Challenge: To update this 1980's kitchen without adding space and within a budget that felt comfortable for the clients. Many restrictions and limitations existing making this one of the most challenging and problem solving task I had ever undertaken. These include the integrity of the carrying beam which had to remain that held up the second story, a transition to a vaulted ceiling in the adjacent Family Room, a support wall and column that need to be designed around as well as many unseen restrictions inside walls that presented interesting issues to the desired design and some very creative problem solving. Our client was ready for a re-do and approached Renovisions for help to design and build a beautiful and durable space that will last as well as add value to her home. The challenge was to design the new kitchen to allow for better traffic, flow and functionalize this space for much needed storage. Moving the refrigerator to the other side of the kitchen and opening up a section of the wall between the dining room and kitchen was a great design solution. We increased the flow to the dining room and created a spacious feel with better access from the dining area. Warm hues from the granite countertops provided a rich contrast to the Ivory colored cabinetry that brightened up the room. Under-cabinet lighting was added over all countertop areas and is controlled by a dimmer switch for both task and ambient lighting. The brushed nickel hardware compliments the stainless steel appliances and Jado pull-down single lever faucet. The walls are a warm and inviting earthy green tone and ties in well with the soft linen hue of the beautiful subway tile backsplash. Simple, clean lines and earthy materials like granite and stainless steel worked together to soften the whole look. Renovisions turned this outdated kitchen into a magnificent space where this homeowner plans on spending a lot of time.

Time had stood still at this 1970s ranch in Armonk when the owners invited us to collaborate with them to transform it into a modern, light-filled home for their young family. The budget was lean, so economy was a primary consideration for every design decision. The challenge was to identify the modest home’s virtues – vaulted ceilings and a lovely backyard – and accentuate them by strategically optimizing available funds. We were tasked with rectifying a dysfunctional interior stair, connecting to the outdoors with new large windows, and updating the exterior. We focused our attention on a finite set of architectural moves which would have the biggest impact and improve our clients’ daily experience of the home. Detailing was kept simple, using common grade materials and standard components. All exterior walls were revamped with new windows and siding. Although these materials were not particularly costly, thoughtful layout of boards, battens, and openings produced a cohesive, rigorous composition at each facade. Since the budget would not cover the homeowners’ complete wish list, some items were bracketed for subsequent phases. The challenge was to establish a framework that would allow future work – including a new roof and kitchen renovation – to proceed smoothly. The homeowners, both scientists, were enthusiastic collaborators, contributing their outstanding design sensibilities to selection of fixtures and finishes. Construction ended just in time for the arrival of their baby – and with that, the transformation of their family home was complete.

The first floor of this Bi-level home had 3 rooms; a family room, a dining room, and a 10x10 kitchen. The clients wanted a more open floor plan and an expanded kitchen area. Nothing a 23’ beam couldn’t solve and like a magic trick; no walls. The original kitchen window was left untouched and now it seems like it was meant to have the new kitchen around it. A back entry door into the kitchen was removed and the dining room’s window was turned into a sliding door to the patio. The newly expanded kitchen was designed in Fabuwood cabinetry in the Galaxy Nickle door style. The new large butcher block island top becomes center stage. The houses original hardwood floors were repaired, refinished and added to. A simple subway tile backsplash with focal above the cooktop pops with the contrasting grout. New LED recessed lighting throughout and LED under cabinet task lighting will make sure this new space is never dark and dreary. Now the clients have a fantastic new place to live and entertain.

A face lift for one of our favorite clients//Traditional Master Suite Interior Design. When beginning to work with this couple, they loved their large scale, beautiful wood furniture. They tasked Senior Designer Cori Dyer with giving their Master Suite a face lift and a look worthy of the phrase Master "Suite" The result was a calm and crisp but still traditional, beautiful space. The design of this home drew upon historical styles, preserving the essentials of the original movement while updating these elements with clean lines and modern materials. Peers Homestead drew upon the American Farmhouse. The architectural design was based on several factors: orientation with views and connection to seasonal water elements, glass cubes, simplistic form and material palette, and steel accents with structure and cladding. To capture views, the floor to ceiling windows in the great room bring in the natural environment into the home and were oriented to face the Spanish Peaks. The great room’s simple gable roof and square room shape, accompanied by the large glass walls and a high ceiling, create an impressive glass cube effect. Following a contemporary trend for windows, thin-frame, aluminum clad windows were utilized for the high performance qualities as well as the aesthetic appeal. (Photos by Whitney Kamman)
