We were excited to take on this full home remodel with our Arvada clients! They have been living in their home for years, and were ready to delve into some major construction to make their home a perfect fit. This home had a lot of its original 1970s features, and we were able to work together to make updates throughout their home to make it fit their more modern tastes. We started by lowering their raised living room to make it level with the rest of their first floor; this not only removed a major tripping hazard, but also gave them a lot more flexibility when it came to placing furniture. To make their newly leveled first floor feel more cohesive we also replaced their mixed flooring with a gorgeous engineered wood flooring throughout the whole first floor. But the second floor wasn’t left out, we also updated their carpet with a subtle patterned grey beauty that tied in with the colors we utilized on the first floor. New taller baseboards throughout their entire home also helped to unify the spaces and brought the update full circle. One of the most dramatic changes we made was to take down all of the original wood railings and replace them custom steel railings. Our goal was to design a staircase that felt lighter and created less of a visual barrier between spaces. We painted the existing stringer a crisp white, and to balance out the cool steel finish, we opted for a wooden handrail. We also replaced the original carpet wrapped steps with dark wooden steps that coordinate with the finish of the handrail. Lighting has a major impact on how we feel about the space we’re in, and we took on this home’s lighting problems head on. By adding recessed lighting to the family room, and replacing all of the light fixtures on the first floor we were able to create more even lighting throughout their home as well as add in a few fun accents in the dining room and stairwell. To update the fireplace in the family room we replaced the original mantel with a dark solid wood beam to clean up the lines of the fireplace. We also replaced the original mirrored gold doors with a more contemporary dark steel finished to help them blend in better. The Mullens were looking for a fresh, updated Master Bath design that would be comfortable and soothing as well as up to date. First things first! The green cultured marble bathtub and shower had to go! The rest was a piece of cake. Made a trip to the tile shop and it was smooth sailing after selections were finalized. After a trip to Paris, my client was inspired to create a space that was reminiscent of the hotel that they stayed in. I utilized striped wallpaper, hydrangea and blue woven fabrics along with and a variety of cotton twills to create a soft and comfortable environment. The Parisian flare was added in the selection of the furniture pieces and lighting.

We designed the kitchen to be the real hub of the home—connected to the dining and living spaces, but with enough room to cook without tripping over guests. Hardwood floors, recessed lighting, and open sightlines make it feel bright and inviting. Since the finishes are still open for selection, you get to choose your countertops, backsplash, and cabinetry style so it’s 100% your taste from day one.

In this project the home owner was a furniture importer, so she had an amazing array of decorative elements to add to the design. After spending years traveling through Indonesia and India on buying trips, she wanted a taste of the tropics in her own back yard. We worked together to incorporate her beautiful objects into an undeniably tropical-feeling space. By carefully selecting plants and their placement, we were able to achieve the lush green feel of Bali or Hawaii in the Southern California climate without using a lot of water. After installation, this oasis is alive with birds and dragonflies. Lush green plantings create microclimates around the house that help cool the property on hot days. Integrating edible trees provides the homeowner with pomegranates, several types of guavas, lemons, limes, and bananas. Today, the homeowner rents out her home and garden for photo shoots and weddings.

Simple but elegant pendant lighting above the island adds ambiance. This open floor plan now provides a large congregating space with extra seating. This galley style kitchen is a chef's delight with a comfortable golden triangle, exceptional appliances and functional features in the cabinetry. The European style frameless cabinetry consists of premium hard rock maple melamine boxes, doors and drawer fronts, finished in a weathered slate spray stain with satin finish lacquer. Features include soft-close cabinet doors and blu-motion slides in the drawers. The show-stopping feature in this kitchen is the stunning island counter top comprised of white and grey Brazilian Arabescato marble, which is a trapezoid shape to accommodate additional seating within the kitchen. The perimeter counter tops are organic white quartz. The rectangular glass tile back splash selection further complements the glass and stainless steel of the cabinetry and appliances, tying the entire look together. Hardwood flooring was installed throughout the main floor for a seamless look to integrate the living room, dining area and kitchen, which creates the feeling of spaciousness. The addition of decor accents in vibrant orange and red adds interest and character to the cool colour palette of the neutral grey tones in the cabinetry and finishes.
