A client with a 1970s kitchen and eat-in area cut up by an unwieldy peninsula was desperate for it to reflect her love of all things English-and-French-Manor-Home. Working closely with my client, we removed the peninsula in favor of a lovely free-standing island that we painted a shade of French Blue. This is topped with Old World sink hardware (note the ceramic HOT and COLD medallions on the faucets!) and a gorgeous marble counter with a very special edge profile that evokes an antique French Boulangerie counter from the 1910s. Pendants with patinaed metal shades over the island further the charming Old World feel. Handmade white and blue tiles laid in a quilted diamond pattern cover the backsplash, and the remainder of the cabinetry at the perimeter is in a warm cream tone. The eat-in near the fireplace got a cozy treatment with custom seat cushions and window seat bench cushions in a classic blue-and-white Toile de Jouy matching the island stools. The nearby living room got a similar treatment. We removed dark wood paneling and dark carpeting in favor of a light sky blue wall and lighter wood flooring. Once upon a time, in a cozy family home, the living room was a sanctuary for the entire clan. The space was beautifully adorned with dark brown wood flooring that exuded warmth and elegance. Overhead, ceiling fans with wooden blades silently whirred, casting gentle breezes that kept the room comfortable year-round. On one side of the room, a glass cabinet proudly displayed an array of cherished items. The cabinet was a testament to the family's passion for collecting, filled with vintage toys, delicate porcelain figurines, and an assortment of Jon Cancellino's exquisite glass sculptures. The soft glow of ceiling lights highlighted these precious treasures, making them all the more captivating. In the center of the room, a white leather sofa invited relaxation. Plush pillows adorned its surface, inviting anyone to sink in and unwind. It was a favorite spot for the kids, who often nestled on the sofa, surrounded by their beloved toys. A few steps away, a sleek leather sofa in dark brown awaited the adults. It offered a perfect view of the TV, which was mounted on the white wall. The family often gathered here for movie nights, their laughter filling the room as they enjoyed their favorite films. Adjacent to the entertainment setup, a wall frame collage displayed memories of their adventures. The wall picture frame collage was a testament to the family's journey, featuring photos from vacations, milestones, and celebrations. Each image was encased in an elegant acrylic photo frame that preserved these moments for generations to come. Near the collage, a sink and tap combo were the practical touch the room needed. It was essential for the kids' quick snack breaks and for the adults to prepare their favorite beverages. The window blinds allowed just the right amount of natural light to filter through, creating a cozy ambiance. The room was a perfect blend of aesthetics and functionality, a true reflection of the family's unique personality and their shared memories in their lovely home.

The homeowners of this condo sought our assistance when downsizing from a large family home on Howe Sound to a small urban condo in Lower Lonsdale, North Vancouver. They asked us to incorporate many of their precious antiques and art pieces into the new design. Our challenges here were twofold; first, how to deal with the unconventional curved floor plan with vast South facing windows that provide a 180 degree view of downtown Vancouver, and second, how to successfully merge an eclectic collection of antique pieces into a modern setting. We began by updating most of their artwork with new matting and framing. We created a gallery effect by grouping like artwork together and displaying larger pieces on the sections of wall between the windows, lighting them with black wall sconces for a graphic effect. We re-upholstered their antique seating with more contemporary fabrics choices - a gray flannel on their Victorian fainting couch and a fun orange chenille animal print on their Louis style chairs. We selected black as an accent colour for many of the accessories as well as the dining room wall to give the space a sophisticated modern edge. The new pieces that we added, including the sofa, coffee table and dining light fixture are mid century inspired, bridging the gap between old and new. A perfectly designed floor plan is half the battle! In this gorgeous transitional style Great Falls home, we planned the space so that the beautiful artwork and stunning baby grand piano are displayed beautifully. We juxtaposed the client’s unique antique collection with newly sourced decor places to create a harmonious decor plan. We also added plenty of shelves in the beautiful study to store the client’s book collection and precious souvenirs. This home, located in a historic area of Dallas, was an opportunity to satisfy a client with very discerning taste. To suit his level of entertaining, he desired a sophisticated, old NY lounge style, powder room for guests. The bathroom was completely gutted except for the 48” tall wainscoting that remains an important element of the room’s ambiance. The stall shower in the room was removed and the commode relocated in its place, out of the direct line of vision. All fixtures are custom pieces, including a vanity with semi-precious stone counter. Exquisite custom Sherle Wagner fixtures were selected for the sink and faucet along with the vanity drawer pulls, towel ring, toilet paper holder and grab bar. A burled wood, antique-inspired accent table beautifully complements the custom upholstered chair. The outdoor area is decadent with lots of amenities. Travertine flooring, A/C and heated pool cabana boasts a custom onyx underlit table and folding glass doors, outdoor glass rock fireplace ensures the beautiful light stucco does not get dirty from wood burning. It’s the perfect spot for lounging! The lap pool is specially designed with a resistance pump for swimming in backyard with a limited pool space.

Coconut Grove is Southwest of Miami beach near coral gables and south of downtown. It’s a very lush and charming neighborhood. It’s one of the oldest neighborhoods and is protected historically. It hugs the shoreline of Biscayne Bay. The 10,000sft project was originally built 17 years ago and was purchased as a vacation home. Prior to the renovation the owners could not get past all the brown. He sails and they have a big extended family with 6 kids in between them. The clients wanted a comfortable and causal vibe where nothing is too precious. They wanted to be able to sit on anything in a bathing suit. KitchenLab interiors used lots of linen and indoor/outdoor fabrics to ensure durability. Much of the house is outside with a covered logia. The design doctor ordered the 1st prescription for the house- retooling but not gutting. The clients wanted to be living and functioning in the home by November 1st with permits the construction began in August. The KitchenLab Interiors (KLI) team began design in May so it was a tight timeline! KLI phased the project and did a partial renovation on all guest baths. They waited to do the master bath until May. The home includes 7 bathrooms + the master. All existing plumbing fixtures were Waterworks so KLI kept those along with some tile but brought in Tabarka tile. The designers wanted to bring in vintage hacienda Spanish with a small European influence- the opposite of Miami modern. One of the ways they were able to accomplish this was with terracotta flooring that has patina. KLI set out to create a boutique hotel where each bath is similar but different.
