Our clients were expecting their first child and needed to make room. They decided to convert their existing master bedroom into a nursery and create a peaceful retreat for themselves by building an addition off the back of their home. Our journey together began with detailed planning, working closely with the architect to design a master bedroom suite that would offer comfort and functionality. Every aspect, from the room's layout to the bathroom's design, was carefully considered.
Budgeting was the next crucial step. We worked closely with our expectant clients to select high-quality materials while keeping costs within reach, ensuring the project stayed on track financially.
Construction started by preparing the site and laying a solid foundation. The team then moved on to framing the walls and installing plenty of windows to create a private wooded bedroom retreat. We added skylights to the beautiful vaulted ceiling so the couple could lie in bed and view the night sky. Attention to detail was paramount throughout the process.
Finally, the finishing touches brought the vision to life. An en suite, curbless shower, custom interior doors, paint, and luxury vinyl plank flooring were installed precisely as planned.
The new master bedroom suite provided the perfect sanctuary for the growing family.

These Hanover, MA clients came to Renovisions as they wanted a local design-build company to rework and expand their small and outdated 1980’s colonial kitchen.
We collaborated and created an expanded 12’x15’ addition space to accommodate a newly designed kitchen which is now 21’x15’. Before we began with the construction process, proper structural engineering presented a challenge as the property was built on ledge. As expected, we determined that several concrete supports were necessary and needed to be built to support the expanded structure.
Our plan included both creative aesthetic and functional layout modifications to transform this ordinary kitchen into a spacious, well-lit, highly functional, stylish and welcoming space to cook, gather and entertain. The bump-out allowed for more functional cabinetry and a dining table which before was placed in a corner of the previous cramped kitchen. Now, there is a wide open space from the adjacent living room and a clear path to a 5’ French door opening to the pool deck. The homeowners also elected for us to extend a new roof over their existing deck creating a nice shaded space to entertain guests.
The island, which serves as the central gathering spot. is eye catching with contrasting dark cocoa colored cabinets and stunning natural looking Cambria quartz countertops. Large, easily accessible deep drawers provide much needed storage for pots, pans and lids as well as expansive countertop space for everyday prep and family get-togethers.
Overall, the clients were thrilled with their Renovision and cannot wait to throw a party to show off their stunning kitchen.
“There is not a single choice we aren’t happy with; it is so us! I love all of the storage and I have a feeling we are going to do a lot of entertaining this summer.”
“Dear Cathy and Ed, We are abundantly grateful for the entire Renovisions Team that have provided us with a beautiful kitchen and porch to enjoy. We will continue to make family memories for many years to come with this new addition. From the first time we met with you at the showroom, we were confident that high quality workmanship would go into our new construction. Mike, Brad, and Tom were very trustworthy and worked very hard every day they were on the job site. They were very flexible and always put the homeowners safety first. They even offered a bit of comic relief! Every night the site was cleaned meticulously, never leaving tools or sharp edges of any sort in the open space. We were also very pleased with the help offered when designing and choosing cabinets, tile and other finishes. Liz was always very helpful and patient to answer questions when we came by the showroom. We are extremely pleased with all the choices and on a daily basis we enjoy the warmth and amazing space it provides.
We recently hosted a retirement party for 70 people and it never felt crowed! We relax under the covered porch in the morning for coffee, the afternoon for lunch and to watch the grandkids in the pool. And of course in the evening while we read or catch up on emails. It is an amazing space! Thank you all again, for your hard work and passion for your craftsmanship. We will be in touch soon to set up a date for you all to drop by to see the finishing touches and to enjoy refreshments.”

Located on farmland in McLean, Virginia, the American Farmhouse balances the expected comforts of a new home with the bucolic beauty of an old farmhouse. The final site plan still has evidence showing parallel courses of the barn’s destiny. The house mass is broken and lowered so that the home can remain secondary to the monolithic barn structure. Earthy and elemental materials are selected for the home that reference the barn without directly mimicking it. Wooden members found inside the barn and from other barns bridge ceilings and are used in floors along with rustic slate adding to a sense of simplicity to the farmhouse design.
The age and patina of the barn is reflected in the house’s textural use of board and batten and field stone layered similar to stone foundations. The original development plan was to demolish the existing barn and construct three suburban homes. Part of an endangered breed, as one of the few remaining barns in the area, it was originally viewed as a challenge in a luxury home construction with several difficulties posed to the impending project: it would be expensive to renovate, vulnerable to demolition, and threatened by urban sprawl. However, instead of trying to alter or destroy the barn, the structure was fully embraced into the traditional architecture project as a centerpiece and was used as the inspiration for the home. The new house was sited parallel to the barn so that views to the barn gable were accessible.

A Family Retreat in Rural Ontario
The clients for this project live abroad, and sought a Canadian homestead — an anchor — for their large, young family. During summer and winter holidays, the parents wanted their children immersed in an Ontario landscape like the one in which they were raised.
To this end, they requested a “rustic, modern retreat” for their 100-acre property of forest, wetland, and meadows.
The family sought a generous home to allow young teenagers and extended family to be comfortable in a remote area for long stays. They sought a casual, comfortable space for the family and their dogs that would encourage activities like hiking and snowshoeing — no fancy entertaining.
Under One Roof
The most powerful aspect of the design is the long, tent-like roof, which follows the site’s topography. The roof and its ridge beam became the design’s primary focus, shaping the circulation path through the home’s interior, ultimately extending a view toward the forest.
A primary technical challenge was the roof’s structure, which despite its 60-metre length needed to seem light. The folds and angles of the steel roof are supported by the meandering ridge-beam.
The roof cantilevers and tapers at all edges. At the entry side of the house, the roof lifts like a bird’s wing off the garage volume beneath, sheltering an outdoor terrace.
Playing with Heavy and Light
Monolithic slate-clad volumes anchor the home and define the space between the curtains of glass. These opaque volumes echo the property’s rock outcrops. The garage, bathrooms, stairs, and pantry are grouped inside, and appear to hold up the dynamic roof.
Steel construction was chosen to avoid using the expected material of heavy timber for this forest getaway. Being cognizant of the clients’ desire for a warm interior, it was also important to avoid modernist tendencies for box-like forms.
Because the main floor is lifted above the ground and the topography falls away, the main floor is in the treetops while simultaneously filling the lower recreation area with light.
A Contemporary Approach to Warmth and Closeness
The continuous space of the home, with only bedrooms and bathrooms closed off, is a layout that underscores closeness.
The family areas and parents’ area are on the main level. The kids’ bedrooms are bundled into a single slate-clad volume, suspended like a cocoon above the main floor from a 40’ steel beam and accessed by a catwalk.
Sustainability
To avoid cutting trees, the home was placed on an existing cleared ridge overlooking a wildflower meadow.
The home is heated and cooled via a geothermal unit with summer solar gain reduced by significant roof overhangs. The glass walls are triple-pane, and high-efficiency fixtures and equipment for the well and septic system help reduce the home’s environmental impact.
Historically, the Canadian identity has been defined by our relationship to the land. Fulfilling the client’s mandate, the home honours that emotional connection through visual and material harmonization with its surroundings.

This custom made three dimensional feature wall made entirely with European oak in our shop has recessed LED lights, a matching credenza and is 12'x17'. The client—a highly successful luxury builder himself—had exceptionally high expectations. The team developed detailed CAD drawings and life-like renderings, ensuring every aspect of the design was clearly visualized. Over the course of three design meetings, the team refined the concept based on the client’s feedback until he was fully satisfied. During fabrication, the team replicated the approved design with precision, ensuring every detail was meticulously looked after. The team built the wall in sections, ensuring they could be transported efficiently and seamlessly assembled on-site. Before staining, the team fully assembled the wall to verify perfect alignment and eliminate any margin for error. When the final structure was put together on-site, the result was so seamless that it appeared to be carved from a single solid piece of wood.

Our inspiration for this home was an updated and refined approach to Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Prairie-style”; one that responds well to the harsh Central Texas heat. By DESIGN we achieved soft balanced and glare-free daylighting, comfortable temperatures via passive solar control measures, energy efficiency without reliance on maintenance-intensive Green “gizmos” and lower exterior maintenance.
The client’s desire for a healthy, comfortable and fun home to raise a young family and to accommodate extended visitor stays, while being environmentally responsible through “high performance” building attributes, was met. Harmonious response to the site’s micro-climate, excellent Indoor Air Quality, enhanced natural ventilation strategies, and an elegant bug-free semi-outdoor “living room” that connects one to the outdoors are a few examples of the architect’s approach to Green by Design that results in a home that exceeds the expectations of its owners.

Valerie used white subway tile in the shower with a hexagonal mosaic for the shower floor. The shower really establishes the vintage country style in the bathroom.
For anyone considering a similar project, Valerie recommends doing thorough research and sticking with your ideas. She found that working with a builder who was willing to work with her creativity and had creative ideas of their own was very beneficial. Valerie says that having a contractor on site every day was beneficial, since they kept the site clean and made sure the subcontractors did the same. In the end, Valerie says the project may cost more/ take longer than expected, but the best advice is to go with the flow and have fun with it!
