Inspiration for a contemporary home gym remodel in Orange County

The owners of this beautiful historic farmhouse had been painstakingly restoring it bit by bit. One of the last items on their list was to create a wrap-around front porch to create a more distinct and obvious entrance to the front of their home. Aside from the functional reasons for the new porch, our client also had very specific ideas for its design. She wanted to recreate her grandmother’s porch so that she could carry on the same wonderful traditions with her own grandchildren someday. Key requirements for this front porch remodel included: - Creating a seamless connection to the main house. - A floorplan with areas for dining, reading, having coffee and playing games. - Respecting and maintaining the historic details of the home and making sure the addition felt authentic. Upon entering, you will notice the authentic real pine porch decking. Real windows were used instead of three season porch windows which also have molding around them to match the existing home’s windows. The left wing of the porch includes a dining area and a game and craft space. Ceiling fans provide light and additional comfort in the summer months. Iron wall sconces supply additional lighting throughout. Exposed rafters with hidden fasteners were used in the ceiling. Handmade shiplap graces the walls. On the left side of the front porch, a reading area enjoys plenty of natural light from the windows. The new porch blends perfectly with the existing home much nicer front facade. There is a clear front entrance to the home, where previously guests weren’t sure where to enter. We successfully created a place for the client to enjoy with her future grandchildren that’s filled with nostalgic nods to the memories she made with her own grandmother. Entry Console in French Country inspired furnishings project. Project scope included selecting new flooring and refurnishing the entry, living room, and dining room of this family home. The client's heirloom dining set and some existing art and accessories was inspiration for the French Country influence. This budget friendly furnishings project needed to include a pull-out sofa for overnight guests, and curtains for light control when used for sleeping, plenty of seating for hosting gatherings, and storage for some supplies and instruments for family jam sessions.

The Women’s Rowing Club is one of the original structures in Pacific Beach, built in 1907 and was designed by architect Lillian J. Rice. The landscape was designed by Kate Sessions, the iconic American botanist, horticulturalist, and landscape architect closely associated with San Diego, California, and known as the “Mother of Balboa Park.” Lillian J. Rice was also the architect who supervised the development of Rancho Santa Fe. The club was founded in 1892 and provides a visual reminder that America’s oldest women’s rowing club works to preserve its past and encourages future interest in the sport.

This client desired a multifunctional space to use for her daily yoga practice and private teaching sessions along with a cozy spot for her family to watch movies and guests to spend the weekend. We first started by lightening the walls with a creamy white paint, then added a focal point with an accent wallpaper and upgraded to a modern sleek ceiling fan. With the addition of a guest bed disguised in this elegant cabinet, cozy futon chairs, black out shades and flowing sheer curtains we checked off all the boxes for this amazing space.
