Fusing modern production techniques with those of antiquity, Hallmark replicates authentic, reclaimed visuals in Solid with random widths and lengths.

This living room has a great layout for gathering with family and friends, watching TV, and sitting by the fireplace. The length of the room allows for long couches and additional leather chairs on both sides of the room.

The clients are a younger couple with no pets or children. They asked me to help them with the Great Room in their brand new townhouse. The space is open concept with 9-foot ceilings. When the clients moved in they had very little furniture and the walls were white and bare. The husband had his eye on a very large original work of art that he wanted to purchase and incorporate into the design. They love to cook and entertain. They asked for a tranquil, neutral space with some color accents, comfortable and flexible seating, a wall-mounted TV with some storage for media equipment, and a bar. The room has several large windows and two sets of sliding glass doors so there is a lot of natural light, which the clients didn’t want to block, but also a lack of privacy. The couple also requested lighting over the kitchen island and some counter stools.
I was challenged by the lack of architectural detail in the room and a tight budget. I decided to choose furniture and accessories with classic modern lines so they would last for a long time. To offset all of the straight lines and neutral colors of the main furniture pieces, and to add visual interest, I introduced organic elements, texture and movement. I did this with wallpaper on the fireplace wall and on the kitchen island (in the case of the island, I railroaded the paper for some interest), a textured rug, some greenery, rough wood on the pedestals next to the fireplace, window shades in natural woven wood, and accessories (particularly two ceramic vases) in interesting shapes. I used the husband’s art piece as the starting point for the color scheme and overall design. I added balance and harmony by adding a large art piece and large pedestals across the room from the large art piece and carrying the teal color across the room in the sofa cushion and ottoman fabrics, art above the mantel and a vase in the niche next to the fireplace. I chose large green glass pendant lights for the kitchen to add color and to match the scale of the room.
One major challenge was that the clients wanted ottomans so they could put their feet up while watching TV. I couldn’t accommodate ottomans and a coffee table, so I opted just to have one large ottoman and added casters so it could be moved closer to the sofa; however, the husband is very tall and the wife is very petite so they wanted separate ottomans to accommodate their different leg lengths. My solution was to design an ottoman that provides maximum flexibility: the two pieces can be joined and a tray added to make it a coffee table, or pulled apart and used either as party seating or individual ottomans for the homeowners. They were thrilled with the solution.

The living room is a panoply of custom designed furniture and art pieces. The room’s design concept celebrates the well-traveled modern lifestyle with a subtle Egyptian and South African flair. Much of the furniture, carpets and wall coverings were specifically sourced by the designer to emphasize small-batch design & production, and they utilize natural fabrics and fibers that do not off-gas or adversely affect a healthy home air-quality. A richly red accent wall draws the eye down the length of the space, and is comprised of faux alligator leather, cork veneer and golden grass cloth alcoves. Creamy velvet couches flank a striking custom carpet woven richly in natural wool fibers, which is then topped with a rich center table in faux-ostrich and ebony.

On this coastal site subject to high winds and flooding, govermental review and permitting authorities overlap and combine to create some pret-ty tough weather of their own. On the relatively small footprint available for construction, this house was stacked in functional layers: Entry and kids' spaces are on the ground level. The Master Suite is tucked under the eaves (pried-open to distant views) on the third floor, and the middle level is wide-open from outside wall to outside wall for entertaining and sweeping views.

Cheerful creamy Tuscan yellow walls, sisal rug, blues, turquoise, and acid green are balanced by bold black and white herringbone accent pieces. A large sofa and comfortable chairs provide ample seating, as do the clustered ottomans, which may be used as a cocktail table as shown, or additional seating.
Pretty blue and green floral drapery panels frame the beautiful full length plantation shutters on the French style windows. The mosaic glass tile fireplace surround is done in similar colors and sparkles in the light.

These fabulous high end, custom draperies were moved cross country from a previous home by their relocated executive family. This room required additional length with a contrast fabric and trim, creating 4 panels from the original 2 panels, and making numerous adjustments to the equally important drapery hardware - as well as sourcing additional matching finials. The blue fabric was added, as was the large bolster pillow to compliment the area rug, and to make the window treatments look as though these were originally designed for the current space!

This is a major update to a timeless home built in the 80's. We updated the kitchen by maximizing the length of the space and placing a coffee bar at the far side. We also made the longest island possible in order to make the kitchen feel large and for storage. In addition we added and update to the powder room and the reading nook on the second floor. We also updated the flooring to add a herringbone pattern in the hallway. Finally, as this family room was sunken, we levelled off the drop down to make for a better look and flow.

Amazingly cut detailed patterns on the curved surfaces, a beautiful harmony of age old wheel thrown shapes and modern cut patterns never seen before. Coral Rock design inspired from fish scales, to create interest and allow for the fact that the fact little area in the top needs to be left uncut to accommodate lighting I decided to decrease the sizes of the cuts as it goes up, painful but worthwhile. A designer minimalist lights for foyer, staircase, living space or dining bar.

This custom built 2-story French Country style home is a beautiful retreat in the South Tampa area. The exterior of the home was designed to strike a subtle balance of stucco and stone, brought together by a neutral color palette with contrasting rust-colored garage doors and shutters. To further emphasize the European influence on the design, unique elements like the curved roof above the main entry and the castle tower that houses the octagonal shaped master walk-in shower jutting out from the main structure. Additionally, the entire exterior form of the home is lined with authentic gas-lit sconces. The rear of the home features a putting green, pool deck, outdoor kitchen with retractable screen, and rain chains to speak to the country aesthetic of the home.
Inside, you are met with a two-story living room with full length retractable sliding glass doors that open to the outdoor kitchen and pool deck. A large salt aquarium built into the millwork panel system visually connects the media room and living room. The media room is highlighted by the large stone wall feature, and includes a full wet bar with a unique farmhouse style bar sink and custom rustic barn door in the French Country style. The country theme continues in the kitchen with another larger farmhouse sink, cabinet detailing, and concealed exhaust hood. This is complemented by painted coffered ceilings with multi-level detailed crown wood trim. The rustic subway tile backsplash is accented with subtle gray tile, turned at a 45 degree angle to create interest. Large candle-style fixtures connect the exterior sconces to the interior details. A concealed pantry is accessed through hidden panels that match the cabinetry. The home also features a large master suite with a raised plank wood ceiling feature, and additional spacious guest suites. Each bathroom in the home has its own character, while still communicating with the overall style of the home.

Great room - huge modern medium tone wood floor, brown floor and vaulted ceiling great room idea in Oklahoma City with white walls, a standard fireplace and a wood fireplace surround

The great room incorporates a living and dining and is open to the kitchen as well as a luxurious back patio. It is the perfect place for entertaining. In this space we used rich wood furniture, including a custom exotic wood scroll bench. Cream and white leather upholstery is predominant with hammered silver nail head trim as accents. An antiqued silver leafed custom bar cabinet in an alcove in the back of the space was custom made just for the client. A floor lamp with crystal accents highlights the gorgeous crystal lamp that rests on the sofa table. A large contemporary art piece on the wall brings in some color and interest. We refinished the walnut strip wood flooring in a darker color for more contrast and placed a custom pony hair area rug to the living room floor for added dimension and luxury. Lots of metal and glass furniture accents are seen throughout. A metallic drapery rod and custom horizontally striped drapery panels over motorized roman shades add a glamorous feel to the space. For an upscale look we used grass cloth and mica wall coverings on the dining room wall. An inlaid walnut sunburst table is surrounded by custom upholstered dining chairs and the focal point is the custom chandelier made with quartz crystal clusters in varied lengths over the dining room table. A player piano in the corner of the room adds to the entertainment ambiance of this new condo. Photography by Erika Bierman
