"When I first visited the client's house, and before seeing the space, I sat down with my clients to understand their needs. They told me they were getting ready to remodel their bathroom and master closet, and they wanted to get some ideas on how to make their closet better. The told me they wanted to figure out the closet before they did anything, so they presented their ideas to me, which included building walls in the space to create a larger master closet. I couldn't visual what they were explaining, so we went to the space. As soon as I got in the space, it was clear to me that we didn't need to build walls, we just needed to have the current closets torn out and replaced with wardrobes, create some shelving space for shoes and build an island with drawers in a bench. When I proposed that solution, they both looked at me with big smiles on their faces and said, 'That is the best idea we've heard, let's do it', then they asked me if I could design the vanity as well.
"I used 3/4" Melamine, Italian walnut, and Donatello thermofoil. The client provided their own countertops." - Leslie Klinck, Designer

This 1990's home, located in North Vancouver's Lynn Valley neighbourhood, had high ceilings and a great open plan layout but the decor was straight out of the 90's complete with sponge painted walls in dark earth tones. The owners, a young professional couple, enlisted our help to take it from dated and dreary to modern and bright. We started by removing details like chair rails and crown mouldings, that did not suit the modern architectural lines of the home. We replaced the heavily worn wood floors with a new high end, light coloured, wood-look laminate that will withstand the wear and tear from their two energetic golden retrievers. Since the main living space is completely open plan it was important that we work with simple consistent finishes for a clean modern look. The all white kitchen features flat doors with minimal hardware and a solid surface marble-look countertop and backsplash. We modernized all of the lighting and updated the bathrooms and master bedroom as well. The only departure from our clean modern scheme is found in the dressing room where the client was looking for a more dressed up feminine feel but we kept a thread of grey consistent even in this more vivid colour scheme. This transformation, featuring the clients' gorgeous original artwork and new custom designed furnishings is admittedly one of our favourite projects to date!

The decision to keep the original cabinet boxes meant simply replacing the cabinet drawers and drawer fronts for a refreshing transformation. The porcelain tile floor has the unmistakable look of brick without the struggle to keep it clean. New appliances, stylish range hood, and a new cabinet box for the refrigerator. A custom island located in the original dining nook satisfies the client's number one request, providing a place to drink wine and make cookies.

A 5-foot shower was added to this smaller bathroom to replace an old tub that was simply outdated and unsafe. I designed a tiled seat and niche for soap and bottles, along with two shower faucets. The fixed Moen 8-inch shower head provides great water pressure and a wider flow of water as well. The handshower by Hansgrohe is convenient for bathing when sitting on the seat, as well as for cleaning the surrounding tile and door. The custom glass door is almost 7-feet in height and is clear so the beautiful gray and white tile with marble veining shows off clearly as well. A matching grab bar was installed for safety.

Goals
Our clients loved the functionality of their kitchen, however, not the outdated look. They desired to keep the kitchen’s original layout while simply bringing in a modern aesthetic.
Our Design Solution
We began by removing the rounded cabinets and countertops and replacing them with a modern flat paneled cabinet and a large white counter. We brought the counter down the side of the cabinet for a unique modern element. Enlarging the window behind the sink allowed for more natural light to flood the space and warm up the new light gray walls. Making the counters one level instead of two opened up the space as well. All the appliances were updated and the fridge was hidden behind cabinet doors for a modern finish.

The former mantel was replaced with a simply constructed contemporary one. The bookshelves, cabinetry and wine racks provided needed storage for this second home. Artwork over the fireplace was commissioned for the space and its metallic accents sparkle under the picture light. Bi-fold doors close over the television when not in use.

This tiny home is located on a treelined street in the Kitsilano neighborhood of Vancouver. We helped our client create a living and dining space with a beach vibe in this small front room that comfortably accommodates their growing family of four. The starting point for the decor was the client's treasured antique chaise (positioned under the large window) and the scheme grew from there. We employed a few important space saving techniques in this room... One is building seating into a corner that doubles as storage, the other is tucking a footstool, which can double as an extra seat, under the custom wood coffee table. The TV is carefully concealed in the custom millwork above the fireplace. Finally, we personalized this space by designing a family gallery wall that combines family photos and shadow boxes of treasured keepsakes. Painted cabinets offer an advantage over stained or natural cabinets simply because home owners can match exact colors without having to worry about what color was underneath. If you're looking for quick kitchen remodel, consider painting your cabinets instead of replacing them. For even more dimension, paint them two different colors! A big cabinet trend right now is white uppers with dark lowers and a dark island. The light upper adds height to your kitchen while a dark lower grounds your kitchen and makes it more cozy.

This bathroom was designed for 2 teenage girls. The soft aqua color (BM Green Wave) is calming with a few pops of coral. The new cabinets from Under Budget Cabinets are a light gray color and provide much needed drawer storage that they did not have previously. Outlets were installed inside the cabinets to reduce clutter from hair appliances. The countertop is Silestone in Lyra and simple rectangular white under mount sinks were installed. All hardware and fixtures are brushed nickel. To save money, the tub was simply refinished and the tile surround stayed. It was upgraded with a heavy frameless sliding glass door. Linear floor tile replaced the carpet. Now it is a clean, fresh space.

Kitchen Sink Retrofits - Single Bowl or Double Bowl? That is the Question.
Hate your double bowl sink? Want a single bowl sink but think you have to replace the countertop? Many times you do not have to replace the countertop. Just simply fabricate a larger opening!
I have been in the Kitchen and Bath industry for 25 years and have always been a huge proponent of single bowl sinks. Unless you are filling one side with soapy water to wash and rinsing in the other side, the double bowl sink is a thing of the past.
Single bowl sinks allow you to soak a casserole dish in the sink rather than the countertop or one half at a time. Single bowl sinks make it much easier to clean a saucepan with a handle and cookie sheets without contorting your body! A single bowl sink allows everything that does down the drain to run through the disposer. With just one drain at the disposer, you open up more storage space under the sink, too!
Upgrade your faucet in the process! Try the new touchless options. Add a disposer air switch if your sink is in the island to make controlling the disposer easier. Don't forget the soap dispenser!
If you have a double equal double bowl sink that you would like to replace with a single bowl sink, give me a call and let’s see what we can do to make your dream come true!

The kitchen was renovated with custom made black walnut veneer cabinets, with caesarstone counters in 'Sea Foam', the bevelled edges were inspired by the hutch in the background that was designed and made by a local furniture designer Sholto. The popcorn ceiling was replaced and I designed a walnut edge valence with new and improved lighting. The new pendant light over the dining table is from Louis Poulson.
