This beautiful, streamlined design broke open the space towards the dining area, that was completely blocked off before by a traditional half- walled island, that did not allow a structured communication or work in the kitchen.
The new layout as a U-shape with a generous breakfast bar generates a vivid contrast in core ash, that repeats the houses wooden staircase and brings warmth and comfort to compliment the quarzite countertops.
The european appliances from Miele are all fully integrated and flush installed to go harmonically with the minimalistic cabinetry. A 30" refrigerator from Liebherr shows the perfect integration with matching door panels, and hides practical storage and food management very tastefully.

This pre-fab fireplace no longer is a source of cold air! With the Peterson Real Fyre direct vent gas insert it now produces lots of warmth. The Peterson insert comes with a remote which acts as a thermostat. Just set it and forget it. And for those very cold evenings you can turn the variable speed blower on.

First home, savvy art owners, decided to hire RBD to design their recently purchased two story, four bedroom, midcentury Diamond Heights home to merge their new parenthood and love for entertaining lifestyles. Hired two months prior to the arrival of their baby boy, RBD was successful in installing the nursery just in time. The home required little architectural spatial reconfiguration given the previous owner was an architect, allowing RBD to focus mainly on furniture, fixtures and accessories while updating only a few finishes. New paint grade paneling added a needed midcentury texture to the entry, while an existing site for sore eyes radiator, received a new walnut cover creating a built-in mid-century custom headboard for the guest room, perfect for large art and plant decoration. RBD successfully paired furniture and art selections to connect the existing material finishes by keeping fabrics neutral and complimentary to the existing finishes. The backyard, an SF rare oasis, showcases a hanging chair and custom outdoor floor cushions for easy lounging, while a stylish midcentury heated bench allows easy outdoor entertaining in the SF climate.

The entry area became an 'urban mudroom' with ample storage and a small clean workspace that can also serve as an additional sleeping area if needed. Glass block borrows natural light from the abutting corridor while maintaining privacy.

The design challenge in this kitchen was to combine sleek materials to make the space look modern – in fitting with the overall character of the home – and also to achieve a warm and inviting living space. Some special touches for the homeowners include the peninsula counter top that was dropped down to a more comfortable height for mixing and dough rolling. Above the peninsula a bean-shaped frosted glass snack counter sits on metal posts, creating an eating/snacking area. White porcelain tile with two chrome liners running around the perimeter create a clean backdrop for the focal point of the kitchen, a clear glass hood by Miele. A blue acrylic cabinetry finish gives the space a dash of color, while the cherry finish on the appliances side of the kitchen and on the sitting side of the peninsula makes the kitchen warm and inviting.
