This two-tiered space offers lower level seating near the swimming pool and upper level seating for a view of the Illinois River. Planter boxes with annuals, perennials and container plantings warm the space. The retaining walls add additional seating space and a small grill enclosure is tucked away in the corner.

This soft contemporary home was uniquely designed to evoke a coastal design feeling while maintaining a Hill Country style native to its environment. The final design resulted in a beautifully minimalistic, transparent, and inviting home. The light exterior stucco paired with geometric forms and contemporary details such as galvanized brackets, frameless glass and linear railings achieves the precise coastal contemporary look the clients desired. The open floor plan visually connects multiple rooms to each other, creating a seamless flow from the formal living, kitchen and family rooms and ties the upper floor to the lower. This transparent theme even begins at the front door and extends all the way through to the exterior porches and views beyond via large frameless glazing. The overall design is kept basic in form, allowing the architecture to shine through in the detailing.

This was a tastefully remodeled home in Atlanta, It had a Tuscan feel. The clients wanted a classic and simple pool design that was also simple and easy to take care of. We designed and installed this Formal pool with an automatic cover system. The pool also has swim jets on one side for a endless swim. The hot tub is also submerged just below the cover, so it all can be covered to keep it clean and warm. The Cedar Pergolas give a shaded place to relax and the ceiling fans help keep the bugs away. The travertine tile gives the space an eleagant, clean and cool feel. Also note how we dressed up the garage face, using an old fake door and planting to soften the facade. The drainage system is hidden on the outter edge of the pool deck. There is also night time lighting and a drip irrigation system. Mark Schisler, Legacy Landscapes, Inc. .
Betz Pools Limited
This suburban family wanted to turn their small backyard into an oasis for casual evening entertaining. They assumed their budget would only allow for a large hot tub or small fibreglass pool. Thankfully, the designers at Betz came up with an innovative and affordable solution based on a custom spa/pool. (15 x 18 custom rectangular)

The South Beach Miami penthouse pool and spa is a custom designed project with stainless steel and 1x1 specialty glass tile created to continue the decadent vibe of a rooftop scene to take your breath away. The creative design includes unique pool features such as the submerged stools, the accessible table-functioning edge, and its step-level details that match the surrounding top deck environment.
The overall pool design is to elevate you to the stunning view with the hot tub above the pool, yet keep the whole structure as a low-lying position on the deck. The stainless steel construction was ideally suited for ocean side, high salt area. A negative edge creates a stunning vanishing edge which effectively blurs the line between pool and the ocean beyond.
It features stools as part of the pool structure allowing for seated access inside the pool to the table designed to overhang the pool edge. The weight of a large top floor pool was overcome by the customized stainless steel material.

The homeowners of this mid-century Colonial and family of four were frustrated with the layout of their existing kitchen which was a small, narrow peninsula layout but that was adjoining a large space that they could not figure out how to use. Stealing part of the unused space seemed like an easy solution, except that there was an existing transition in floor height which made that a bit tricky. The solution of bringing the floor height up to meet the height of the existing kitchen allowed us to do just that.
This solution also offered some challenges. The exterior door had to be raised which resulted in some exterior rework, and the floor transition had to happen somewhere to get out to the garage, so we ended up “pushing” it towards what is now a new mudroom and powder room area. This solution allows for a small but functional and hidden mudroom area and more private powder room situation.
Another challenge of the design was the very narrow space. To minimize issues with this, we moved the location of the refrigerator into the newly found space which gave us an L-shaped layout allowing for an island and even some shallow pantry storage. The windows over the kitchen sink were expanded in size and relocated to allow more light into the room. A breakfast table fits perfectly in the area adjacent to the existing French doors and there was even room for a small bar area that helps transition from inside to outside for entertaining. The confusing unused space now makes sense and provides functionality on a daily basis.
To help bring some calm to this busy family, a pallet of soft neutrals was chosen -- gray glass tile with a simple metal accent strip, clear modern pendant lights and a neutral color scheme for cabinetry and countertops.

Ward Jewell Architect AIA
Ward Jewell, AIA was asked to design a comfortable one-story stone and wood pool house that was "barn-like" in keeping with the owner’s gentleman farmer concept. Thus, Mr. Jewell was inspired to create an elegant New England Stone Farm House designed to provide an exceptional environment for them to live, entertain, cook and swim in the large reflection lap pool.
Mr. Jewell envisioned a dramatic vaulted great room with hand selected 200 year old reclaimed wood beams and 10 foot tall pocketing French doors that would connect the house to a pool, deck areas, loggia and lush garden spaces, thus bringing the outdoors in. A large cupola “lantern clerestory” in the main vaulted ceiling casts a natural warm light over the graceful room below. The rustic walk-in stone fireplace provides a central focal point for the inviting living room lounge. Important to the functionality of the pool house are a chef’s working farm kitchen with open cabinetry, free-standing stove and a soapstone topped central island with bar height seating. Grey washed barn doors glide open to reveal a vaulted and beamed quilting room with full bath and a vaulted and beamed library/guest room with full bath that bookend the main space.
The private garden expanded and evolved over time. After purchasing two adjacent lots, the owners decided to redesign the garden and unify it by eliminating the tennis court, relocating the pool and building an inspired "barn". The concept behind the garden’s new design came from Thomas Jefferson’s home at Monticello with its wandering paths, orchards, and experimental vegetable garden. As a result this small organic farm, was born. Today the farm produces more than fifty varieties of vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers; many of which are rare and hard to find locally. The farm also grows a wide variety of fruits including plums, pluots, nectarines, apricots, apples, figs, peaches, guavas, avocados (Haas, Fuerte and Reed), olives, pomegranates, persimmons, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and ten different types of citrus. The remaining areas consist of drought-tolerant sweeps of rosemary, lavender, rockrose, and sage all of which attract butterflies and dueling hummingbirds.

Platinum Site Development
When your client sets forth guidelines for his project such as wanting a resort style feel, a Hampton-esque look, form, high function and most importantly, show stopping beauty, Platinum’s team of designers had to dig deep into their resolve and were able to bring up this winner. The dimensions of the main pool are a modest 20’x40’ but when incorporated with an 18’x9’ sundeck and a massive 10’x12’ spa, this pool and spa combo dwarfs most. The spa boasts 12 hydrotherapy jets, two custom hydrotherapy lounges, LED lighting throughout, and full spa-side controls. Coupled with the massive 16-foot-tall fireplace, custom built pergola with bluestone accents that sits approximately 20 feet wide and a grill island complete with a 42” Wolf range, this project is inspiring from first glance.
This backyard retreat was featured in the Techo-Bloc 2014 Sales Catalog and won two awards: Long Island Pool & Spa Association (LIPSA) and the Bronze Award for Gunite Pool/Spa Combo. See more here: https://www.platinumsdgroup.com/swimming-pool-cold-spring-harbor-ny
