A less than impressive entry and a deteriorating brick floor coupled with a truncated porch roof detracted from the overall curb appeal of this 1989 residence. A design-build project by The Buckingham Group transformed the home’s front elevation. Cedar posts and beams surrounding the garage doors as well as supporting posts for the porch were eliminated. The roof and the entry floor of the porch were removed and selected sections of the original brick veneer were removed from the walls and salvaged. A new porch roof, with a graceful arch, was framed. Hand tooled, dry stacked limestone replaced the structural wood elements, while the salvaged brick veneer was reinstalled. A stamped and stained concrete floor that now matches the sidewalk was poured, replacing the crumbling brick entry floor. The front entrance now features two dry stack stone pillars that are crowned with a beautiful stone arch. The porch roof is accented with a copper barrel top architectural focal point. The home now sports a gracious front entry with new pendant lighting that not only welcomes, but invites guests to the interior.
Find the right local pro for your project

Your roof is arguably one of the most important elements of your entire home exterior. It serves the incredibly important function of protecting your home from the elements, but it is also a large portion of your home’s aesthetic design. The right material or design of shingle can really accentuate the color and décor of your home. Beyond that, what your roof is made of will affect its lifespan and ability to keep your property safe from the elements.

The entry was redesigned with a wider sidewalk and a contemporary steel canopy that projected from a new enclosure which hid the hose bib, sprinkler valves, and gardening tools. The enclosure also provided more architectural interest to the garage wall elevation, an added dimension that clearly delineated the garage from the entryway.

The finished enclosure was clad in the same horizontal siding used on the rest of the home. An inset door with a touch-latch feature created a seamless look to the enclosure, while providing easy access to the hose bib and gardening tools hidden inside.

We designed the unique roofline of this custom home in accordance with the city’s strict height restrictions, carefully upheld to preserve beautiful views of the city, water, and Stanley Park. The result is a standing-seam metal roof that doubles as a tool—maximizing the region’s abundant rainfall by gathering rain water and funneling it into a Zen garden below.
The entire main level enjoys an open-concept plan and varying ceiling heights, creating a sense of variation throughout the house. The master suite, offering incredible views, is located opposite the secondary bedrooms, while three covered balconies provide multiple places to enjoy the outdoors, even in the rain.
