Cork floors installed throughout give the home a warm and eco-friendly foundation. Pine-cones, tree trunk cookies, plants and lots of unstained wood make the family's focus on nature clear. The result: a beautiful and light-filled but relaxed and practical family space.

She brings a personalization that feels like getting advice from a family member at the same time adding helpful details of her industry knowledge. Her flexibly in work style allows her to come with plans fully researched and developed or to advise, plan and draw on the spot. She has been willing to do as much as we needed or to let us roll with our own ideas and time frame and consult with her as needed.

Horizontal stainless steel cables are anchored with sturdy, high-quality turnbuckles for a clean, architectural look. A distinctive V-pattern spans every two panels, adding sculptural rhythm and subtle movement. The trellis supports climbing vines and acts as a beautifully detailed backdrop that elevates the side yard experience.

We transformed this space by removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room to create a much more open and inviting kitchen. The island is made of redwood from an old barn in Livermore, CA, with custom steel trim work and barn door hardware made by Ridgecrest.

Schwartz and ArchitectureSaA was hired to design a state-of-the-art 2,100 sq ft recording studio and performance space. We negotiated the purchase and disassembly of a rural barn in upstate New York. The lumber was then graded and coded in Texas and shipped to our site for a modern-day barn-raising, deep within a Redwood grove. The studio is a part of a larger design for a family retreat, including five new or renovated buildings on this wooded 80-acre site.
