This house was designed for a couple and their son. One of the design program requirements was to have two master suites on the main level. They enjoy cooking and entertaining so the public and food prep. areas are functional, attractive and conducive to people gathering around. Consequently, the square footage of the main level is large. The house is also on a very steep slope which didn't help with the required footprint. In order to minimize the related costs of building with this site condition, the footprint of the house is long and not deep as it reaches down the slope. The scale of the existing homes in the neighborhood are unimposing. In order to play down the size as viewed from the street, the facade is broken up into several different masses with low sloping roofs. Once you're inside, the house opens up with 14 foot ceilings in the entry and living areas. The ceiling height of other spaces on the main level are 10 feet. Universal design was implemented on the main level to provide inherent accessibility for everyone. The lower level accommodates several guest rooms and baths, an exercise room, a guest den with wet bar and a man cave. Another design program requirement was to make the house as maintenance-free as possible. Exterior materials include stucco, Pennsylvania Blue Stone and a new aluminum siding product called Longboard. The siding comes in many wood grain finishes and to everyone that has seen it, they think it's real wood. It's also made from heavy gauge aluminum so it doesn't ding like traditional aluminum siding. The roofs are metal standing seam. The house is energy efficient. It's fully insulated with spray foam insulation-lots of it. The exterior walls were designed with 2x6 studs and roof rafters are 2x12 to provide plenty of space for the insulation, exceeding the required R-values. Windows and doors of course are energy efficient as well. All lighting is LED. The decking around the exterior is locust, a very hard native wood which is naturally insect and rot resistant. The best part of the whole project are the owners who love their new home. They initially had plans to live in this house during the summer months and Florida during the winter. They are now seriously considering living here full-time.

Kitchen Over 150K If you ever found yourself shopping for a new home, finding a model home, falling in love with this model home and immediately signing on the dotted line. Yet after a few months of moving into your new home you realize that the kitchen and the layout of main level will not work out for your lifestyle. The model home you fell in love with was furnished with beautiful furniture distracting you from concentrating on what is really important to you. This is what happened to this couple in Ashburn, VA, after purchasing their dream home. The kitchen lacked natural light, while its location was not ideal and was disrupting their daily routine. After a careful review of the kitchen design, a plan was formed to upgrade the kitchen. Their kitchen was moved to a location between the two-story family room and front dining room. To the left of the family room there was a breakfast eating area that was not serving any purpose. Our design incorporated the breakfast area placed along a couple feet from an adjacent pantry space to create this new dream kitchen. By knocking down a few bearing walls, we have placed the main sink area under large backside windows. Now the kitchen can look into their beautiful backyard. A major load bearing wall between the old breakfast room and adjacent two-story family was taken down and a big steel beam took the place of that, creating a large seamless connection between the new kitchen and the rest of the home. A large island was implemented with a prep sink, microwave, and with lots of seating space around it. Large scale professional appliances along with stunning mosaic backsplash tiles complement this amazing kitchen design. Double barn style door in front of the pantry area sets off this storage space tucked away from rest of the kitchen. All the old tile was removed and a matching wide plank distressed wood floor was installed to create a seamless connection to rest of the home. A matching butler pantry cabinet area just outside of dining room and a wine station/drink serving area between family room and main foyer were added to better utilize the multi-function needs of the family. The custom inset cabinetry with double layers and exotic stone counter top, distressed ceiling beams, and other amenities are just a few standouts of this project.

Refacing project- Showplace Wood Product- Renew. Here is an example of one of my refacing projects. We used Showplace Wood Products- Renew program! We went with Showplace's Galena Door Style, in Paint Grade with Mocha Paint and an Ivory Glaze. This is another option instead of going with new cabinets that can often help save you money, saves time and it gives you the option of keeping your existing counters. We can still add any new cabinet if need be, like we did on this project. You sure cannot tell that these were my client's existing cabinets! The existing cabinets were originally plain old red oak cabinets. I've got say, it sure looks like we went with new ones. They didn't want the expense of removing and replacing their existing granite counter tops, they also wanted to do away with the desk area, add some wine storage and a new wood counter. We added a bookcase on the end of the island for cookbooks and replace their old sink with a new stainless farm sink and of course, a new tiled back splash! The backsplash tile is handcrafted by Status Tile, a 3x6 subway ceramic tile called Cristal Square Edge in color Champagne was used as the field tile and tope row is color Dune. The mosaic liner detail is Dal Tile's Illimini Sand F009 (size 5/8 x 5/8 Mosaic on 12x12 sheet) that we cut down into three row strips.

In the previous layout, the basement stairs were located approximately where the new kitchen island sits. The stairs were relocated, and walls were removed in order to open this space up. This new open concept space allows for better entertaining and holiday hosting.

This Georgian Colonial anchoring the culdesac is just a beauty. It is so apparent that light defines space and more so enables us to see what we see. Strategic landscaping by our crew allowed tall slender trees to anchor the road presentation and support the landscape in the front yard. Ofcourse all the landscape design had great lighting right behind it as well. Various strategies such as cross lighting, front lighting, silhouetting, down lighting and low level lighting allowed accent lighting to shine it's thing on what I thought was some of the most interesting and striking Focal specimens in the Landscape. The levels of brightness play a dominant role in direction of the welcoming of the house to others as there are several options for entry and light brightness helps direct the guests to the door. As most homeowners drive into the garage to enter the home they don't think about the approach in the dark as much as we do. Outdoor lighting on the house and fixtures secured to the home have to be at times toned down or aligned with light intensity to match the landscape lighting. Finish pointing at night and night time photography which we do as part of our landscape lighting installation approach shows these details best. It gives us an opportunity to adjust beam sprays, add lens covers and readjust the landscape lighting fixtures for more optimal results.

Description of Waterfront Home Design Challenge: The task was to fill a vast space with 14-foot walls soaring to a peak of 30 feet, using cabinetry that would not appear undervalued or insubstantial. The main question was determining the appropriate height for the cabinetry, considering the scale and proportion of the space, the walk-through to adjoining rooms, window heights, and the height of the refrigerator. Solution: By carefully analyzing these factors, we were able to create cabinetry that perfectly scaled to the grand dimensions of the room. The floor plan featured two islands that effectively filled the space. Key elements included #TheGalley workstations, drop-down televisions, #MouserCabinetry, and secret doors leading to a hidden scullery, all contributing to an extraordinary project.

With limited travel options available during the pandemic, everyone is spending lots more time at home. Many are even looking for ways to incorporate interior design elements from their favorite destinations into their spaces: this lets you feel like you’re traveling, even when you’re not. This project was my own personal quarantine design dream: to create an interior scheme for my sunroom that captures the color, joy and exuberance of those brilliant indoor/outdoor spaces you find in Mexico. My sunroom is filled with sunshine, and sunshine makes my kids think of two beach vacations we took to Cancun. Since we couldn't take them there, or anywhere, I decided to bring a little bit of Mexico home. As a backdrop, I embraced our floor to ceiling windows, great white wood paneled walls, and terra cotta floor tile, and added a soothing blue green paint to the beadboard ceiling, which to me is the color of a pool (Sherwin Williams Waterfall). Over the terra cotta tile, I layered a bright pink rug and pulled out the turquoise and yellow accents for the furniture. The furniture is at least 60 years old and will not fit out of the doors, so I had it resprayed in place and had new cushions made in indoor outdoor fabric (and trimmed it in hot pink tape). On the sofa and chair, I collected brightly colored pillows, including one that is authentic Peruvian craftwork. A teal telescope tempts young stargazers. The piece de resistance of this whole seating grouping is the coffee table. It was originally a stained wood coffee table that inhabited my in-laws’ living room in pristine condition for many years. Then it came to my house, where my son proceeded to bang his trains against it and generally abused and dented it. I had it sanded down and painted Sherwin Williams Green Bay. Over this teal colored base, my mother, who’s an artist, painted the most beautiful design of birds and flowers for me based on the Otomi tradition of Mexican embroidery. Otomi embroidery motifs typically incorporate animals and plants native to the Tenango area in central Mexico.

Our design vision was to create a home that was one of a kind, and fit each and every need of the client. We created an open floor plan on the first floor with 10 ft ceilings and expansive views out to the main floor balcony. The first floor also features a primary suite, also referred to as “the apartment” where our homeowners have a primary bath, walk-in closet, coffee bar and laundry room. The primary bedroom includes a vaulted ceiling with direct access to the outside deck and an accent trim wall. The primary bath features a large open shower with multiple showering options and separate water closet. The second floor has unique elements for each of their children. As you walk up the stairs, there is a bonus room and study area for them. The second floor features a unique split level design, giving the bonus room a 10 ft ceiling. As you continue down the hallway there are individual bedrooms, second floor laundry, and a bathroom that won’t slow anyone down while getting ready in the morning.

This custom home in heart of Great Falls Village, has been an elder couple's home for years. Since moving to this large home, they had a different vision for the main level of the home, specifically the kitchen, sunroom and laundry area. The wife loves modern arts, modern cabinets, sleek counter tops and floors. The breakfast room was separated by a bearing wall from the kitchen space. The kitchen was confined with surrounding walls and disconnected from rest of the main level. Tall eleven foot ceiling with large scale coved crown molding was a signature mark of this home and she wanted to continue that look throughout the new remodeled area. We took down the middle bearing wall by inserting structural beams, moved the back wall into the laundry space to create a pantry and a space for wall cabinets, and on the opposite side created space for a desk area. We implemented two large scale islands with all kinds of amenities such as an espresso maker, warming drawer, steam oven all wrapped in waterfall quartz. We relocated major soil stack and duct chases to allow taller cabinetry and open the flow between the two new spaces, Our expert designers cleverly implemented French doors and used long plank porcelain tile for seamless connections among all new space. Modern style glossy white cabinetry with exquisite selection of hardware and carefully selected quartz top brightens up this new kitchen. A new and modern laundry room was designed and got added to front side of the kitchen. Clever placement of LED lighting, pendent lights and under cabinet lights, brightens up this kitchen.
