This home in Las Campanas, built in the late 80’s, was a major remodel for Diva Interior Design and took more than two years to complete. The home was given a fresh, new look with new sandstone and custom wood flooring through-out the house. All of the baths were remodeled with new tile, stone and plumbing fixtures. The master bath was transformed into a luxury spa and the master closet was expanded to meet the needs of the new owners, with built cabinets for specific storage needs. Cabinets were refinished, walls were re-plastered and painted and all the lighting was redone. After completing the remodeling, Diva designed and furnished the entire house, working with the clients to design a very personalized aesthetic to blend their extensive collection of art and artifacts collected over a lifetime of travel and living in all parts of Europe and Russia. Custom pieces were designed using carving details from Nicolai Fetchin, the Russian artist and carver that lived in Taos and had a great impact on New Mexico style.

The gathering room has a vaulted ceiling but is not cavernous due to the dark elements created by the lumber and color selections. The wagon wheel light fixture is a focal point in the room, along with the Montanan stone floor to ceiling fireplace which mirrors the one outdoors. The millwork frames the room and provides the home with its lovely natural, rustic ambience which plays well with lighting and outdoor living spaces. The front façade is closed to the street, but the back explodes, with a wall of doors that open to the outdoor living and landscaping. Outdoor living space includes fabulous millwork, a beautiful stone fireplace which complements the interior fireplace, seating areas, a dining table and a full kitchen. The outdoor kitchen includes a grill, oven, storage, an icemaker and a refrigerator. The lower level is inviting with its millwork, it’s full bar and a home theatre. Again the timber frames the bar area and the rustic feel is defined by the millwork and the Montana stone. The ceiling is tongue in groove with decorative trusses that include peg details and corbels. Decorative outdoor lanterns add to the ambience. Log storage integrated into the main feature, the fireplace. Attention to detail include unusual millwork and lanterns.

This white kitchen was designed with a purpose. The house was built specifically for these customers and the entire house and kitchen was built around the antique hosier/baking cabinet that has traveled the world with this family. The purpose of this kitchen's white cabinets was to enable the kitchens focus on the back splash and hosier.

Recently my Mother lost the use of her legs. We completely remodeled her bathroom, removing an obsolete deep tub that was impossible to get in and out of for seniors. Her tub area was transformed into a wheelchair accessible shower and a small traditional tub was added where the tiny shower used to be. A reclaimed wood table became the vanity top with room for her wheelchair and we installed two semi recessed sinks for easy access. Hats and art from her travels to China still grace the walls, along with a shutter I found at Decor Direct, a crazy store here in Sarasota with Asian, ethnic goodies. It appears that we have a window in the bathroom. She loves the ability to still shower, even if in a shower chair. personal iphone photo

Our client had recently purchased a townhouse by Frick Park and knew she wanted to upgrade the builder-grade kitchen to better meet her needs. We decided to work with the existing layout of the kitchen as we optimized storage and increased functionality of the space. One request made by our client was for the addition of an island, which became a focal point of the kitchen. We sourced a specific slab of natural stone for the countertop, which featured green veining that paired beautifully with the green cabinetry of the island. The main kitchen area was updated with timeless cabinetry that featured a more muted paint color for a two-toned look, and recycled glass countertops requested specifically by our client. We also designed and built a multipurpose area for the wine refrigerator and microwave, and incorporated wall cabinets to display glassware and decor and increase storage. Custom lighting was also built into all cabinets and thoughtfully hidden for a seamless look. Another aspect of the project was the installation of an elevator near the kitchen that allows our client to effortlessly travel from the first to the second and third floors as she ages in place in the home. The result was a home thoughtfully designed and built to serve our client for years to come.

Klopf Architecture and Outer space Landscape Architects designed a new warm, modern, open, indoor-outdoor home in Los Altos, California. Inspired by mid-century modern homes but looking for something completely new and custom, the owners, a couple with two children, bought an older ranch style home with the intention of replacing it. Created on a grid, the house is designed to be at rest with differentiated spaces for activities; living, playing, cooking, dining and a piano space. The low-sloping gable roof over the great room brings a grand feeling to the space. The clerestory windows at the high sloping roof make the grand space light and airy. Upon entering the house, an open atrium entry in the middle of the house provides light and nature to the great room. The Heath tile wall at the back of the atrium blocks direct view of the rear yard from the entry door for privacy. The bedrooms, bathrooms, play room and the sitting room are under flat wing-like roofs that balance on either side of the low sloping gable roof of the main space. Large sliding glass panels and pocketing glass doors foster openness to the front and back yards. In the front there is a fenced-in play space connected to the play room, creating an indoor-outdoor play space that could change in use over the years. The play room can also be closed off from the great room with a large pocketing door. In the rear, everything opens up to a deck overlooking a pool where the family can come together outdoors. Wood siding travels from exterior to interior, accentuating the indoor-outdoor nature of the house. Where the exterior siding doesn’t come inside, a palette of white oak floors, white walls, walnut cabinetry, and dark window frames ties all the spaces together to create a uniform feeling and flow throughout the house. The custom cabinetry matches the minimal joinery of the rest of the house, a trim-less, minimal appearance. Wood siding was mitered in the corners, including where siding meets the interior drywall. Wall materials were held up off the floor with a minimal reveal. This tight detailing gives a sense of cleanliness to the house. The garage door of the house is completely flush and of the same material as the garage wall, de-emphasizing the garage door and making the street presentation of the house kinder to the neighborhood. The house is akin to a custom, modern-day Eichler home in many ways. Inspired by mid-century modern homes with today’s materials, approaches, standards, and technologies. The goals were to create an indoor-outdoor home that was energy-efficient, light and flexible for young children to grow. THE SETUP Imagine how thrilled Diana was when she was approached about designing a kitchen for a client who is an avid traveler and Francophile. ‘French-country’ is a very specific category of traditional design that combines French provincial elegance with rustic comforts. The look draws on soothing hues, antique accents and a wonderful fusion of polished and relic’d finishes. Her client wanted to feel like she was in the south of France every time she walked into her kitchen. She wanted real honed marble counters, vintage finishes and authentic heavy stone walls like you’d find in a 400-year old château in Les Baux-de-Provence. Diana’s mission: capture the client’s vision, design it and utilize Drury Design’s sourcing and building expertise to bring it to life. Design Objectives: Create the feel of an authentic vintage French-country kitchen Include natural materials that would have been used in an old French château Add a second oven Omit an unused desk area in favor of a large, tall pantry armoire THE REMODEL Design Challenges: Finding real stone for the walls, and the craftsmen to install it Accommodate for the thickness of the stones Replicating château beam architecture Replicating authentic French-country finishes Find a spot for a new steam oven Design Solutions: Source and sort true stone. Utilize veteran craftsmen to apply to the walls using old-world techniques Furr out interior window casings to adjust for the thicker stone walls Source true reclaimed beams Utilize veteran craftsmen for authentic finishes and distressing for the island, tall pantry armoire and stucco hood Modify the butler’s pantry base cabinet to accommodate the new steam oven THE RENEWED SPACE Before we started work on her new French-country kitchen, the homeowner told us the kitchen that came with the house was “not my kitchen.” “I felt like a stranger,” she told us during the photoshoot. “It wasn’t my color, it wasn’t my texture. It wasn’t my style… I didn’t have my stamp on it.” And now? “I love the fact that my family can come in here, wrap their arms around it and feel comfortable,” she said. “It’s like a big hug.”

The art of placement rooted in feng shui and the practical demands of nature both played intricate roles in this home’s design evolution. Project Style: Contemporary Size: 5 bedrooms; 5 bathrooms; 2 half baths; Living area - 6,200 sq. ft.; Total under roof - 8,200 sq. ft. Home Story: The inspiration for many of the design elements in this waterfront residence came from years of travel by the homeowner. Tucking away wide-ranging ideas - a hotel lobby's suspended fireplace, a restaurant's pivoting front door, a serene reflecting pool - that fused together seamlessly in a meticulous, well-thought-out manner. This home accommodates a large, very active family while serving as a backdrop for elegant art as well as nature's show-stopping displays. Challenges & Points of Interest: Potential for high waves and wind dictated specific aspects of this home's design. Careful planning avoided the need and expense of driving 30-foot deep piles. Suspending a 6' wide, 1,200-pound marble fireplace proved a gravity-defying engineering challenge. The tons of behind-the-scene steel and framing allow the fireplace effortlessly float as the home's centerpiece. The stunning, 900-pound sapele wood, custom front door opens with a finger touch thanks to its unique pivot design. Linear-patterned waterfall granite, ceiling-supplied water for tub bathing, Murphy bed, cantilevered 4-foot stair treads with stainless steel airline-cabled railing, 4-sided infinity-edge hot tub, living wall, zen garden and an intimate reflection pool with stepping stones are a few more of the design inspirations-turned reality in this highly-efficient Smart home.

This incredibly amazing closet is custom in every way imaginable. It was designed to meet the specific needs of our client. The cabinetry was slightly glazed and load with extensive detail. The millwork is completely custom. The rolling ladder moves around entire closet for upper storage including the shoe rack. Several pull out and slide out shelves. We also included slide out drawers for jewelry and a custom area inside the glass for hanging necklaces.
