstairs: a central stair, spacious great room, kitchen with rock outcrop views, and guest bedroom with deck. Up top: loft overlooks below, mountain vistas, and master suite with private east deck – perfect for morning coffee in nature. Kicking off in Summer 2024, this cabin is a modern mountain gem that ties tradition to today. It offers views, comfort, and flexibility, turning a simple getaway into a place full of inspiration and peace.

This project consisted of 2 different murals. The hallway mural is of a Japanese stylized wave that flows from wall to wall with the sunset overhead. The scene is very dramatic, as well as colorful. The second mural is a central Texas landscape. It features a brook, a ranch, the moon, an assortment of flora and fauna (cacti, mushrooms, deer, squirrel, bats) and an oak tree with a hawk perched upon one of it’s limbs. All of which is surrounded by a colorful sunset.

The Moongate residence seems to rise naturally from the red rocks, its glass curves strategically designed to capture panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and other remarkable landscapes. This harmonious fusion with nature creates a sense of continuity between inside and out, magnifying the home's overall aesthetic. At the heart of this home, the foyer's glass staircase stands out as a true work of art and engineering prowess. Suspended by steel rods, this staircase with its crystalline stair treads gives the illusion of floating, creating a spectacular visual effect in front of a vast wall of windows. This central element not only adds a touch of modernity and refinement, it also becomes a captivating focal point that impresses from the moment you enter. This rectangular, sun-drenched pool area is flawlessly integrated into the vast, open landscape, offering a feeling of luxurious escape. The design features a clean-lined pool with an elegant water feature that adds a gentle, soothing ambiance. An adjacent raised, square spa, clad in warm-toned natural stone, provides the ultimate spot for year-round indulgence and relaxation. The expansive, light-colored decking defines the outdoor living space, thoughtfully sectioning areas for activity. Central to the lounge area is a square fire pit, also finished in coordinating stone, perfect for evening gatherings. Comfort is paramount, with elegant, suspended cantilever umbrellas providing shade for the tanning loungers, while a row of classic wooden rocking chairs lines the perimeter, offering a picturesque spot to take in the unobstructed views of the surrounding countryside.
